The meadows are full of pretty purple flowers.

I call this pretty fellow "Big Red". He seems to have a much more vivid red coloration and less gray than the other male cardinals.

#110 2022 Day 110: Sunrise looking through the grass

Sachem is a species of skipper butterfly with a lot of variation in colors. I think this is a sachem based on size and coloration. Some of the skippers are difficult for me to confidently identify. They like the wildflowers in our area. In May 2020, we had a good variety of blooms because there had been some rains in the previous month (April showers do bring May flowers). Wish we had some of that rain not that it is August and we have had blistering heat and no rain for weeks.

I suspect this one is immature because the markings don't seem fully developed. I was happy to see this one because I haven't seen many and usually they seem to be shy and stay hidden among the foliage. In Kinney County, Texas near Brackettville.

Wild garlic has pretty blooms. I have read that these plants are edible, but haven't tried them. They do have a smell like garlic or onion. The flowers are very small but create a nice show of color when the ground has not yet fully awakened from the winter dreariness.

So many beautiful flowers to take photos of. I still need to take my cameras out more often though.

I call this pretty fellow "Big Red". He seems to have a much more vivid red coloration and less gray than the other male cardinals. He and many other birds have been enjoying the pomegranates that I didn't pick this year. For some reason, I never found them at the proper ripeness on this tree. We had delicious ones on another tree. But I have enjoyed the bird activity.

Male painted buntings get all the attention, it seems, with the flashy coloration that makes them appear as if they crashed in to a paint store - red, blue, yellow, green. But the subtle green of the female serves as protection while on the nest. This little beauty of muted green shades visited my yard in June 2020. Here she seems to be saying "Yoo-hoo, I'm ready for my photo shoot"

Pretty in green and interesting in eating her greens. The bristle grass seeds were her favorite that day and I was happy to watch her enjoy them.

Not many flowers are blooming now - in between seasons and those that are look a bit worn making them imperfect and perfect. Hope you have a wonderful day!

A little meet and greet at the "ol' waterin' hole". I guess the northern cardinals are starting to choose mates for the upcoming breeding season. I thought it was nice to get a side-by-side comparison of the two genders of this species.

Managed to catch this hummingbird hovering next to the chili petin bush. I think it's probably a female black-chinned hummingbird.

Avec la chaleur d'Octobre s'ouvre la saison des Coccinelles :-)

I had hoped to see a lot of butterflies while out on the golf course in Cancun. I don't golf, but was lucky to get a chance to accompany my husband and brother-in-law as they golfed. Lots of nature, but not so many butterflies. I did find this pair fluttering around. According to an iNaturalist expert this is a subspecies of the white peacock we commonly see in our region of Texas. Anartia jatrophae ssp. luteipicta

Male hooded oriole that started visiting my yard regularly this spring. He approved of the selection of fruit and grape jelly I put out in various feeders. He posed for several shots for me, showing off his vivid colors.

More from my aunt's butterfly garden. A variety of butterflies an other pollinators were taking advantage of the zinnias and other blooms on a marvelous October day.

This little warbler really enjoyed the water sprinkler on a warm fall day. These yellow and gray birds are very small and migrate through in fall and spring. I usually only get a few days of seeing them so any photo I can get makes me happy.

Signs of spring capture with iPhone 7. Early spring showers leading to future spring flowers. The new leaves on this rose bush were beautifully reddish and the rain drops really added a sense of bedazzlement.

A small finch. From a distance they appear to be a plain little brown bird. A closer look reveals lots of streaks of brown, beige and white with some yellow and black thrown in. They are very friendly little birds - a couple have even landed on my husband and me when were outside working in the yard. They come to visit us in the autumn and leave in early spring. While they are around the air is filled with their high pitched tweets and buzzy songs.

It is pouring outside, but on the plus side, droplets are so cute.
