1/20 scale Wave SF3D Leopard model kit box

Alien model kit by MPC c. 1979

This is basically a pre painted model kit that I repainted using the CGI renders as reference. The model itself is one of the most accurate looking figures (or even statues for that matter) of the Bay-verse Optimus Prime, so adding a paint job just makes it look spot on. The truck parts were coated using an automotive clear coat, so it's super shiny.

Finally I added light up eyes, which really seal the deal and bring this guy to life!

The blades are removable by removing the forearm panels and he also features a interchangeable faceplate (regular mode with mouth and battle mode)

Just for the record, this model is almost the same size as ROTF leader class Prime and a little taller than MP-10.

Shows today's progress after 3 hours of work on a Sunday morning.

Bought some more panel liner and several different types of Vallejo paints recently in Halifax.

Mainly worked detailing the sides of the ship today.

Then put it together without glue for a test fit to see how the sides match the top.

Also did some gluing of Han, Chewie, and the gunner. There seems to be 1 gunner missing in the kit.

The last bit of this video shows the partially fit together ship on a lazy Susan rotating around in front of the camera.

The sides were painted separately from the top and bottom, but they match pretty nicely.

Part of the ramp seems to be missing too -- will have to look carefully for that to see if I can find it.

This 1989 retro kit that I got on eBay is not as detailed as the modern, perfect grade kit from Bandai, so I'm painstakingly painting a lot of different layers and details on all parts of the hull to make up for it. I think the results are pretty good. Just doing the panel liner, and then the panel edging with silver necron compound seemed to take forever.

There's parts of the landing gear missing from the kit too, so I decided to steal some identical parts from my old 1979 version of this kit that I made when I was a kid and bash the two retro kits together.

To be honest, I've completely lost track of how much time I've put into this model since September when I bought it from a guy in Florida.

My ex-boss, who is also a big Star Wars fan, tells me I should sell it for $1000 or so when I finally finish. No way.

I took this to see what the colour difference looked like when near each other and taken by a camera. The Centurion is Humbrol 72 while the M51 Isherman is Humbrol 84.
