Mount Wuyi is the most outstanding area for biodiversity conservation in south-east China and a refuge for a large number of ancient, relict species, many of them endemic to China. The serene beauty of the dramatic gorges of the Nine Bend River, with its numerous temples and monasteries, many now in ruins, provided the setting for the development and spread of neo-Confucianism, which has been influential in the cultures of East Asia since the 11th century. In the 1st century B.C. a large administrative capital was built at nearby Chengcun by the Han dynasty rulers. Its massive walls enclose an archaeological site of great significance.

Taken during a visit to the Mount Emei area near Chengdu in China in December 2013.
These particular photos were taken from my arrival at the Mount Emei Scenic Area, on the climb up to the "Golden Summit" area by foot and cable car, and the descent back down again, including all those crazy tibetan macaques which just love to grab goodies from the passing tourists.
Made a stop at the Mount Wood overlook to check out the graffiti and the view of the Ohio Valley. Unfortunately it was the wrong time of day to get any good shots of Wheeling and the River with my POS phone's camera.
This Carthusian Priory is now in the care of English Heritage.

The Arts and Crafts mansion has been restored with 1920s interiors to the house.
Mount Grace Priory was founded in 1398 by Richard II’s nephew Thomas de Holland.
It is the best-preserved Carthusian monastery in England. The priory is even used by historians as a ‘type site’, or model, for the study of other medieval Carthusian buildings.
Mount Grace was one of only nine Carthusian monasteries, also known as charterhouses, in medieval England.
Carthusian monks lived solitary lives. They spent most of their time in isolated cells and lived according to a strict timetable.
Mount Grace was one of the last monasteries in Yorkshire to be suppressed during the Reformation.
In the 17th century, part of the priory was remodelled as a mansion.
In the early 20th century, the site was bought by wealthy industrialist Lowthian Bell. Bell enlarged and remodelled the mansion at Mount Grace in the Arts and Crafts style championed by William Morris.
Aoraki/Mount Cook is the highest mountain in New Zealand, reaching a height of 3,754 metres (12,316 ft) It lies in the Southern Alps, the mountain range which runs the length of the South Island. A popular tourist destination, it is also a favourite challenge for mountain climbers. Aoraki/Mt Cook consists of three summits lying slightly south and east of the main divide, the Low Peak, Middle Peak and High Peak, with the Tasman Glacier to the east and the Hooker Glacier to the west.

Mount Katahdin captured from Grindstone Road in Stacyville, Maine
At 5267 feet (13 feet less than one mile), Mount Katahdin is the tallest mountain in Maine.
We had originally intended to see Mount Katahdin up close and personal, but Baxter State Park has a strict anti-pet policy, and we were not allowed to enter the park with Bailey in the car, so rather that leaving Bailey locked in the Airstream by herself for an entire day we decided to mumble a number of expletives regarding Baxter State Park's anti-pet policy, and view Katahdin from a pet friendly distance. 'Cause after all, god forbid a dog should poop in dah woods!
