An autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is a tingling sensation that usually begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine. A pleasant form of paresthesia, it has been compared with auditory-tactile synesthesia and may overlap with frisson. Awhile ago, I bought a Leatherman Wave to replace the Leatherman PST II, one of the items I lost in a break-in of my car. The Wave is a much better tool. The 2 knife blades are vastly better than the single blade of the PST II, the plier handles are more comfortable, and the changeable bits seems like a nice idea. For me, the PST II was borderline to carry in a pocket, but the Wave crosses the line and is much too bulky and heavy, so a sheath is the way for me. Unfortunately, mine came with a crappy nylon/velcro sheath that was pretty much worn out in just a few weeks. On the Leatherman web site, among the accessories they sell are sheaths, and they are pretty cheap. I bought a full leather one and a combo nylon/leather, and I'm happiest with the nylon/leather version (though I think it could be better).

A mini survival kit is a small survival kit which consists of the most essential outdoor survival tools and supplies which are the hardest to improvise or replace. A mini survival kit is intended to be carried along all the time and is usually designed to complement other survival tools carried along in a larger, separate bag. These kits may be referred to as BOATs, or Bug-Out Altoids Tins.[1]

Many items included in such a kit are difficult if not impossible to manufacture or obtain in real world survival situations. A mini survival kit is intended to remain on ones person always, be appropriate to all environments, and be a comprehensive kit without being too large. Other personal gear will primarily offer additional serviceability and ease of use, but the mini survival kit should provide for the basic needs of a survival situation, followed by self rescue, assistance, or a return to normalcy in optimum situations.

Two philosophies surround the preparation of mini survival kits. Some people like to carry a few, relatively large items such as a knife, box of matches, whistle, energy food, bottle of water, etc. Others prefer a collection of smaller but more comprehensive items such as rubber bands, paper clips, fishing equipment, lashing material, razor blades, etc. The decision of which technique to subscribe to depends on one's environment, physical condition, survival knowledge, and other factors.

The contents of this one are:

1 x Tobacco tin can be used as a mess tin or the lid can be used for signalling.

1 x Credit card multitool

2 x Pieces of water resistant paper for note taking or additional tinder.

4 x Waterproof plasters of varying sizes.

4 x Butterfly sutures to close wounds, 2 small and 2 large.

1 x Sterile PremierPore adhesive dressing. (Latex Free)

2 x PDI Alcohol prep pad wipes.

4 x Water Purification tablets.

1 x Cotton ball easily ignitable tinder

1 x Bundle of Jute twine for tinder

1 x 2 Treated pieces of Amadou.

1 x 10 pieces of char cloth - used like you would the amadou, ignites incredibly easily

1 x Ballpoint pen, a lot of survival kits will supply pencils, but I find a pen much more functional! Especially for every day out door use.

1 x Razor Blade, A sharp edge for cutting.

1 x Candle, relighting for use in windy conditions

1 x Zip Lock bag. Waterproofing or water carrying.

1 x 1.5 meters of brass wire for rabbit snares

1 x Whistle in military green.

1 x Fishing Kit including, 3 hooks of various sizes, 3 lures, 2 weights and 25 ft of line.

1 x Match Kit with striker, 5 waterproof matches.

1 x Sewing Kit includes 3 different colour threads, 3 safety pins, 2 buttons.

1 x Button Compass

1 x ferro flint rod and striker, create that spark to get your fire going

1 x Length of PVC tape, endlessly useful! Great for repairing kit,

1 x Length of Transpore medical tape, can be used for extra sutures or taping gauze or fabric to wounds to stem bleeding.

1 x Wire Saw.

1 x Heat sealable aluminium bag.

The celebrated Alox scales have reached a near cult status, thanks to their unique surface which is pleasing to both hand and eye. The appeal of Alox is in its merging of aesthetics with functionality – its attractive embossed surface make the knife both lightweight and easy to grip, and the hardened oxide layer helps to protect against damage and corrosion.

