An ode to one of my favourite all time bands: The Police.
80s music rocks!
I got the idea for this from the cover art work on their 3rd album Zenyatta Mondatta.
A 3D pyramid seemed like the next logical step after doing 3D cubes.
I did manage to figure out how to make the rendering go a lot faster and am now using all 8 i7 cores to render -- makes things go A LOT faster!!! =)
Hilti PD38
this is a laser range meter. you point and press the big button and it gives you the distance, very accurately.
Pros:
- works good in sunlight
- shock/drop protected
- it can calculate area and volume for you but i usually don't have to do that on the fly.
- it has bluetooth connectivity to a pc (windows/BOO) or a pda (again windows/SUCK). so when i press the button and take a measurement, it sends the number over to the pda in an excel spreadsheet cell. VERY NICE and saves me from human error and my bad penmanship. surveying a location or set by myself (as i'm usually forced to do) this is a time-saver. when i have an assist with me, we can do a lot of data collecting very quickly.
Cons:
- the bluetooth only talks to PC/Windows machines. it's stupid because all it's doing is sending a number, i wish they would have an SDK or something.
- they don't make this anymore. but you can still find new ones in stock remaining in stores and at their own warehouse.
I'm saving up for the Leica Disto D8 which has a color screen, and everything my Hilti does. The good news is Leica will work with software people to try and get their laser meters to work with your software via bluetooth.
The bad news is the D8 doesn't look like it has much protection, I have dropped my laser from serious heights and it's survived. (yet for some reason the plastic sheet protector for the screen has never come off).

The Bandai snowspeeder kits we've been working on for about a month. Picked them up in January at the Comic Hunter.
The 1981 MPC AT-AT is from my youth. Our plan is to eventually get some newer Bandai AT-ATs and AT-STs and stage a really big battle.
If I seem fixated on this scene... the answer is probably yes. LOL.
Empire is probably my favourite sci-fi movie, and really blew my mind when I was a kid when I saw it when it was new in 1980.

插畫設計靈感來自香港老電影「空中小姐」以及「上海之夜」橋段,以渴望成名的少女們寓意,如何打發等待的時間,思考是否真的需要符合世俗審美標準才是擁有美貌?就讓音樂呈現現代女子的各式各樣,不需要膠原蛋白,自信自在歌唱心中所愛。

配樂選用脆弱少女組《因為你承載了我的靈魂》描摹青春歲月中不斷出現的迷離與逃避。片頭音效以彷彿置身太空島嶼中失去電力關機的數位訊號,隨著場景轉換,加入動植物與自然元素,越來越多的綠意生機浮現,片尾呼應片頭關機的音效隱喻,以為靈魂重新充電作為收尾。
事實上,厭世青年從來不只是厭世,更是對這世界有太多的愛,當你心有所愛,便不忍世界頹敗。主角身處自身黑暗荒蕪的宇宙漂浮島嶼,歷經支離破碎與風浪摧折,卻終於能夠遇見乘載靈魂的所在,終於能與自己共處,一如專輯創作與製作人總是歷經對話、碰撞,終將看見創作的重量,某一天,也許會看見出口,以真實的生命經驗、創作對話成就美好專輯。

Calculated Industries Frame Master II
This thing has saved my ass more times than i can count. When you and the editor are tired and stupid from no sleep, this thing is a god send. it can convert any timecode/filmcode/frames of any rate. The Foot+frame conversion to Minutes:Seconds with one button push is great, push the button again and it shows time code (ndf, df). You can program a frame rate in memory and it will convert for that as well.
the button layout, the ease of use, even the sturdy build of this thing (which has lasted easily over 10 years) is awesome. i have tried every software/iphone framecode/timecode calculator out there and none are this easy and this fast.
the ONLY con is it is not backlit but that is the only complaint i have.
p.s. Calculated industries don't make these anymore and don't plan to. somebody write some letters!

with this and your brain to do a little math, you can calculate height, slope and vertical of almost anything. good for big surveys of things like trees, houses, terrain.

入圍影片以去年新人獎得主草東沒有樂隊《大風吹》寓意新世代打破既有主流印象,音效場景在國小的運動會上,歌曲播放的載體是學校操場司令台的廣播喇吧,音效呈現較勁、競爭、搶位子競賽,歡呼、喝采、加油的聲浪。
每個時代都說一代不如一代,但也許每個世代本身的特色從來就無法比較,每一代都有自己認同的典範價值,畫面中穿著中學制服的人物有各式各樣的工具與方式,象徵新生代集結資源、懂得分享、善用工具,打破不平等制度、資訊不透明的流程、資源與權力被壟斷的社會,新世代不再需要需要競逐虎頭上的王位,而是彼此共享串連,創作截然不同的大膽新銳作品,讓音樂說話,沒有人能夠定義每一代的英雄。

if it's not heavy, grey and can hurt you, you probably have the wrong one.
this one has sawing knife for rope, a finer knife for cutting filament, screwdriver, wire cutters, pliers. and optional bit-kit.

