Another quick revisit to a once-threatened library; when I stopped by in 2008, the building had only recently escaped being incorporated into a condo redevelopment scheme. Today, it's about to undergo more modest transformations, with a renovation that may impact a variety of interior finishes and details but (it would appear) none of the major architectural moves. Even the floated idea of doing something with the huge south-facing wall of glass doesn't strike me as particularly ominous; the premise of that wall was to offer views downhill to downtown Atlanta, but the views have been blocked anyway by the condos that did get built, so I say install some planters or something and make the most of it. The building, like Scogin & Elam's little bridge a short drive north, is a time capsule both of the avant-garde in 1980s design, and a boom period in development on Atlanta's northern ring. I'm fond of the way it flings its formal excesses this way and that, but there are slightly less taste-dependent things to appreciate: the cone-like expansion of the main space towards that erstwhile view, and the use of simple repetitive masonry units to create a monochromatic-but-textured facade. On the last point, of course, see Knowlton.

Prem Ganapathy, the Dosa King, came to Mumbai at the age of 17 in search of a job. He was robbed and stranded at the station but he decided to give the city a chance. He started working at a bakery and later in a Dosa Shop. He saved enough money in 2 years and started his own Dosa shop. Today, he serves more than 105 varieties of dosa and has 45 national and 7 international outlets. Plopped in the middle of the Concourse Parkway development is a little angular, white-painted folly spanning a narrow bit of the decorative water feature. For architecture fans, this is a trip in the Wayback Machine to the mid-1980s, when an architecture yet to be dubbed "Deconstructivist" reigned supreme under the sign of the adjustable drafting triangle. Wild angles and grids slip past each other, to the point where it even crossing this tame little pond feels frankly dangerous and exciting (note "CAUTION: PLEASE USE HANDRAIL" signage). Scogin & Elam here play with a redundancy and overloading of elements, suggesting just how close this abstract and formal geometric approach lies to the representational double-coding and Mannerism of Postmodernism at the same moment. It's fun! I like it! It's amazing to see something like this still intact, to be honest, especially in Atlanta.

A team of independent monitors find evidence illegal logging in Taman Hutan Raya-Forest Park, Indonesia. One of the core focus areas of the FAO-EU FLEGT Programme has been establishing and strengthening independent third-party on the ground forest monitoring. Indepedent monitoring increases transparency in the forestry sector and empowers local communities to participate in good forest governance.

The FAO-EU FLEGT Programme’s partnership with the Independent Forest Monitoring Fund (IFMF) aims to strengthen forest governance through the establishment and training of indenpendent monitors who are instrumental in ensuring compliance with the Indonesia Timber Legality Assurance System (or SVLK). The Programme has received widespread public support, however there remains a need to increase the capacity and reach of independent monitoring in Indonesia.

Since the start of Phase III in 2016, the Programme has supported 17 projects in Indonesia, amounting to approximately USD 1.8 million, primarily focusing on supporting MSMEs, strengthening SVLK implementation and conducting independent forest monitoring.
