Mount Diablo Jewelflower (Streptanthus hispidus). This rare species grows wild in only one place in the world -- on Mt. Diablo in Contra Costa County, California. The specimens I photographed were all located quite close to the summit of the mountain -- in a patch of gravel next to a vertical rock face.
About two dozens species of Streptanthus, along with many subspecies, can be found in California. A surprisingly large number of these species or subspecies are rare. Most of the rare species (such as S. hispidus) have an extremely limited geographic range.

Mount Grace Priory, in the parish of East Harlsey, North Yorkshire, England, within the North York Moors National Park, is today the best preserved and most accessible of the ten medieval Carthusian houses in England.
Founded by Thomas Holland in 1398, the priory consisted of a Church and two cloisters.
Unlike other orders which ate, drank, slept, and worked together, the Carthusians had private cells and lived in silence, devoting their whole existence to solitary contemplation and working on their garden plots.
