August 5

Man, my back was KILLING me this morning. I ended up not making scrambled eggs after all, which luckily for me was just fine–they wanted cereal anyway. I got my hairs cut at 10:30–my first time since Crosby came, so my lady there was all excited to hear about him while I painfully hunch-walked between the chair and the shampoo sink.

Right after that appointment, I had a Tesla appointment. A mobile service dude came out to the house to check out my door sensors. I felt bad for the guy out in the extreme heat working on that thing, so I hung out with him out there to keep him company. He was at the house for a couple of hours, and it looks like I’m still gonna have to take it in. Basically, all this heat (plus a black car) melted the adhesive that holds the sensor brackets in place. As a result, they’re just wiggly enough to cause a problem. He thinks the top sensor has the same issue (makes sense), but he can’t access that one without bringing the car in. Oh well!

October 29

It wasn’t until pretty much the last minute that I figured out how I wanted to handle today and tomorrow in regards to work time. Tonight was the big Apogee stop-motion shoot, so I knew coming in early would wreck my day. I also recognized that coming in tomorrow is going to wreck my day as well. So, this morning I tried some juice shots with Emily at Juice Lab–they were delicious by the way–and chilled at home until around lunch time. That’s when I headed into the office.

We got lunch at Champs and picked up the helmets and jerseys for tonight’s shoot. It’s a lot.

At around 6pm we loaded up for Apogee. As soon as the marching band finished rehearsing, we jumped into action, marking every jersey’s position on the field at every second of the video we’d be shooting. About an hour into that process, we realized there’d been a tiny miscalculation, and the solution we ended up with was starting over on the whole process. Each of the 22 jerseys (and 1 ball) had 10 positions to map out on the field before shooting could begin. Laptop in hand, I guided the others to each position, where they then dropped a piece of tape labeling the color and number of jersey and the second of video. I was really wishing we’d gotten the source video earlier so we could’ve busted out our old marching band chops and made set sheets for each jersey.

By the time all 22 jerseys had 10 positions, we were pushing 9:30pm, but it was time to shoot at last! Somehow I was enlisted to run the camera up in the press box while everyone else manually scooched everything frame by frame. I watched from on high as everyone else endured the backbreaking work of recreating a football play frame by frame. Every frame we shot took anywhere from 1m15s to 12m to complete, depending on where we were. Each person on the field was responsible for 6-8 jerseys and helmets, many of which did not stay anywhere near each other as the play went on.

Main takeaway from tonight’s shoot: BOY ARE FOOTBALL FIELDS BIG!

We finally wrapped and had tail lights by 2:30am. A couple people came close, but nobody threw up! It is worth noting that at least one of us (Ahna) came out despite being sick, and another one of us (Michael) had to leave at 1am because he has a shoot tomorrow morning. It was a brutal shoot, but Chris, Ahna, Ranjani, Michael… You guys are badasses! Great work tonight everybody.
