Cầu này có một nhịp giữa được một đầu gắn "bản lề" với một trụ cầu, và một đầu hở, được chồng ghép mí vào trụ cầu kế cận, đến khi cần thiết sẽ được máy tời kéo lên một đầu để cho tàu, thuyền qua lại. Sau đó được cải tiến cắt đôi nhịp giữa thành hai đoạn ghép nhau chồng mí, rồi hai đầu đều được gắn bản lề để có 2 máy tời kéo lên từ 2 bên, để tàu thuyền có ống khói và cột buồm cao có thể qua lại. Cầu quay này chưa bao giờ có nhịp nào quay ngang được (nguyên tắc của loại "cầu quay" là quay theo phương ngang), nhưng đã được nhân dân Mỹ Tho và cả miền Nam "bắt chết" vào hai tiếng "cầu Quay". Do thành phố Mỹ Tho lúc bấy giờ đã quá nổi tiếng về "văn hoá ẩm thực", với 2 sản phẩm nổi danh như cồn, là "Cơm rang cầu Quay" ở phía Tây - hướng đi từ Sài Gòn xuống - và "Cháo vịt cầu Quay" bên phía Đông - mé từ Gò Công lên.

Incredibly tight switchbacks hug the steep rock. The Stilfser Joch / Stelvio Pass. With its 2.757 m s.l.m height it is the highest paved pass of Italy and the second highest of the alps. It is dubbed the Queen of alpine passes and highest fairground of Europe.
Unglaublich enge Serpentinen schmiegen sich, abenteuerlich gefaltet, an den steilen Fels. Das Stilfser Joch, mit 2.757 m s.l.m. der höchste Straßenpass Italiens und der zweithöchste Straßenpass der Alpen. Auch "Die Königin der Passstraßen“ und „Höchster Rummelplatz Europas" genannt.
