Many singaporean still don't know what's MRT or LRT stand for, In full MRT stand for "Mass Rapid Transit" and LRT stand for "Light Rapid Transit" or " Light Rail Transit". The Mass Rapid Transit or MRT is a rapid transit system that forms the backbone of the railway system in Singapore, spanning the entire city-state. The initial section of the MRT, between Yio Chu Kang Station and Toa Payoh Station, opened in 1987 establishing itself as the second-oldest metro system in Southeast Asia, after Manila's LRT System. The network has since grown rapidly as a result of Singapore's aim of developing a comprehensive rail network as the main backbone of the public transport system in Singapore with an average daily ridership of 1.952 million in 2009, just over 63% of the bus network's 3.085 million in the same period.

The first LRT line was opened in 1999 and the system has since expanded to three lines, each serving a public housing estate.

The system is closer to an automated people mover system such as those found in many airports around the world than a traditional light rail system. All the lines are fully automated and elevated, and run on viaducts in order to save scarce land space in Singapore.

Jurong East MRT Station (NS1/EW24) is an above-ground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station that is part of the North South Line (Branch Line before 1996) and the East West Line in Singapore, and serves as an interchange station between the two lines. It is located in the eastern portion of the town of Jurong, serving Jurong East Neighbourhoods 1, 2 and 4 and the commercial centre of the upcoming Jurong Gateway precinct in the Jurong Lake District.[1]

On the North South Line, it is the first station for south-bound trains and the last station for north-bound trains. On the East West Line, it is between the Chinese Garden and the Clementi MRT stations. During the morning and evening peak periods, there will be trains departing from Ulu Pandan Depot to arrive at the middle platform of the station to travel towards Marina Bay. During peak periods, some trains at the middle platform will terminate at Yew Tee and Ang Mo Kio MRT stations. When the MRT service is about to end for the day, trains at the middle platform will terminate at Ang Mo Kio and Toa Payoh MRT stations instead. Also, this is one of the four MRT stations to appear in the original Singapore Edition of Monopoly.
