Quite surprised to note this is the first MX-6 I've photographed. I guess they are pretty rare now.

Reading, Berkshire registered.

Sorry predicament for a once proud car.

Spotted out and about.

The first generation Ford Probe was introduced in 1989, as a sports compact, and was fully based on the MazdaG-platform, as used by the Mazda MX-6. using unique sheet metal and interior. The instrument cluster and pop-up headlight mechanisms are borrowed from the FC RX-7.

The second generation introuced in 1993 saw a complete new design. As before, the Probe was to share its under-structure with Mazda's MX-6 and 626. Mazda engineered the engine, transmission, and chassis, while Ford engineered the body and interior. Technically, the second generation Probe is 60% Mazda and 40% Ford. The new car was both longer (2 inches) and wider (4 inches) than the earlier generation model, though it weighed in 125lbs lighter. It went on sale in Europe in Spring 1994. Ford had been hoping to sell around 20,000 Probes each year in Britain as the car market recovered from the effects of the recession from 1992, but in its three years it only achieved a grand total of around 15,000 sales

By February 2016, just 718 examples of the Probe were still in use in Britain

Japanese market brochure. We had these in North America, but they didn't sell nearly as well as the Ford Probe, made in the same factory, Flat Rock, Michigan. Made from 1991-97.

Been scanning a few old photos this eve. Some are a little poor on the quality side, but interesting nonetheless. I'll try to edit & upload some of the better ones over the next few days.

First off we have a Micra Colette, owned by one of my Mother's friends in the early 90's. I think she had this for a while before changing to a Mazda MX6 in the mid 90's. It replaced a rather nice white Cavalier Mk2 estate, which she found too heavy to drive.

DVLA suggests it was exported in 1998. Wonder if it's still going...
