I met him in a park of Tsukiji. While I approached steadily, I was able to gradually feel him pretty.

The black-naped oriole (Oriolus chinensis) is a bird of the oriole family and is found in many parts of Asia. There are several distinctive populations within wide distribution range of the species and in the past the slender-billed oriole (Oriolus tenuirostris) was included as a subspecies. Unlike the golden oriole which only has a short and narrow eye-stripe, the black-naped oriole has the stripe broadening and joining at the back of the neck. Males and females are very similar although the wing lining of the female is more greenish. The bill is pink and is stouter than in the golden oriole.

This is (yet another!) photograph of elephant seals lolling about on the beach near Point Piedras Blancas just south of the Big Sur coastline. This location is well-known for providing easy access to viewing of these remarkable animals. They are found in many other locations along the coast now that their numbers have recovered, but in most places access is much more difficult. Here there is an "elephant seal nursery" mere feet for the Pacific Coast Highway, with short observation trails that give good views of the action and which protect both the seals and the human visitors.
I visited a bit earlier in this season when the pups were still rather small. This visit was almost an afterthought — after a morning of photographing landscapes and seascapes along the Big Sur coast I found myself at the southern end of this area with a few hours to kill in midday light, so I decided to drive a bit further and visit the seals. There were not nearly as many there at this later point in the season, but there were still plenty for me to make photographs. Images of the animals lying almost motionless on the sand not only evoke our own pleasant thoughts of doing the same thing (!) but they can also create a false impression that the lives of these creatures are lives of ease. In fact, the reality seems quite a bit different. In contrast to what seems like a life as a big chunk of sleeping blubber, these animals become quite sleek and graceful once in the water — where I understand that they have to be on the lookout in order to avoid become a snack for a great white shark!

I looked up and saw Liza using Dion as a pillow this afternoon. Both dogs were sleeping. My wife and I adopted Liza a couple years ago. Dion is a dog we are fostering for a local pet rescue organization.
This little girl napped through an entire boys' basketball game.

I don't generally like to shoot people sleeping but this was just too colorful to pass up. I don't generally go crazy with editing either but once again, it called for it. :)
First thing in the morning I had seen these same two girls (well, it HAD to be) near the Matterhorn. They were the only two people in what would have made an epic photo with the Matterhorn as a backdrop, with a wide open expanse of ground around them (a rare sight at Disneyland), but it was one of those "Alas!" moments that arise and disappear within a single second when your camera is packed neatly away inside its bag.
I missed a day with Picture Summer & I'm ok with that. Maybe that was my luxury. Not feeling a twinge of guilt on Day 11.
Today, I knew I had to create time for myself. I've been sleeping like shit lately & it's about to catch up. So I finished phone calls & hit the couch. Even with no A/C, I need a blanket to snooze. An hour and half later, I feel good.