After being punched from aluminum and embossed, Alox scales go through a process called Eloxal which uses anodic oxidation to create a protective layer. It is this final layer which allows for the coloring of the scales.

Alox has a strong significance in the history of Victorinox. First introduced for the Pioneer knife in 1957, Alox was a key feature of the Soldier’s Knife which was redesigned in 1961 and used until 2008. Today, we issue a Classic pocketknife with Alox scales in a different color every year. These limited edition knives are highly sought-after by design aficionados and collectors, showing the true timeless appeal of this iconic material.

From Google Bard…

Victorinox makes Alox knives using a process called **deep drawing**. Deep drawing is a metal forming process that uses a punch and die to create a three-dimensional shape from a flat sheet of metal.

The first step in making an Alox knife is to cut a sheet of aluminum to the desired size. The sheet is then placed in a deep drawing die, which has the shape of the knife's handle. The punch is then pressed into the sheet, forcing it to conform to the shape of the die.

Once the handle is formed, the blade is inserted into the handle. The blade is held in place by a rivet, which is pressed into the handle. The rivet is then peened, which is a process of hammering it to expand it and lock it in place.

The final step is to anodize the knife. Anodizing is a process that creates a protective layer on the surface of the metal. This layer helps to protect the knife from corrosion and wear.

Here are the steps in more detail:

1. **Cutting the sheet metal:** The first step is to cut a sheet of aluminum to the desired size. The sheet is typically 0.8mm thick.

2. **Deep drawing the handle:** The next step is to deep draw the handle. This is done by placing the sheet metal in a deep drawing die and then pressing it into the shape of the die with a punch.

3. **Inserting the blade:** Once the handle is formed, the blade is inserted into the handle. The blade is held in place by a rivet, which is pressed into the handle.

4. **Peening the rivet:** The rivet is then peened, which is a process of hammering it to expand it and lock it in place.

5. **Anodizing the knife:** The final step is to anodize the knife. Anodizing is a process that creates a protective layer on the surface of the metal. This layer helps to protect the knife from corrosion and wear.

The Alox knife is a popular choice for EDC knives because it is durable, lightweight, and corrosion-resistant. The deep drawing process used to make Alox knives ensures that they are strong and reliable. The anodizing process also helps to protect the knives from the elements.

Gerber Legendary Blades is a maker of consumer knives and multitools headquartered in Portland, Oregon. Currently Gerber is a sub-division of Fiskars Brands Inc, owned by the Fiskars company of Finland. Gerber was established in 1939, and has a reputation for making quality knives of innovative design, designed by famous knifemakers.

Designers who have designed knives for Gerber include: Bob Loveless, Paul Poehlmann, Blackie Collins, William Harsey Jr., Fred Carter, Rick Hinderer, and Ernest Emerson. Former Gerber employees who started their own successful knife companies include Al Mar and Pete Kershaw. Gerber also sells a family of folding knives based on designs of Rex Applegate, and authorized by Applegate.

Examples of innovative designs by Gerber are the "bolt action" locking system designed by Blackie Collins, the unique front opening action of the Gerber multitools, and the push button locking Paul knives by Paul Poehlmann. Also unusual are Gerber's niche market products, such as the Clip-it diving knives.

Gerber has also led the market in using new technologies, and materials normally found in custom made or premium brand knives, such light but tough injection molded Hytrel handles, Kraton rubber on handles for enhanced grip, ATS 34 and AUS 8 high carbon stainless steels (widely considered far better than the standard 440 series more commonly used), and titanium nitride coatings. Additional products in the Gerber line include tools, lights, accessories, packs, and hydration products.

ITW Nexus TAC Link with a 3 pass gaucho knot, tied with 2mm cord around the gate, and a hank of paracord hanging from the biner.

The knot is tied and tightend up on the thinner section of the carabiner's gate, so it's gonna stay put where it is. But, you could make the knot so that it fits around the hinge or latch section of the carabiner, with the knot just tight enough to friction fit in place, you could then use the as a slider lock. A strategic application of krazy glue secures the trimmed/tucked ends of the knot.
