Now Playing Start of something good

You never know when you're gonna meet someone

And your whole wide world, in a moment, comes undone

You're just walking around then suddenly

Everything that you thought that you knew about love is gone

You find out it's all been wrong

And all my scars don't seem to matter anymore

'Cause they led me here to you

I know that it's gonna take some time

I've got to admit that the thought has crossed my mind

That this might end up like it should

And I'm gonna say what I need to say

And hope to God that it don't scare you away

Don't want to be misunderstood

But I'm starting to believe that

This could be the start of something good

Everyone knows life has it's ups and downs

One day you're on top of the world

Then one day you're the clown

Well, I've been both enough to know

That you don't wanna get in the way when it's working out

The way that it is right now

You see my heart, I wear it on my sleeve

'Cause I just can't hide it anymore

I know that it's gonna take some time

I've got to admit that the thought has crossed my mind

That this might end up like it should

And I'm gonna say what I need to say

And hope to God that it don't scare you away

I don't want to be misunderstood

But I'm starting to believe that

This could be the start

'Cause I don't know where it's going

There's a part of me that loves not knowing

Just don't let it end before we begin

You never know when you're gonna meet someone

And your whole wide world in a moment comes undone

I know that it's gonna take some time

I've got to admit that the thought has crossed my mind

That this might end up like it should

And I'm gonna say what I need to say

And hope to God that it don't scare you away

I don't want to be misunderstood

But I'm starting to believe

Oh, I'm starting to believe

That this could be the start of something good

Yeah yea, the start of something good

Yeah yea, the start of something good

Yeah this could be the start of something good

I discovered this handsome gentleman cooling off from the midday Sun. He agreed to pose for me and as I directed him where to stand with my finger, he misunderstood me and looked down to where I was pointing. I quickly shot off three shots and the first one was the best.

Peyton Scott Russell was one of the earliest artists who created murals at the time such actions were viewed as vandalism. I find this one with a strong message to be very poignant.

About this mural:

2020 Aerosol and Latex Mural 20’ x 20’ RISE UP, a strong yet gentle gesture for human rights recognition for Black people. A Doritos-sponsored campaign to #AmplifyBlackVoices and Black Lives Matter support.

Styles used: graffiti

Location: 912 West Lake Street, Minneapolis, MN 55408 US

Minneapolis-based artist, Peyton Scott Russell, was first introduced to graffiti art in 1984 through the film, Style Wars. Peyton has a B.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and for over three decades has been a professional artist and arts instructor, facilitating numerous community mural projects and arts education programs. Through his current arts program, SPRAYFINGER®, Peyton manifests his mission to increase awareness of graffiti as a teachable art form by working with schools, teachers, and artists on curriculum design, outlines, and lesson plans to deepen the understanding of a long-misunderstood art form. Ah! ----- sorry I misunderstood what you meant by "helping people that want to commit suicide".

25 July 2025,

The Samaritans are planning to close more than 100 branches across the UK and Ireland, the BBC has learned.

In a presentation to staff, the suicide prevention charity's chief executive said "at least half" of their branches will close.

Dozens of branches have voiced concerns, some fearing the proposals will lead to an exodus of volunteers: "They're dismantling something that has worked for 70 years," said one volunteer.

The Samaritans said having more than 200 branches "is not sustainable and hinders us" from providing the best service.

Founded in 1953, the Samaritans focus on preventing suicides by connecting trained volunteers with people who are struggling.

--------------------

Well I suppose if it's a telephone service you probably don't need any branches, just an office to run the business.

Heavy is the head perched upon the brachiosaurus-long neck. Rarely do I meet an individual who is fond of the Canada Goose (Branta canadensis). Even resolute bird-lovers seem to curl their lips when these large honkers waddle near. While it may be difficult to imagine today, since every time we step outdoors it's as if a Canada goose is waiting to greet us with a blat and high-feather-five, populations were dangerously low at the start of the 20th century. Laws were enacted to protect and even reintroduce them into parts of the country from which they'd vanished. Fast forward to 2015 and they can be found in every continental North American state and province at one time or another. And they're like a good episode of Cheers...everyone knows their name.

(aka 'And You are All in Me', aka 'Pride is about no Prejudice at All')

"In the tangled web of life, identity is in the eye of the beholder — shaped by what we see, what we choose to understand, and what we refuse to let go."

(Hubert Crackanthorpe)

PS: Yes, A., I read your sensible words — not out of obsession, but because I read everything. It’s what I do, professionally and personally. From tabloid headlines to lofty sonnets, from SeraphimSL to the MLA Handbook — and yes, when someone I cared about deeply for ten years writes something, I notice. I don't obsess. Promise.

