HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. —
Fifteen cadets from Hofstra University's Army ROTC program and its partner schools were commissioned as second lieutenants during the Spring Commissioning Ceremony, May 22, at Hofstra University on Long Island.
Three officers were commissioned into the New York Army National Guard:
2nd Lt. Basira Haruna, Military Intelligence, Farmingdale State College; 2nd Lt. Danah Singh, Aviation, Stony Brook University; and 2nd Lt. Ray Tobaru, Logistics (EOD), Stony Brook University.
The ceremony marked the culmination of years of academic study, military training, and leadership development across Long Island's largest multi-school ROTC partnership. Brig. Gen. Vivek Kshetrapal, Deputy Commanding General (Operations), 81st Readiness Division, delivered the keynote address.
During the ceremony, the new officers took the oath of office, had their gold bars pinned, and received their commissioning certificates. Each officer then rendered their first salute to an enlisted Soldier or noncommissioned officer — a gesture honoring the mentorship, discipline, and professionalism of the enlisted corps. The new officers also presented a silver dollar to the NCO who rendered the salute, a tradition dating to 1792 as a token of gratitude to those who shaped their development.

Back at work and a trip to Cardiff. This carpark opposite the station was being demolished and I liked the contrast of the geometric supports with the strands of metal twisting out of the concrete
For this project I have been using the cheaper model railway 'grass' medium. The problem with this is that is is one uniform colour and so not very natural or realistic looking 'out of the bag'. So I have been adding some multi-tones by means of some oil paints and conte chalks. Hopefully the end effect - while subtle - is more realistic looking.

Designed by Malcolm Fraser Architects, built on the site of the Netherbow Arts Centre (built 1970). The site had been the location of the Netherbow Port, one of the last remains was the James VI tablet.
The Netherbow Port possibly dates back to the mid-twelfth century. It has been suggested that the earliest Netherbow Port might have stood in the neighbourhood of 'John Knox's House', where there is a 'suggestive break in the house fronts', but a plan of the city in 1544 clearly shows the port in line with St Mary's Wynd. The port, rebuilt in 1571, was said to have been in a semi-ruinous condition in 1762 and was demolished in 1764. Its position is marked in the roadway.

Seb Lee-Delisle had a 10 minute speech at the Flash on the beach JAM session about how to connect several mobile devices to one multi-user gaming experience through a web socket. So we participated in the game, where the Pop Tart Cat was running around on the screens of all the connected devices. The person to catch it fastest ( by tapping the screen ) won. I missed the kitty and Markus caught it.

Tree-mendous kudos to all the folks who showed up to make this planting along a much beloved section of the Fanno Creek multi-use path possible! The impact y'all made on this space is amazing: 600 native plants and wildflowers, as well as spreading 6 yards of mulch. Not a bad way to do some good work together -- hip hip!!
