Ideum collaborated with the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) to create a new application to orient visitors to their facilities. Up to 4 users access their own personal viewing windows that change size to make the best use of screen space. Windows, images, and videos resize dynamically throughout the interaction to optimize the experience for the current number of users.

The application will be displayed on an Ideum Platform 55 multitouch table with a 4K UHD display and projected capacitive touch.

In the application, visitors will learn about SLAC’s work onsite and around the world. The important research conducted at SLAC facilities is highlighted in stories, images, and videos.

Microchip's PIC32 GUI Development Board With Projected Capacitive Touch (part # DM320015) makes it easy for designers to add the combination of multitouch projected-capacitive interfaces, and high-quality 16-bit color graphics to WQVGA displays in any application. Additionally, with its industry-leading performance, Microchip’s 32-bit PIC32 microcontroller can directly drive LCDs, eliminating the cost and complexity of an external graphics controller. Microchip’s onboard MTCH6301 is a turnkey mTouch™ projected-capacitive touch controller for popular multitouch and gesture interfaces—eliminating the learning curve and time of creating a design from scratch. In combination with Microchip’s free graphics and multitouch software, this board enables rich, modern user interfaces for cost-sensitive designs in a broad range of markets, such as consumer, industrial and medical. The Collection Viewer allows for omni-directional interaction. A small group of people can interact simultaneously, approaching the table from any direction. Media objects appear on in different places and orientations on the table randomly and will disappear if they are not interacted with. The exhibit is ever changing and never appears the same way twice, making the exhibit new and engaging on each visit.

CollectionViewer is a multitouch-enabled image and video application that includes collection information such as description, titles, copyright, and author information.

This application was built with the GestureWorks multitouch Flash Framework. The application was developed by Ideum. To learn more about this exhibit please visit our portfolio.

The multitouch software is a Google Map Mashup with Flickr photos. The application supports KML layers showing fire prone areas, earthquake faults, water supplies and more. The application was built using the GestureWorks multitouch framework for Adobe Flash.

This touch table is part of the LA Zone exhibition at the California Science Center.

GestureKey is a Windows-based utility that uses the GestureWorks core processing engine. This stand-alone utility maps key commands and mouse events to gestures. The utility can make an application (games, utilities, productivity apps) multitouch aware in minutes. This is useful for consumers looking to make their apps touch aware on Windows tablets, Ultrabooks, or all-in-ones. It is also useful for software developers to rapidly see how multitouch might work with their applications. There is more information at: www.gestureworks.com

Visitors at Adventure Science Center interact with the Electromagnetic Spectrum Exhibit.

A view of the 100" multitouch, multiuser exhibit table developed by Ideum for Adventure Science Center in Nashville, Tennessee. The table has two computers and projects and a contiguous surface that allows several people to interact simultaneously with the same program.

With a 100" surface and an 86" viewable area is it among one of the largest contiguous multitouch tables ever developed. The screen has a 16 x 5 ratio aspect and a 2304 x 800 pixel, high-resolution screen.

The exhibit explores the electromagnetic spectrum. The extended aspect ratio mimics the spectrum itself, from radio waves to gamma rays. Visitors can then move images across the table and see how they are imaged in each waveform.

The exhibit displays a variety of celestial and terrestrial images in a variety of wavelengths. For example, NASA images of the sun can be seen in all wavelengths. Common and iconic objects were photographed in a variety of wavelengths. For example, a birthday cake with lit candles, a toy robot, an alarm clock, and even a hand holding an iPhone are seen in visible, infrared, ultraviolet, and x-ray.

The haptic tempered glass and aluminum and steel construction make the table incredibly durable. Blue LED lighting makes the table stand out. It will be part of the Space Chase Gallery at the Adventure Science Center. This exhibit will be open to the public on November 7th. The table is based on Ideum's commercially available MT-50 multitouch table.

The items on display at George Washington's Mount Vernon include newspapers and books that he personally accumulated over the years.

The newly redesigned Pico multitouch coffee table was launched in 2018 in response to client requests for a more functional and accessible model for public spaces. Now, Ideum, working with partner AOPEN, has built a Pico with a fully integrated Chromebox computer system. The goal was to lend the popular Pico even greater flexibility for clients in the US and around the world. Ideum is now evaluating the possibility of offering this configuration as a standard integrated computer option.

For the exhibit, we developed custom software which allows visitors to view both terrestrial and celestial objects across different wavelengths. The exhibit runs on an Ideum 100” dual 4K UHD Pano multitouch table. All of the content was developed specifically for the application. Ideum conducted a multispectral photo shoot for terrestrial objects and helped collect the latest celestial images. We worked with Science World in Vancouver to find appropriate images for the exhibit and collaborated on the content and text descriptions.

The 8K EM spectrum imaging exhibit will debut in the Eureka! Gallery at Science World at Telus World of Science in Vancouver in late February 2015. You can learn more about the Pano 100” multitouch table or the EM Spectrum exhibit on the Ideum website.

Ideum has developed several variations of a gesture-based audio accessibility layer for our multitouch table and touch wall exhibits. All modes allow visitors to use taps and gestures to activate narration and explore content and to personalize narration speed and volume. In Dual-User Mode, one user controls the accessibility layer (at left), while another visitor explores separate content in standard mode.

The Presenter 55 mounted on an optional mobile, motorized stand and connected to a powerful small form factor workstation. You can learn more about the Presenter 55 multitouch wall at: ideum.com/touch-walls/presenter-55/