You say it’s not about me, and I believe that. 569 % (three digits, always). I didn't even think it was. Because I am a reader. A close reader even. Still, silence between us speaks louder than words ever could. And your PS did include me in some way. Isn't that telling? The irony is not lost on me. Nor is your care. Thank you for that. And a thousand other things.

I’m not here to debate or to reopen anything. Just to say: I understand how it feels to be misunderstood. Marginalized. Labeled as ‘insane’ or 'evil'. And if my presence — even as a silent reader — ever felt like a judgment, it wasn’t meant that way.

Sometimes we read because we still care. Even when we’re no longer part of the story.

That’s all. Really. I am glad you and M. invite others to reflect and even communicate. And that is not sarcasm. While I reflect on us (unavoidably), I do not want to make this about us. I wish you and M. happiness. More than you can probably imagine. It’s not some twisted sense of ego that made me craft this. It’s love. For anyone. Always. The 'beautiful man' (who can rage like a savage, true). Your words, not mine. Remember him? The time has come to honor those words. So this is for you guys. And the love you have. All the way. Be well. Be very well. Ave atque vale.

PS2: Buns: thank you for helping me with this while you wanted some more beauty sleep. God knows you don't need any of that anyway. Kali: order us some food. And all of you out there: the next picture will be totally insane and about nothing specific at all. Or about the ladies & me. Because that's how we roll.

And don't make others miserable. Or I will come haunt you. 👻

A., You know I am all about the mood woven by notes and words, not the exact lyrics: Beck - Lost Cause

Bonus track, because A. is right. Or rather: love is always right. So love ALL the colors of the rainbow: The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - This Love Is Fucking Right

George Segal, who taught sculpture at Princeton from 1968 to 1969, was commissioned in 1978 by Kent State University to create a memorial to the four students killed by members of the National Guard during an antiwar demonstration on their campus. Segal found a metaphor for the tragedy in the biblical story of Abraham and Isaac. In Segal’s version, Abraham, dressed in contemporary clothing, looms over a college-aged Isaac, who is stripped of his shirt and bound with rope. Kent State University officials refused it, interpreting it as a politically volatile depiction of murder. According to Segal, however, this group misunderstood the memorial: the theme, in Segal’s words, was “the eternal conflict between adherence to an abstract set of principles versus the love of your own child.” Segal selected Princeton’s site for the sculpture, near the University Chapel, to reinforce the work’s biblical associations.

She stared from the window as the cab turned the corner; her expression a cascade of memories and uncertainty. But now she was free; free from the tyranny of a life misunderstood. Blood might well be thicker than water but it can make you choke; and spirit should never collapse under the weight of blood; of bloodless emotion. Heart will set the sprit free. Have courage.

Azures are the most misunderstood and possibly the hardest butterflies to identify correctly.

I have pondered over this one azure since I photographed him. It is my first sighting this year of such a snowy-white azure and I have concluded that this individual is the very special Appalachian Azure (Celastrina neglectamajor). It has all the right ID hallmarks: chalky white color, large size, hind wings with a clear white fringe. Further, the location and the flight time also point to the Appalachian Azure.

The only other azure with similar markings and snow-white color would be the second brood of Summer Azure. But, it is too early for the second brood and also, the white of the Summer Azure has a milky sheen and is not chalky matte.

The Appalachian Azure is single-brooded and flies between the two broods of the Summer Azure. This species is a host plant specialist using exclusively Black Cohosh (Actaea racemosa) as its host plant. On this date the Black Cohosh plants looked at the appropriate growth stage for this butterfly.

After a long thought I had a couple of titles for this photo but after doing a little research my preferred one was inaccurate (I had misunderstood the meaning) and another one was too bleak. (Literally) So I thought I'd stay safe and just say "Have a good and safe Christmas folks!" Who'd have thought we'd still be here more than a year on? The photo was taken by remote control using my phone linked to my camera on a tripod in Ruislip Woods.

