This is a Maple and Walnut lamp shade mock up. I'm creating a new process to allow me to quickly create unique and interesting wood lamps.
Strike rail supports are set up, just need to get some 1/2" copper tubing to replace the current 1/4" braided wire ring
After watching John work like a creep for a moment and a half too long, he stopped sculpting to come up to me and see if I had any questions. We got to talking about how they do the planning for these massive floats (made of styrofoam).
Here is what I learned: They make a smaller scaled mock up, free hand first. Then it is cut into a grid of interlocking pieces. The big chunk of styrofoam has a similar grid drawn onto it and then you sculpt row by row using a projector to help blow the 2d plans up to scale.
