it was time for afternoon classes for the younger monks at Chimi Lhakhang and this older monk was keeping watch at the doorway for those that might want to enjoy the fall sunshine instead of study. He was memorizing scriptures while he waited.
Daishō-in or Daisyō-in is a historic Japanese temple complex with many temples and statues on Mount Misen, the holy mountain on the island of Miyajima, off the coast of Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima, Japan. It is the 14th temple in the Chūgoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage and famous for the maple trees and their autumn colors. It is also called "Suishō-ji". Including Mt. Misen, Daishō-in is within the World Heritage Area of Itsukushima Shrine.
In this temple there is a flame which is said to have been burning since its foundation, for more than 1200 years.
The 14th Dalai Lama visited Itsukushima to celebrate the 1200th-year of Daishō-in from 3 to 8 November 2006
A quick check of eBird indicates that Monk Parakeets are pretty widespread across the United States but it’s probably not news that they aren’t native. As far as I know, the birds that we encounter here in North America are a side effect of the pet trade.
I always enjoy watching parrots, they are so social and each one seems to have its own personality and they always seem to be doing something entertaining. I guess that is why they are so popular as pets. Another reason that I love seeing Monk Parakeets is that they remind me of seeing them in the Pantanal of Brazil building nests in the bottom of a huge Jabiru nest.
These birds, however, were in the exotic location known as the Texas City Dike where a group of about 30 birds seemed to be eating any vegetation they could get their beaks on.

Atmospheric, timeless, peaceful Monk haven.
The old fortification can be seen. Up a path, which follows a water course, old ornamental pond, is Monk Haven Manor, a beautiful B&B, popular for weddings, and just next door is a church

A monk’s maroon robe is often deemed as a symbol of asceticism and a sober life devoid of zest. But these young monks in richly coloured robes manifest the true essence of practice, about living in the moment with fullest exuberance and oblivious to everything else, much unlike the greyness of the walls behind them.
This photograph was made in Ki Gompa, a monastery of Tibetan Buddhist traditions in the Indian Himalayas, where I was staying and documenting the way of life of the monks. Every evening, young monks were allowed a time off and gathered at an open ground to play. One such evening, these boys began giggling and chasing each other, some of them climbing over a platform about 5 feet high, when this image was made.

This snapshot was taken in a monastery near Nyaungshwe at the Inlay Lake / Shan State. Those two monks were reflecting on their homework, later on I watched them with some other monks during class. The monastery is called Shwe Yan Pyay and is about a 30 min walk away from Nyaungshwe.
Photographed in my village and seen building their nests high in Palm trees. this is a second time breeding this year
The Monk Parakeets originally introduced in Spain in the 1970s as pets, a species native in Argentina, & Brazil in South America, escapees now successfully breed and are now seen in very large numbers. They are considered invasive species and are being culled in many cities.
These Monk Parakeets don't quite fit on this bird feeder. Notice how one Parakeet uses his tail feathers to balance himself.

In the Gothic church on Mont St Michel.
...
The key is turned and people stream in, we arrive back in the refectory, transformed into a music-room, red carpet on the floor, a clavecimble in place and a young musician tuning it, we hang around, she starts to play, it is brilliant!
Very beautiful, you get ‘enveloped’ by the sounds…
We decide to continue, we hear other instruments in the distance, we are curious. Via another way, we arrive back in the church, the monks and nuns have left, the familiar scent and smoke of the incense lingers heavily in bands across the high vaulted ceiling, off-setting the rays of incoming sunlight, it is awesome!
Feverishly I take more images, the sun might go… the incense is thinning...
Have a glorious day and thanx, M, (*_*)
