On return to the temple the alms that have been given are shared and provide the daily food for the temple residents.

Buddhist monks leave from the temples, early each morning, to gather their daily meal. The tradition of alms gathering dates back to the 14th century – locals wake early to prepare the food for the monks and wait quietly by the roadside to give their gifts.

Bhutanese monks perform cham, the ancient ritual dance of Tantric Buddhism, Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at Battery Park in New York. The monks were in New York to celebrate the exhibition 'The Dragon's Gift: The Sacred Arts of Bhutan' at Rubin Museum of Art through Jan. 5, 2009.

Quite by accident we found out that a theatergroup was going to perform the English Mystery Plays at Monk Bretton Priory. We were curious as to where that was and what it looked like, so we went for a day out and (of course) took our cameras with us!!

Monk Bretton Priory is an old ruin in the town of Barnsley, South Yorkshire. It's just a short busride and walk from where I live.

As you can see we had glorious weather that day and taking pictures there was absolutely fantastic. It's a huge site and even when there are more people around the peace and tranquility is maintained.

The site is freely accessible for picnics, wandering around, silent contemplation or anything else you can think of.

Monk, short for monkey, had a terrible start to life and was rescued by an RSPCA inspector from a filthy and lonely apartment. Monk desperately needs loving new owners. He's currently staying at the RSPCA Southridge. T: 0300 123 0704

Nestled in the heart of rural Sussex, Monk’s House is a tranquil 17th-century weatherboarded cottage inhabited by Leonard and the novelist Virginia Woolf from 1919 until Leonards death in 1969.

The Woolfs bought Monk's House for the 'shape and fertlity and wildness of the garden'. Today, the lovely cottage garden contains a mix of flowers, vegetables, orchards, lawns and ponds.

This is one of my absolute faves. Unfortunate that it's a little blurry. Scenes like these make me smile because they remind me that I'm in Vietnam... and that makes me happy... happy to be on the opposite side of the world where I came from. So far away.
