The vervet monkeys or green monkeys are medium-sized primates from the family of Old World monkeys. There are six species currently recognized, although some classify them all as a single species with numerous subspecies. Either way, they make up the entirety of the genus Chlorocebus.

At the monkey sanctuary on Miyajima, the monkeys are free to go wherever, so you can get right up close to them. There were eight baby monkeys there when we visited.

Monkeys are beautiful, curious and sometimes annoying, above all when they steal your muffins!

The grumpier they look, the cuter they are. This guy looks Scottish to me, haha. Possibly goes by the name 'Jock'.

Another shot. This monkey has a bit of the appearance of a depressed old man. I understand that it is this species that has served as the organ grinder at street fairs.
