A view of Mount Christo Rey and the surrounding area from Transmountain Drive in El Paso, Texas. Mt. Christo Rey lies partially in El Paso, Texas, part in New Mexico and part in old Mexico (Ciudad Jarez). El Paso is in the foreground, and Mexico lies behind the new mountain. The taller mountains are all in Mexico. The Rio Grande River runs by the mountain though the lowest point in the valley. In the foreground, you can see a bit of the native Chihuauan Desert vegetation.
Lately I have been re-examining some of my post-processing workflow and trying to master new techniques such as exposure blending, luminosity masks and LAB color. I've re-examined some earlier pictures and decided that in my effort to widen the dynamic range I sometimes went too far and created an unnatural appearance. This old picture of Mount Moran is one that I reworked to better convey my current aesthetic vision.

I took on the entire Berg Lake Trail in Mount Robson Provincial Park yesterday. Round trip, it is over 50 kilometres in length. I made it to Berg Lake and back in 9 hours and 7 minutes. You spend almost all your time on the trail hiking in this behemoths shadow. Once the valley opens up to Berg Lake itself, pictures do not do the place justice. It rendered me speechless. It was a day well spent and I'm very happy I took on such a crazy journey.

A panoramic photo from Mount Arabella. I would argue, despite the shorter distance summiting Mount Arabella is harder than summting Mount Ararat. This is due to the Heaven's Gate Trail East (starting from HWY 6) has way more ups and downs. Mount Ararat trail from the Red Deer Trail is mostly flat until you summit Mount Ararat. Heaven's Gate on the East immediately tackles an unnamed mountain, with lots of ups and downs slurping lots of energy,
Mount Kenya shot from the verandah of Rhino Retreat in the Aberdares National Park. From here it is about 62 km or 38 miles to the summit.
Mount Kenya is the second highest mountain in Africa after Kilimanjaro, at a whopping 5,199 metres above sea level. There is always some snow and ice at its summit. Rhino Retreat itself is just below the 2,500 metre mark.
There is usually cloud on the summit in the afternoons, at least as viewed from the west. This was a much clearer afternoon than average. There is a big rain storm coming in on the left edge of shot, off to the south. Luckily, it missed us.
I've spent quite some time in Portland, but had never managed to see Mount Hood due to overcast skies. Finally on my last vist, as I took off from the airport all was revealed...
Mount Pisgah, Teller County, CO, USA
An interesting bit of gold mining history related to Mount Pisgah ...
This was shot in the gardens behind St Michaels Mount. I’d spotted the crystal clear turquoise sea from the terrace and just had to get down to the waters edge. I knew that the movement in the waves would add some contrast and drama to the backdrop of the dominant castle.
note: i've had some techinical questions about this image that need some clrification.
I used an nd-graduated filter doubled up with a nd 8 and a polarizer to get the colours and to deal with the reflections and to get the movement. Also for double safety I bracketed it and filled in any burned out areas.... I personally feel it needs just a bit more dodge and burn but I didn’t want to over work it. And I need some time to reflect on this.
