A team of independent monitors find evidence illegal logging in Taman Hutan Raya-Forest Park, Indonesia. One of the core focus areas of the FAO-EU FLEGT Programme has been establishing and strengthening independent third-party on the ground forest monitoring. Indepedent monitoring increases transparency in the forestry sector and empowers local communities to participate in good forest governance.
The FAO-EU FLEGT Programme’s partnership with the Independent Forest Monitoring Fund (IFMF) aims to strengthen forest governance through the establishment and training of indenpendent monitors who are instrumental in ensuring compliance with the Indonesia Timber Legality Assurance System (or SVLK). The Programme has received widespread public support, however there remains a need to increase the capacity and reach of independent monitoring in Indonesia.
Since the start of Phase III in 2016, the Programme has supported 17 projects in Indonesia, amounting to approximately USD 1.8 million, primarily focusing on supporting MSMEs, strengthening SVLK implementation and conducting independent forest monitoring.

Plopped in the middle of the Concourse Parkway development is a little angular, white-painted folly spanning a narrow bit of the decorative water feature. For architecture fans, this is a trip in the Wayback Machine to the mid-1980s, when an architecture yet to be dubbed "Deconstructivist" reigned supreme under the sign of the adjustable drafting triangle. Wild angles and grids slip past each other, to the point where it even crossing this tame little pond feels frankly dangerous and exciting (note "CAUTION: PLEASE USE HANDRAIL" signage). Scogin & Elam here play with a redundancy and overloading of elements, suggesting just how close this abstract and formal geometric approach lies to the representational double-coding and Mannerism of Postmodernism at the same moment. It's fun! I like it! It's amazing to see something like this still intact, to be honest, especially in Atlanta.

For small businesses in the processing sector, getting international orders is a big win. In Ethiopia, as part of EIF's partnership with the government, select businesses were sent to international trade fairs like Gulfood in Dubai - the world's largest food trade exhibition.
Tewodros Yilma's Alpha Trading Partners was one of them, and there he secured orders that have helped his business grow. Alpha Trading's processing facility is outside Addis Ababa in Adama, where he employs approximately 40 people.

A truck of logs departs a monitoring plant in East Java, Indonesia. In these plants independent monitors conduct thorough inspections of merbau timber felled for exportation. Legal and sustainable timber production and trade in Indonesia rests on the application of the National Timber legality Assurance System (or SVLK), which tracks timber products from the forest throughout the supply chain.

Kantha for the Bengali folks means embroidered qulit. Kantha is said to be 'Dorukha' meaning turning the worn out and old textiles and fabrics to things of beauty. It is the way the stitch is used, in different arrangements, that forms the complex vocabulary of Kantha.
A Kantha is often referred to as a rural woman's diary as it reflects the rural woman's personal account of her life's events and happenings.
Kantha embroidery has led to socio-economic empowerment of thousands of women of Birbhum. Department of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises & Textiles (MSME&T), Goverment of West Bengal in partnership with UNESCO, is developing a Rural Craft Hub at Nanoor.
Simple run stitches at the hands of skill artists create a magical artwork called as 'Kantha Embroidery'. Kantha making is a 'women's art'. It was the bengali housewife who helped the art to evolve.
The origin of the Kantha craft traces its history to a period not less than a thousand years. since then the tradition has come a long way today when the artistic brilliance of the women artists have found expressions in lifestyle products like saree, dress materials, bed and cushion covers etc. Motifs of nature including animals, birds and flowers are extensively stitched and the art work varies from intricate and heavy to light and simple designs.
There is a large concentration of the women doing Kantha embrodiery in Nanoor block of Birbhum, West Bengal. Around 2000 women of this area are engaged in doing katha embrodiery on different products. About 600 kantha artists are included in the Rural Craft Hub.

for those who can make sense of the precise ways of the struts and the plies, the warps and the wefts, the shuttle and the reeds, weaving remains a one of the most satiating crafts, an integral part of civilised evolution branching out into a silent expression of art…
it almost seems like a visualisation of mathematical integration, singular blocks of movement, all seemingly straight and linear, translating into a curve that one wonders how it could be conjured up by a large stubborn wooden contraption — an early beacon of industrialisation that would in time be subsumed into the folds of larger machinations… handloom factories of Kumaun… Haldwani, Uttarakhand, India
