Nice sky as we waited our turn to make the treck to the lightshow.

A proud, imperial British lion looking into the dawn of our technological age.

Needle felted with the addition of real feathers and glass eyes.

No idea what it was all about, but I kinda liked it. Look out for the hidden trombonist ...

A giant dark grey bird, similar to a road runner reaches out with long billowing feathers to handle a castle. The bird is flaked with gold and a text reads, “From many worlds come people, places and things on the Action Strata. What prevents collisions and catastrophes? Old paintings portray giant highway-grey birds whose feathery fingers touch lightly on the Strata’s locales, as if shuffling toy buildings. Negative energies are siphoned away, like rain scattered by winds. No one knows how they got the job but some say their feathers and toes are gilded because they once feasted on the golden snakes that hold the universe together.”

Jason, Evelyn & I came to the Southern Washington State Fair to see Weird Al Yankovic perform. We had a great time! The people were friendly and the food was great! And Weird Al wasn't too bad either. Actually he was amazing! Well worth the trip from Tucson. FYI some of the photos were taken with a 35 mm disposable. And incidentally because the camera battery died, I didn't take any photos of Al!

The bearing housing was designed to allow the bearing axles to float freely, (because the bearing axles holes were not precisely centered) while still being held generally in place.

It's made of a thin cardboard/plywood/cardboard sandwich.

It has space for five bearings, because four would have been far too simple.

Two bearing housings were made, one to fit behind each gear.

Not sure what this was about - big flags beyond the trees, all lit up. Nice though.

The side wall of the gearbox. The hole is for the dowel that will eventually hold on the front leg. The carved-out part is to allow clearance for the gears to turn.

This is one is finished. The stains that I used are Wallnut for the background, Cherry for the main body, Red Oak for the horns and the back, and gold paint for part of the eyes and teeth. This piece has been signed by the orginal artist Marsha Jordan and myself.

Don't fancy trying to take that crown off

It's called the Royal Oak and it was obviously a pub so I was a little confused about all the mythical beasties - then I realised it's now called "Royal Oak House" and it's the register office. Thatexplains all the demons then! (-:

There was something projected on to this wee caravan, but it wasn't very clear what it actually was.

The Kelpies are two 30-metre-high horse-head sculptures, standing next to a new extension to the Forth and Clyde Canal, and near River Carron, in The Helix Park.

This is the cardboard wing mock-up in the wing-retracted position.

The cardboard disc at the bottom (which will actually be the rear when the mechanism is upright) represents the wooden gear that will drive the wing.
