Bad Wimpfen, Night of the Arts. Bad Wimpfen, a medieval town overlooking river Neckar hosted a Night of the Arts ("Nacht der Künste") on May 6, 2017. The whole town was nicely decorated - candles, illuminations and chairs in front of almost every house, shops (mostly local handicrafts and the like) were open all night. And a variety of music plus eating and drinking on offer all over the place. Bit of a pity with the weather - quite stormy and thus also a bit chilly and torrential rains forecast for later in the night but that did not stop the crowds from having a lot of fun.
Je rêve d'une fenêtre en vitrail filtrant en douceur la lumière et jetant sur les pierres des reflets fugitifs....
Sympa sur fond noir, nice on black !
Experimental multiple exposure, with trying out a wide aperture, & using a green Hoya Pop Colour filter on the other shot.

The Pick-It-Yourself crowds are gone from Snowline Orchards. The last of the Fall color paints the barn and cider mill brilliantly. It is quiet again up in Oak Glen, CA
Trying out multiple exposures to pass the time at the motel as I was tired & it was very hot. Taken in 2012.

Multiple levels (parallel planes; rock surface curves down to right) of slickensided fault surfaces in an outcrop of Marron Fm. andesitic volcanic rock (in south-central British Columbia), with one of my fingers for scale. Above my finger, the lighter coloured material is a mineral vein (fluid flowed along a fault plane and mineral precipitated from solution) with a patchy distribution now because it is partly eroded away.
The slickenlines present have two different groove lineation directions, diagonal down to the left and down to the right in both the purplish-brown host rock and the light brown vein material. They record two different steep (sub-vertical) directions of fault motion at this site back in the Eocene (ca. 50 million years ago), a time of post-orogenic normal faulting in this part of western Canada.

The formations near the intersection of Zion Road and Utah Hwy 9 (Mt. Carmel Road) offer a choice. To the right is the high country and to the left is the low canyon. Either way you'll see beauty.
The sun is going down when this shot was taken and only the west facing formations remain bright. Down in the canyon it is dark, but a great dinner is waiting at the lodge.
Experimental multiple exposure with a pregnant model I worked with earlier this year. She was 20 weeks, so her bump wasn't too visible. She was a delight to work with & wanted to work with her again, but unfortunately, schedules didn't work out. Taken at Victoria Park in Sydney, near the University.
Taken with Blue & Green Hoya Pop Colour Filters.

I set up my multiple flashes to take Hummingbird shots in my backyard. Well, this time I was almost too close. I almost didn't get the entire bird in the frame.

Wet track, fogged windshield, walls of Armco and an expensive vintage racer. I don't think we as spectators can appreciate the challenges a driver has to deal with, and this is vintage racing! I could be wrong but, I don't think there is money to be made by winning, only expense. In a sense this is a return to motorsports roots when it was done for the sport,
Logo of a coffee bar. Does it reference Pablo Ferro’s titles for Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove, or the digital typeface that was inspired by them?
A high res closeup to a very active region on the sun.
In fact this image contains several such regions:
AR3927, 3928, 3932 & 3933. Some with multiple spots, some with huge filaments generated by powerful magnetic fields.
The entire area is brimming with activity.
A mosaic of 9 frames, Dec 24 2024, H-Alpha.
The image was processed and colored darkly to boost up the surface activity.

90 040 with 90 018 in multiple behind sit in Eden Valley Loop for a booked pathing stop on the West Coast Mainline. Despite being a 75mph class 4 freight these days the line is increasing filling up with passenger trains so more freights get relegated to overnight. This pair are working 4M25 06.06 Mossend Euro Terminal to Daventry and will soon have the standing start up the 1/125 gradient which is noticeable as the train recedes into the distance on the curve. The loop here being a little over a mile into this seven mile continuous rising gradient before it eases at Shap village before the final ascent to Shap Summit at 916ft.
Time and tide will do for the print of the human. (Or something).
Hand-held & filter free on the sands at Nolton Haven. Five frame multiple exposure. I scurried in to imprint the sand with my sandals & scurried out again, with a little giggle, to grab the shots as the tide swept in.
Always refreshing at Pelcomb Portraits.

the lightning bolt created by a finger on a plasma ball.
A plasma globe or plasma lamp (also called plasma ball, dome, sphere, tube or orb, depending on shape) is (usually) a clear glass sphere filled with a mixture of various noble gases with a high-voltage electrode in the center of the sphere.
Plasma filaments extend from the inner electrode to the outer glass insulator, giving the appearance of multiple constant beams of colored light (see corona discharge and electric glow discharge).
The plasma lamp was invented by Nikola Tesla, during his experimentation with high-frequency currents in an evacuated glass tube for the purpose of studying high voltage phenomena. Tesla called his invention an "inert gas discharge tube". The modern plasma lamp design was subsequently developed by Bill Parker, a student at MIT.