25 foot tape measure
sometimes lasers don't work especially for props or pieces with nothing to bounce off of.
- english and metric
- really bright tape with BIG numbers so you can see them in darker corners, etc.
- backside of tape has a vertical read scale to make reading up and down walls easier
- the tip has a hook and is magnetic, very helpful when you're doing measuring alone. the magnet is strong enough to hold the whole tape fully extended.
i have broken 2 of these (this is my 3rd). they don't make them anymore because i think they finally got smart and evolved the model to have a rubber casing to protect from drops.

nikon mb-10 extra battery and vertical grip.
my D300 fires pretty fast, so i don't use it that much when doing sphericals. i do use it for still photography of textures, photogrammetry elements and reference stills.

NDs you can for use for vfx when shooting plates with no crowd control, a locked off long exposure will usually get rid of the moving people.

used for checking contrast and spill on greenscreens, bluescreen and redscreens. i don't use these too much anymore since pulling mattes and correcting spill has gotten to be so good.
i have the Tri-color Wrattens protected in Gepe slide mounts with Anti-Newton glass (Anti-Newton glass is glass thats been treated to prevent air pockets that occur when 2 pieces of glass are pressed together, light passes thru the air pockets and causes small rings of light also known as "Newton's Rings" because the phenomenon was discovered by Sir Isaac Newton)
My question is when did Sir Isaac Newton have time to be VFX Supervisor?

原住民語音樂創作就像是台灣文化的底蘊,豐富、多元、樸實而純粹,片頭配樂《在這土地上》音樂創作呈現台灣自然質樸映像,音效製作想像一位登山旅者緩緩前行,從一開始在遠處看見島嶼,登山前進,許多美好的聲音慢慢浮現,海洋、微風、山岳、蕨類、鳥類、羽翼斑斕的蝴蝶與鳥類,不只有畫面中物件的聲響,而是自然環境中的世界觀透過聲音呈現一趟台灣自然旅程。
影片以特色山岳:五山三尖一奇:玉山、南湖大山、秀姑巒山、北大武山、雪山、中央尖山、達芬尖山、大霸尖山與奇萊主山,彷彿《台灣生物圖鑑》的概念呈現特有種蕨類與蝴蝶、鳥類羽色。視覺以細膩的插畫筆觸描繪,結合動植物細緻材質紋理,台灣擁有的美景無論是恢宏壯闊或者袖珍細緻,以奇異詭麗的細膩筆觸細看身邊無數燦爛風景。

A simple idea. A consistent frame for a multitude of work. A single dot, each representing one collaborator, each a connection to another.
Each collaborator is given a template of a dot in a fixed position on an A2 portrait poster. Each interpreted this in their own way.
These are the first 25. There will be 100 in total and be collated into a book and exhibition.

入圍影片宣言:傳承是最美好的回饋
不忘記過去,不停止前進,影片配樂選用客家歌手黃瑋傑作品《天光日》,向客家音樂指標性前輩交工樂隊致意,以及形塑了重要的客家聚落認同的美濃反水庫事件。考量選歌具有的重要土地意象,配樂製作上先將音樂放在隱微的位置,搭配片頭動態將工廠推開後,屬於在地的音樂隨著自然意象一同浮現,創造場域的轉換,以及各個入圍者間相互搭配的昆蟲、植物、與孩童的歡笑。
一如曾經的美濃反水庫運動守護了珍貴的生態文化,影片希望呈現這不只是環境運動,是對台灣自然、人文的守護與傳承,我們擁有多元異質的音樂創作,在地豐富的文史值得被看見,就讓社區文化資產、農村轉型的珍貴記憶與美好客家文化不斷傳唱下去。

以原子邦妮《折桂令》作為片頭片尾配樂,刻畫為了夢想與更好的生活在外闖蕩的離人心中無數思念,按下錄音帶開關後動態與音樂流轉,車水馬龍沓雜的聲音、外食的微波爐聲響、車站港口的離別場景音效,異鄉工作的辦公室日常。
入圍影片描摹遠在異鄉的想念千迴百轉,宛如錄音專輯在唱盤上不斷旋轉的意象,影片中的主角在走過無數離別場景,目送家人越來越遠的車站月台、吃不到熟悉家常菜口味的昂貴飯館,日常生活的每個場景,無一不是思念的樂音千迴百轉、盪氣迴腸。不管走了多遠,離別始終都是為了重聚,是為了和心中所愛再次重聚,懷抱著更好的未來、對於更好的生活想像而告別,終會找到回家的路。走過世界,就是回家的路,穿過世界、離開家鄉所愛,是為了回來建造一片真正美好的家園與理想國。

