Mount Nageli ( 2165m) is more or less unfamous. It is located westwards of the famous Churfirsten mountain chain and eastwards of the easily accessible Leistkamm (2101m). Walking alongside the Toggenburger Hohenweg you get to the feet of the mountain at 1820m. You have to walk over a boulder field first, and then along a steep meadow/moss slope. This T3 categorized way get’s the last out of you. It’s really exhausting. The summit has only occasional visitors. The last entry in the guest book of the summit cross was in February 2011 – three months ago.

I have chosen mount Nageli because of all the summits around it has the best 360° view and you can see the Churfirsten tops in one row. If you do such a ascent, you have to stay for a while. I get up in the evenings, stayed during the night to take pictures and get down in the morning.

Mount Robson is the most prominent mountain in North America's Rocky Mountain range; it is also the highest point in the Canadian Rockies. The mountain is located entirely within Mount Robson Provincial Park of British Columbia, and is part of the Rainbow Range. Mount Robson is the second highest peak entirely in British Columbia, behind Mount Waddington in the Coast Range. Mount Robson boasts great vertical relief over the local terrain. From Kinney Lake, the south side of the mountain rises 3,000 m (9,843 ft) to the summit. The north face of Mount Robson is heavily glaciated and 800 m (2,600 ft) of ice extends from the summit to Berg Glacier. IMG_8331

Pompeii Amphitheatre ~ Mount Vesuvius, a volcano near the Bay of Naples in Italy, is hundreds of thousands of years old and has erupted more than 50 times. Its most famous eruption took place in the year 79 A.D., when the volcano buried the ancient Roman city of Pompeii under a thick carpet of volcanic ash, superheated poisoned gas and pulverized rock. The lava swallowed everything and everyone in its path, killing over 2,000 people.

Dating from 80 BC, the massive Amphitheater at the far end of Pompeii seated 12,000 spectators. It is the oldest surviving Roman amphitheater. My favorite band, Pink Floyd, recorded a film there in 1971. It's notable for having no spectators. During "One Of These Days", drummer Nick Mason lost a drumstick and kept playing with one hand while retrieving another without missing a beat. :o)

After last year having so few days of beautiful weather and fall colours, it was time to take them in on a Thanksgiving Day on the Niagara Escarpment.

Mount St. Helens erupted on May 18, 1980

The eruption was the deadliest volcanic event in the history of the United States.57 people were killed. The eruption, which reduced the height of the mountain's summit from 2,950 m to 2,550 m, killed 57 people and countless animals. The nature was destroyed. Nature recovers but you can still see the wounds of the catastrophes.

per wikipedia: Mount Thielsen, or Big Cowhorn (Klamath: hisc’akwaleeʔas), is an extinct shield volcano in the Oregon High Cascades, near Mount Bailey. Because eruptive activity ceased 250,000 years ago, glaciers have heavily eroded the volcano's structure, creating precipitous slopes and a horn-like peak. The spire-like shape of Thielsen attracts lightning strikes and creates fulgurite, an unusual mineral. The prominent horn forms a centerpiece for the Mount Thielsen Wilderness, a reserve for recreational activities such as skiing and hiking. (Southern Oregon Cascades trip DSC_8130.jpg)
