Richmond’s historical connection with the sea was celebrated at the 13th Annual Richmond Maritime Festival, a free family event at a National Heritage Site.
Over two days, land lubbers and sea-goers of all ages enjoyed activities that delight one and all. Discover local lore, visit beautiful wooden boats, create works of art, bring your picnic blanket and enjoy the tasty treats. Take in music, painters, wood carvers, potters, stilt performers, puppets, story tellers and much more!
The Richmond Maritime Festival celebrates all things waterfront at the Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site. From wooden boats to model boats, water safety to sea creatures, local lore to fishing history, the festival invites visitors to explore a spectacular heritage site and enjoy music, games, interactive exhibits, roving performers, food and much more.

The apartments in the rear are on Fifth Avenue. At third building from left, above top middle window is the red-tailed hawk's nest where the celebrity hawk Pale Male lives. I marked it with a yellow balloon. They often leave and fly over into Central Park where they mostly hangout.

3 patters for building a wonderfull wooden pull toy.
This little boat really moves, it is the perfect weight and size for a child to pull and will skip over the water at a good rate of speed.
Visited the Yale Peabody museum on Saturday, and saw their Egyptian collections. This model boat was interesting — grave goods? servants for the afterlife? Interesting that it lacked a sail or oars; maybe the commissioner ran out of money.

These little "putt-putt" boats run on Olive Oil, they produce steam and self propel across our boating pond.
I made these little model boats from pieces of driftwood found on various beaches around the UK. The hull has not been worked in anyway other than by the sea, and of course I 'dry brush' painted them.
The small copper nails the rigging and anchors are attached to were found in Conwy Harbour. They are pieces remaining from some old boat which rotted away there over time.
The masts are twigs and the sails are leftover packaging. The flags are made from scrap copper pipes from my house and the anchors are bits of copper wiring.
