Spent a nice, cool morning on Mt. Lemmon. Marshall Gulch area was quite lively with American Redstarts and Red-faced Warblers. The Redstarts were most cooperative. The RFWA not so much---flitting about with obstructing branches and/or shady spots. Just allowed me one, not-great shot, but I enjoyed it all the same.

Mt. Lemmon Ski area after a heavy winter storm dropped several feet of snow.

Mt. Lemmon climb. 6000 feet.

Newly built homes have risen from the ashes of the Aspen Fire, which in June of 2003 swept through more than 84 thousand acres of the Santa Catalina Mountains, destroying 340 homes and business in this small mountaintop community.

Evidence of the destruction can be seen on the hilltop in back, with new growth only now beginning to take hold--9 years after the devistating fire.

And he's off with much success. Notice the bike helmet on his head for protection. Very fun!

A 25 mile bike ride to 8000 feet in the Santa Catalina Mountains near Tucson.

On the weekend of August 9th Tania's nephew and his wife visited us, so on Saturday we drove them up Mount Lemmon for a short hike and picnic. We followed the Meadow Trail as far as Lemmon Park and the overview.

Thank you, Everyone, for your patience with my life.

My younger daughter has just begun her senior year.... I remember this day, 13 years ago, taking her to her first day of kindergarten! How has time passed so quickly? And now, she's about to spread her wings and fly away from me (can you tell that we're about to begin applying to colleges?)

My older daughter will leave in a week to begin her third year of college! I remember when she started kindergarten so long ago.

It'll be some time before I can return to flickr-ing - and i'm dearly looking forward to the time when i can.

hugs to you all!

On July 29 2015 I joined Ned and the gang on one of the summer Mount Lemmon hikes. We hiked the loop formed by the Mt. Lemmon Trail and the Meadow Trail (formerly the Power Line Road and the Lemmon Park Trail) at the top of the mountain.

Two aspen are the first trees to have sprouted since the fire. As you can see in the other photos not a single tree is left standing.

Nest-building time for the Yellow-eyed Juncos. At Rose Canyon Lake, Mt. Lemmon, there were multiple Yellow-eyed Juncos, all sporting the mutli-colored ankle bracelets. I guess this species is being monitored?

Mt.Lemmon (or is it Middle Earth?)

I found this beetle near the top of Mt Lemmon. I really have no knowledge or expertise when it comes to beetles but my best guess from multiple internet searches is Arizona Scarab Beetle. Anyone out there know what king of beetle this is?
