From the 1965 edition of the City's official handbook, the first since the 1958 issue, and editied by F W Bradnock, the city's Public Relations Officer. The handbook was a regular publication and it describes the work of the City Council, in terms of administration, public works and buildings, education, social services, protective services, amenities and civic trading undertakings.
Birmingham were great believers in mercury vapour street lighting both on main and side roads. They stuck with two local manufacturers for the most part - Revo Electric of Tipton for B or side roads and GEC, whose works were in Witton in the city, for main roads. The text notes that by 1937 the bulk of the main road lighting was in place and the city had used the Birchfield 'box' lantern as well as growing numbers of Difractors both on modified tram poles and steel columns. By the 1960s the replacement for these, on new steel columns, was the GEC Clearmain Z8420 and later models, that the city used by the thousands. Seen here is a road that was once very familiar to me as we lived just a ong and to the left from here - this is, I am sure, Bristol Road looking towards Selly Oak from Pebble Mill Rd with the abandoned tram reservation in the centre. But, on second thoughts and chatting with a pal who grew up at 1022 Bristol Road we think this is looking towards Northfields beyond Selly Oak!
This would have used the 400 watt lamps at 90' intervals and this is a 'very' Birmingham look.
I made a modified skoodlet to use while wearing Arlo. It allows me to close my jacket around him and keep my hands warm, and it has a hood for him. More info on Ravelry.

Equipped with a Pulsar Charger engine, this modified speeder bike is a favorite of Jin Efrit, captain of the Misfortune. Built using salvaged pieces from old M:Tron vehicles, this speeder is fast and maneuverable.
Dennis Meriel's NSX Cover, Houston, TX, 2011
We were told no rig shots for the cover and to keep it simple for the shoot and that's what we did.
This was taken on the last day of our coast trip this summer. We stopped by Fort Clatsop just a little bit before close, and, true to Oregon Coast weather, it got really dark with cloud cover right about the time of this musket demonstration.
I knew, going into this shot, that I was probably going to be underexposed a bit, and I was fine with that. Now that I see the high contrast between the smoke from the muzzle, the white linen shirt, the few bits of sky visible through the thick forest, and everything else, I am very comfortable with the low-lighting.

While I was searching the Hoop Love pool for a pattern, I came across this sea scene submitted by user bcampell_to: www.flickr.com/photos/briancampbell/5118571319/. When I showed it to my boyfriend, he thought it'd be funny to have the seagulls attack a picnic rather than a wave. Cue a few minutes search, when I found this pattern submitted by user rectangle: www.flickr.com/photos/rectangel/2314303997/
The major modifications include removing the car and bread from the picnic and the sea from the sea gulls. The picnic blanket is in back stitch, whereas the original called for running stitch. I added in some more grass to help cover the spot the car occupied and took out a few flowers and grass where they conflicted with the seagulls. I also only used three of the original five seagulls.
This is the first vintage pattern I've sewn, and it was quite fun! There is a lot of detached chain stitches in this piece, as well as a nod to me and my boyfriend (it's incredibly subtle.)

An oil well near one of my favorite birding haunts near Greeley (Latham Reservoir). Judging by the white wash on the oil well, he's perched here before.
I bought this Narin head from someone with the intension to turn it into a girl. I had no idea how she was going to look like because there is only one picture of the Narin 415 around. I modified the eyes to be more female. Hope you like her!
This is the plan... dark red, red & bright light orange

This is my entry for the Modified Machines LUGNuts build challenge. Its a 68' Pontiac GTO dragracer. This model is called "The Great One". Its not my overinflated opinion on the build, but rather...that is what they called the '68 GTO. They also called it a Goat...but...um...The Great One just sounds better.