年少時代的搖滾夢是青春裡面最燦爛的回憶,以玖壹壹《我的路》刻畫追求歌手夢想路上各式辛酸苦辣與考驗始終無所畏懼的精神,音樂場景置身於施工現場,把隨身攜帶的音樂播放器開至最大聲,在空曠的建物裡享受回音,勞動日常的聲響,搭配入圍者元件的環境音。
追尋音樂旅程中,會有各式挑戰,也許需要嘗試從來沒有做過的事,但不怕月底吃土、不怕生活不如意,只要是自己選的路,說什麼都要走到最後一刻絕不放手,影片中各個角色在追尋金曲歌王的夢想中,都展現了音樂人對於所愛的堅持,吃苦沒關係,吃土也沒關係,只要還有音樂就好,只要可以一直追尋夢想就好。

入圍影片宣言:改變,就要強烈一點!
片頭配樂選用五五身樂團《午後雷雨》,雷陣雨前的燠熱潮溼,是改變與革命前夕最令人感到窒息的時刻,歷經雷擊暴雨過後,終於又是全新自我。音樂發聲的場域在影片中機器人腦中,透過耳機播放,隨著歌詞越來越強烈。進入隧道後的空間場域音效則以呈現機器人過場為主。
影片描述故事主角追求自我突破、不斷升級的歷練過程,將自我拆解、重組、碰撞、對話,一次循環過後,就又是全新的自己。唯有不斷唱出對於音樂與世界的期待、渴望,錄下每一刻真實的聲量震盪,誠如錄製專輯過程中反覆迴旋來回的嘔心瀝血製作,對作品帶來強烈的震盪改變。

片頭配樂選用李英宏《台北直直撞》刻畫年輕人們在台北的迷茫、未知、勇氣,影片中的機車是音樂的載體,隨著機車的動態創造聲音的流動而忽遠忽近的效果,配樂製作中的爆炸、烈焰都加入類似電玩、數位的模擬音效而非一般的寫實配音,期待為觀眾帶來更加奇幻的體驗:用新世代的想像力,創造新工具,大膽突圍。
台北是所有追夢者的家,每個時代都有無數懷抱夢想的青年們來到這裡追夢,儘管有無數難題,低薪、高房價,缺乏資源,看不見未來的可能,竭盡所有只為在這座城市生存,片中三位主角騎著機車在城市街頭闖蕩,新世代擁有無畏勇氣與全新的工具持續前進,集結資源、累積技能,開創無數可能性,解決眼下問題,為台灣直直撞出新未來。
當22k炸彈落在台北街頭,唯有橫度每個時代的艱困難題,衝出困境,夢想終將會在城市生活裡慢慢開花,迎風搖曳。

最佳專輯裝幀設計獎入圍影片以老王樂隊《補習班的門口高掛著我的黑白照片》為片頭配樂,描繪補習班、考試帶來的困惑與煎熬,教室彷彿監獄般規訓每個人的異質性,音效場景設定自中學校園內的廣播喇吧播放,威權教育的場景加入教室內粉筆的清脆聲響、課桌椅的木頭質地效果。入圍者的專輯音樂特地挑選沒有人聲歌詞段落,期待此獎項的入圍影片能夠更著重在專輯包裝設計如何細緻呈現每一張專輯,看見作品的獨特性。

The main visual concept for the 26th Golden Melody Award Ceremony pays tribute to Taiwan as the source of inspiration for music. Named "Original Soundtrack of Taiwan", the design takes cue from the sight and sound of Taiwan and invokes a collective memory of the land.

入圍影片宣言:自己的標籤自己貼
片頭配樂選用饒舌歌手熊仔的作品《凶宅》,音樂讓活在刻板印象的人們得以有所不同,玩音樂的小男孩永遠都有可能變成天菜、變成偶像。影片中的飛行器就是音樂的載體,音效概念呈現了星際大戰中的科幻奇異,並加入沙漠的飛沙、標籤紙張飛動與無線電電波聲響。
少年駕駛飛行器穿越各式各樣的巨大人像,標籤四散瓦解,當我們透過媒體、網路、耳語,輕易地將他人貼上標籤,便再也看不見個人真實樣貌,難以理解他人獨特與差異,影片中沒有面孔的人像被貼上社會賦予的既有標籤,,音樂是每個創作者的宣言,表達自我主張、脫離世俗眼光,只有我的歌,可以說清楚我是誰,就讓我用音樂告訴你我想要什麼標籤。
