CC Week 36: a sense of depth

Foreground interest and people near and far give this beach a sense of scale as well as depth, even though the horizon is lost in the fog.

... ... in Cambria, just south of San Simeon on the Pacific Coast Highway. There is a mile long Broadwalk overlooking the beach.

On the beach are large pieces of drift logs; a characteristic of this beach.

Interesting micro texture on this one.

The last test, the best result, and of course hell to photograph.

Left : translucent clay and silver paint.

Others: Translucent clay covered in eyeshadow or pearlex, and then in silver paint. The best colors are the very intense blue and green eyeshadows, and the interference gold pearlex.

Just took this shot a few hours ago. Sometimes bud shots look better than exhibition stage shots. Moonstone is a hybrid tea rose that came out in 1998,

First piece I've made in 3 months. And no, it hasn't triggered an avalanche of productivity yet.

Phenomena Adularescence- a glowing effect, the finest of which is bluish. Finest quality moonstone is semi-transparent; poorest is translucent. Occasionally a sharp cat's eye may be present.

Moonstone (~1.9 centimeters across at its widest)

The term “moonstone” has been used to refer to various materials, but properly refers to iridescent whitish-gray feldspar. The bluish-white shimmering effect is the result of light being split along the boundaries between closely intergrown feldspars having varying sodium content.

For decades this was the last and only nude beach on the east coast of the United States. It was popular, unassuming and visited by anyone that simply enjoyed the au naturel life-style. Eventually the “powers-that-be” passed laws to deny people the right to be seen “as they were created” and forced an end to the practice. People fought to keep it open but were up against the state and town legal machinery. I can’t help thinking of the old saying, “You can’t fight city hall”.

Of all the species that have walked planet earth for hundreds of millions of years, only mankind was able to turn nakedness into a crime. Go figure.
