Six lovely maiko girls (apprentice geisha) with their hikizuri (trailing kimonos) tucked under their obi-jime (thin braid worn around the sash) so that they can walk through the grass, showing their lovely naga-juban (lingerie kimonos).
I have three other postcards from this same series dated 1937. However, this particular postcard pushes the date further back as it is from the photograph album of a British sailor from the autumn 1934 voyage of the HMS Kent.

Yosakoi (よさこい) is a unique style of dance that originated in Japan. Yosakoi started in the city of Kochi in 1954, as a modern rendition of Awa Odori, a traditional summer dance. As of 2005, yosakoi-style dancing has spread throughout much of Japan.

This was the view from Kamimachi Yosakoi Naruko Group’s truck (上町よさこい鳴子連) as they started their parade in Kochi in August last year.
It was 2015. So I can't recognise the location. It is at the front of train station somewhere near Naruko-Onsen. If anyone can tell the name and location of this picture, it will be highly appreciated.
The other team we rode with in Kochi was Kamimachi Yosakoi Naruko Group (上町よさこい鳴子連). This is them dancing in the street below us.
A group of Maiko Girls seated on a balcony, sometime around the 1930s. This group includes Naruko, Hisayuu and Fukiko.
Some things I ordered at the beginning of April finally arrived today! This is the very pretty Aoba Naruko nendoroid by Good Smile Company.
I love nendoroids and have a huge collection of them but I haven't bought one in a long while since all my attention has been on my Azone family! When I saw Naruko with her cheerful colours, gorgeous outfit, and cute expressions, I had to order her even though I haven't watched her anime yet! She is so charming and cute that I'll definitely have to check out her show ^_^
Waiting to go on stage at Japan Festival Mississauga last July—now called Japan Festival Canada.

Ei-sa-!
From the Yosakoi dance matsuri in Nakameguro. I know very little about the culture of this one, but the dance groups all had their own unique troupes, moves, framed around the naruko hand claps.
And... aside from the dancers, there were dudes like this MCing their routines. Because of course you want a Japanese themed luchador MCing your dance - of course you do.

Kokeshi is a traditional and handcraft doll from the North of Honshu (Tôhoku) the main island. They are handmade from various varieties of wood (cherry, dogwood...).
The most famous type of Kokeshi is the Naruko one (from Naruko onsen).
Today you can find more varieties in the whole island (known as creative Kokeshi).
On the picture, these giants Kokeshi welcome the visitors near Sakunami onsen, Miyagi Prefecture.
Maiko Naruko standing on the far right of the picture, Maiko Hisayuu sitting on the left of the picture with her back to the camera, and Maiko Fukiko standing in the centre holding a Uchiwa (Round fan).
This image dates to around 1934 and is part of a larger group of images of thirteen Maiko girls, all taken on the same day as part of the same photo-shoot. Unfortunately, this particular image has lost contrast over the years, probably due to the effects of the sepia toning chemicals.