[ENG] The Palacio de Carlos V is a controversial and misunderstood monument located in the Alhambra next to the Nasrid Palaces. It is often presented as an attempt to destroy the Muslim past of insensitive Spanish monarchs, although history shows the value of the symbol they gave to the conquest of Granada and their intention to reinforce the sense of capital by establishing their residence in the Alhambra. It was built at the southern end of the Patio de los Arrayanes, and for its construction the pavilion opposite the Comares tower was demolished. It was projected by Pedro Machuca as a square 63 meters on each side with a circular patio inscribed in its interior of 30 meters in diameter, an unprecedented arrangement in Renaissance architecture. It consists of two floors and its height is 17 m. Its construction began in 1527, was slowed down several times, and was definitively interrupted in 1637 with walls and vaults completed due to lack of water cover. The works were completed in 1930. Since 1958, the palace has been the headquarters of the Museum of Fine Arts of Granada, and since 1994 also the Museum of the Alhambra. More photos in the album Palacio de Carlos V.

Taken on an Autumn evening with a "toy" lens on a tiny camera: the 04 TOY LENS WIDE on a PENTAX Q.

The lens has a focal length of 6.3mm, equivalent to a 35mm lens on "full-frame". The aperture is fixed at f:7.1, focussing is manual.

Don't expect detailed sharpness - or sharpness of any kind - this is a so-called "toy" lens! But it's fun to use and can produce some lovely images. This shot should give pleasant viewing at normal distances on full screen, however I can't recommend pixel-peeping!

***The PENTAX Q "Toy lenses" are tiny manual-focus primes with a fixed aperture. They were rather misunderstood and never caught on. I think that's a pity. If one takes the trouble, they can give beautiful results. They are not really toys, and are anything but simple to use well. As with any equipment, you have to recognise the possibilities and respect the limitations.***

Viola (flowering spring - summer - fall) is a flower language very diverse and often misunderstood. Next colors, this flower can express the passion of love, fidelity, desire, love or sadness emerging

La pensée (floraison printemps - été - automne) est une fleur au langage très diversifié et souvent méconnu. Suivant ses couleurs, cette fleur peut exprimer l’ardeur de l’amour, la fidélité, le désir, un amour naissant ou la tristesse

The plane is actual size - it’s everything around it that got much bigger……….

Something different for a change. Grabbed a few pictures while at the Fox Valley Aero Club in St, Charles. Obviously (or maybe not obviously) this is a radio controlled scale model. I asked it's owner what scale this is but I must have misunderstood him. Thought he said 1/5 scale but one-fifth scale would be much larger than this.

Btw - Is it me or my computer or is there a problem with flickr? Most all day today pictures are very, very slow to load up. Maybe it's the 100º heat and humidity....................

Smile on Saturday. I misunderstood the theme , no objects.

Then only just for fun

Are you really reading this? Aren’t you –like most of them– in a hurry to see the next picture or do the next thing? No? Ah well. Pardon me, my friend, I misunderstood your intentions. Well then, turn your monitor brightness up and come sit by me. Listen into the night whose sovereignty over the land is mutely interrupted by the gibbous moon rising behind those ageless Cathedrals. The air is impregnated with a thick fog, which is trying desperately to melt into someone’s song. There are no birdsong here; they are asleep. Instead, amplified by the quiet, you can hear that timeless hymn hummed by your heart and those distant waterfalls. The zephyr, although well-intentioned, feels a little chilly to your skin. You shiver. Indeed, it feels a little chilly to perceive infinity. Don't worry. Here and now, time is not the fourth dimension anymore. You are.

You might be surprised, but this is not a flower – it’s a fungi, monotropa uniflora. One of its common names is Indian pipe. Wikipedia says it is quite rare; I’ve seen it in Ontario forests before several times – but never such a beautiful specimen.

From the “Ontario’s Old Growth Forests” book by Michael Henry and Peter Quinby: Indian pipe, one of the most misunderstood of our forest floor plants, establishes relationship with the forest mycorrhizae promising a share of the energy it captures from the sun in exchange for nutrients. Instead, it never photosynthesize – it simply steals nutrients from the trees and plants around it using fungal threads as conduits.

In case you are wondering, I have done quite a lot of postprocessing - but mostly on the background, trying to preserve the way the actual “flower” looked.

"You are troubled and misunderstood by those around you, and have gone through great hardship, but things are getting better soon..."

Celebrating National Pollinator Week with a photo of common milkweed, a beautiful but often misunderstood plant that is THE native wildflower to protect and plant in your yard if you want to give the Monarch Butterfly a big helping hand. Photographed in the La Crosse River Marsh.

