I thought I would give a brief overview of the history of the Freemasons, but when I looked up Wikipedia I realised it would be impossible to be succinct.
So I guess some highlights might be
* Freemasonry is a fraternal organisation that arose from obscure origins in the late 16th to early 17th century.
* Two of the principal symbolic tools always found in a Lodge are the square and compasses.
* Freemasons use signs (gestures), grips or tokens (handshakes) and words to gain admission to meetings and identify legitimate visitors.
* Freemasons do charitable work for society which is commendable
* Entry to the world of Freemasonry is only possible under certain conditions and personal credentials, and only available to males.
This shot is from the Brisbane Masonic Building, and certainly suggests a level of structural substance that one would expect from such an institution.
View Large On Black for best effect.
The thin black lines in the lower shot are tree branches, which I was unable to avoid.

I wasn't gonna, but then I woke up this morning and decided I had an idea for a mono smoothie...
With Storm clouds and rain in the distance, I choose this comp and foreground. Black and White makes it moody and threatening.
Processed in LR4, even old raw from a canon 20D can be processed with lot of noise reduction and still have it sharp.
Comments Welcome! #MonoMonday #MoodyMonday
It's soft, it's spongy, it's fun to play with in your hands. It's a . . . . . . .

New South Wales is currently experiencing an unprecedented amount of rainfall, causing havoc in many parts of the state,18,000 people have been evacuated from their homes due to floods.
After a couple of wet days cooped up I decided I needed to get some fresh (wet) air and headed into my local national park, really to just illustrate the obvious and why it is currently closed.
Despite all the wet destruction I still cannot deny the beauty in rain, especially in the subtle things.

This one was captured in the now closed Back Page Cafe in Lowell in Feb. 2017. This one is a bit 'grainier' than I'd normally post but I like the angle and Aaron's expression.

One day on our trip to Thailand we popped to the weekly market and noticed on our way back this restaurant washing dishes out back! Who needs hot water from the tap when outdoor heat is enough!
Thought it made for a nice bit of street work..
Happy week everyone.

Mono Monday ( I hope this counts as mono to a certain extent)
Stinking hot days in sunny Brisbane.
This is an archive shot, but I like it.

One hint I share with budding photographers is to learn to see in black-and-white; Focus only on the light and shadow aspects of a scene and picture in your mind an image devoid of color.
This image started out as an over-exposed shot of pine needles floating on a pond. A few tweaks in Lightroom and viola!

Another photo of my "weekend flowers". The flower was placed on glass above a lamp. I processed the photo in Elements to convert to b&w & soften the effect, as well as adjusting levels.

Song title "Memory" from the musical Cats (Andrew Lloyd Webber).
This is a memory of my beautiful cat Misty. It's an old photo, taken with my first digital camera, now converted to sepia.
My lovely girl, for Caturday archives. Misty was my first cat, who was a very special birthday gift when she was a kitten. My mum didn't really want a cat, but knew that I'd wanted one for years. Clever kitten - by the time I'd driven home with her on my mum's lap, Misty had convinced my mum she was the best thing ever, just by staring at her adoringly & giving her the "silent miaow" treatment!
"3 AM" ~ Rob Thomas, Matchbox 20
"She said it's cold outside and she hands me my raincoat
She's always worried about things like that
She said it's all gonna end and it might as well be my fault
And she only sleeps when it's raining
And she screams and her voice is strained
And
She says baby
It's 3 am I must be lonely
When she says baby
Well I can't help but be scared of it all sometimes
The rain's gonna wash away I believe it
She's got a little bit of something, God it's better than nothing
And in her color portrait world she believes that she's got it all
She swears the moon don't hang quite as high as it used to
And she only sleeps when it's raining
And she screams and her voice is strained...
And
She says baby
It's 3 am I must be lonely
Well heaven she says baby
Well I can't help but be scared of it all sometimes
Says the rain's gonna wash away I believe it
She believes that life is made up of all that you're used to
And the clock on the wall has been stuck at three for days, and days
She thinks that happiness is a mat that sits on her doorway
But outside it's stopped raining
She says baby
It's 3 am I must be lonely
Well heaven she says baby
Well I can't help but be scared of it all sometimes
Says the rain's gonna wash away I believe it
Well it's 3 am I must be lonely
Well heaven she says baby
Well I can't help but be scared of it all sometimes."
The Addams Family Theme ~ Lyrics by Vic Mizzy
"They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky.
They're all together ooky, The Addams Family.
Their house is a museum, when people come to see 'em.
They really are a scream, The Addams Family.
(Neat)
(Sweet)
(Petite)
So get a witches shawl on, a broomstick you can crawl on.
We're gonna pay a call on, The Addams Family."

For Christmas in 1977 my Aunt Janice and Uncle Phil gave me the coolest bit of jewelry you could give a boy that year: a Darth Vader necklace! It's banged up from years of love, but I still think it's pretty cool.
