I finally finished the model kit I got for Christmas! It was fun, especially since the instructions were all in Japanese...

Week 2 - Part 3

19 Sept 2017.

Paint preparation and planning - continued.

Lindberg model kit of a lifesize human skull. The top comes off and I put a light inside.

I've assembled several Gundam model kits before but this was the first time I took it a bit further than just piecing it together. I went in and did some basic paint work and line detailing. unfortunately there is a piece missing from the forehead assembly and one of the "spikes" of the yellow part in the forehead assembly has been broken off due to transportation and storage. I had put this together a while back and moved since then. Just recently I had the urge to do more with it and gave it a proper photo session. Since it is a little damaged, I'm thinking of making it into a battle damaged project in the near future.

The set up I used was 2 desk lamps, a couple of soft boxes that I fashioned out of cardboard and the tissue paper usually used to stuff gift bags, and a flat black poster board that I smeared gold glitter craft glue on.

Lunar Landing Model Kit: Comic Book Advertisement (Mattel/Monogram) 1970

*Appeared in: The Three Mouseketeers: Comic Book Issue No. 2, July-Aug 1970 (DC National Comics)

I really liked the art on this box, so when I was about 13 I cut out the painting, framed it, and hung it on the wall of my room. I did save this box end, for some reason.

Bandai 1/72 X-Wing

Ever since I was a kid, I've loved Jeeps, and a great deal of that has to do with Jurassic Park.

This isn't the exact model (Wrangler YJ) that was used in the film, but is the Wrangler Rubicon in 1/25th scale.

I painted it up and applied some mud (acrylics mixed with white glue, and pastels). I also made it so the doors open, which was not included in the model. I had to cut the doors off and use some small hinges (from a cheap pair of sunglasses) to make the doors actually function. If I do another, I'll do this again, and make the trunk area open too.

I added a copy of The Daily Sentinal blowing in the street on my Green Hornet model kit. The headline screams "GREEN HORNET STRIKES AGAIN". Of course Mike Axford of the Sentinal wrote the story. He's been out to get the Hornet for years you know. If he only knew his boss Britt Reid was really the Hornet.

A fine 1/48 scale kit of a two-place biplane designed to supersede the De Havilland Tiger Moth. The decals are quite snazzy!

Unopened cold cast porcelain kit of the classic Chaney Wolfman. Never opened it... thought it would do someone else some good. Got a repro of the Aurora kit - much more retro.
