The scarlet macaw (Ara macao) is a large, red, yellow and blue South American parrot, a member of a large group of Neotropical parrots called macaws. It is native to humid evergreen forests of tropical South America.
Range extends from extreme south-eastern Mexico to Amazonian Peru, Colombia, Bolivia, Venezuela and Brazil in lowlands.
It has suffered from local extinction through habitat destruction and capture for the parrot trade, but locally it remains fairly common. Formerly it ranged north to southern Tamaulipas. It can still be found on the island of Coiba. It is the national bird of Honduras.

El guacamayo macao o guacamaya macao en algunos paÃses (Ara macao) es una especie de ave perteneciente a la familia de los psitácidos. Además, es una de las nueve especies existentes del género Ara, del cual es una de las de mayor tamaño, pues llega a alcanzar 90 cm de longitud y 1 kg de peso. Se distingue por su colorido plumaje, que es principalmente rojo escarlata, complementado con algunas plumas azules y amarillas en las alas y la cola. Habita a lo largo de un amplio rango de distribución que abarca desde el sureste de México hasta las selvas pedemontanas del departamento de Cochabamba en el centro de Bolivia, en bosques húmedos tropicales cercanos a grandes corrientes de agua, a altitudes que van desde el nivel del mar hasta los 1000 msnm.
I appreciate this is going to have a very niche appeal, but to those of you who are wondering how the MX-1 compares in size to the Pentax Q, here are some shots of them side by side.
The weird thing is that the MX-1 is actually even bigger than it appears here. And I like it for it's additional bulk, feels solid in the hand.
Not had a chance to compare pic quality, but clearly the MX-1 will win hands down.
I wonder what that plate was on originally. Looks ok on top this one, but plenty of MOT warnings about rust underneath unfortunately.

Le "Maïtena" était un homardier-thonier mauritanien construit au chantier Tertu au Fret en 1964 pour Louis Salaün. Immatriculée à Douarnenez en 1965 (Dz 4107), puis à Morlaix en 1973 (Mx 195448). En 1976, il est racheté par Jean-Pierre Salaün pour la pêche au crabe. Depuis 2001, il est échoué à Camaret devant la chapelle ND à Rocamadour.
The "Maïtena" was a Mauritanian lobster-tuna boat built at the Tertu au Fret shipyard in 1964 for Louis Salaün. Registered in Douarnenez in 1965 (Dz 4107), then in Morlaix in 1973 (Mx 195448).
In 1976 it was bought by Jean-Pierre Salaün for crab fishing .
Since 2001 , it has been stranded in Camaret in front of the ND chapel in Rocamadour.