So this is a indoor capture of a still life of something uniquely Indian - the autorickshaw,

(on India and its misunderstood depiction, the current Flickr blog has photos on mounds of "spices" as their theme. The 2nd photo appearing there is not even of spices but actually colored powder used for rangoli. If you think Flickr has daft contributors (their content team) with little knowledge and sucks real big time.........YOu are right ! .. You can never go wrong with flickr for their unique stupidity)

EDIT - 1953HRS IST - The Flickr blog has now been updated with a new entry on Dogs. 2 photo blog entries on a day ---- now that is unreal. If this in anyway contributed to lesser viewing of photos of the photogs whose entries were on that "spice" blog, please do not blame me for it !

A model of the 3 wheeled Bajaj autorickshaw makes a surprise appearance at a restaurant table in Pallolem in Goa where a child debates with some angst the chances of him having a Ozzie beer to go with the desi tuk tuk.

Pallolem is a lovely beach in Goa and far away from the vast hordes of "male" desi tourists who make a beeline for Goa in ugly Sumos and Tempos to have their fair share of the sun and water and the available ogleful square inches of female flesh.

So it is not too overcrowded but then the tourists from foreign lands are overflowing here.

In the winter of 2008 while I was there in Pallolem, the air and light were no good for photography. The food OK. Night parties too noisy.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir

Oil on canvas

57 x 47 cm

Museum Langmatt, Baden (Switzerland)

Currently at the exhibition "Cézanne, Monet, Renoir. French Impressionism from the Museum Langmatt" in the Lower Belvedere in Vienna.

www.belvedere.at/en/cezanne-monet-renoir

"... The Braid demonstrates that the Impressionists could paint in a technically proficient manner, even if they did not usually choose to do so. Realistic exactitude and the mirroring of nature held no interest for them. This, after all, was the pattern of the previous artistic style of realism, from which they wished to distance themselves. What fascinated them was the movement of light, changeability in nature, the luminosity of color. At the time when this picture was created (that is, between 1883 and 1887), Renoir was embroiled in a deep artistic crisis. He had embarked on Impressionism with great enthusiasm at a very early stage, significantly influencing this new painting style. [...] Now, however, everything was suddenly different; overshadowing doubts regarding Impressionism were having a crippling effect on his work. Renoir faced an economic as well as an artistic crisis. He began to recall classicist painting, in particular the works of Ingres: cool, knife-sharp portraits from the early nineteenth century. Renoir overcame this crisis in his painting career by examining the traditions of painting in order to redevelop his own perspective, and was successful in that, shortly afterwards, he made a confident return to the “soft focus” of Impressionism.

However, there is more to the picture’s background than this process of looking back and self-redefining. There is also the surprising (from today’s perspective) freedom it shows in deviating from the original subject; in fact, its apparent pleasure in the genesis of an ideal, fictional figure through “sampling.” To use a term from our own era, the portrait is nothing other than a loving “fake”: the model —the artist Susanne Valadon — was blond and blueeyed, with a fair complexion. She modeled in the studio, rather than in a natural setting. However, Renoir’s vision was different: he promptly transformed her into the “Italian” woman he required, giving her dark hair, skin, and eyes. There may also have been certain commercial considerations: at the time, realistic representations were in tune with the tastes of the audience, and promised better sales than the Impressionist artworks so misunderstood by the era."

"The broken are the more evolved" - The Beast

That is a quote from the incredible movie "Split" as spoken by "The Beast" played by the phenomenal James McAvoy. When The Beast sees the scars on Casey Cooke's (Anya Joy Taylor) arms and realises they are somewhat alike. The Beast sees the evidence of suffering upon Casey's skin. Ironically, self injury I always thought made the person lucky in one respect, their suffering is not invisible, why would I say that? Because depression unlike the expression of psychological trauma, is completely unseen.

And yes, I personally have and still do battle with depression, and yes, photography I found was the one and only thing that has a very powerful anaesthetising affect on my negative mindsets, which is why I loathe the Winter as I hate the cold. Funnily enough, Amateur Photographer Magazine ran an article on Mental Health & Photography, seems that there is very much a correlation between mental health and creative talents. For example, I knew a friend who was heavily Bi-Polar and yet he had incredible skills at weaving, floristry and making baskets, he was so quick at it as well.

My point of this is the following, depression is perhaps the most misunderstood mental health condition in the world. Many psychologists provide ineffective therapy, psychiatrists merely numb the pain with Big Pharma in their back pocket and many unqualified other's abandon those who suffer this infliction. If there is ever an expert on the subject of depression, it's the patients themselves, and thanks to the Elite's Global plan well underway, suicides are on the up.

There is one very invaluable thing you can do for someone who suffers from depression, show compassion. Absolutely show pure, bona-fide, unadulterated compassion, in its every endeavouring of the word in practice, put the person first, not your feelings, theirs and theirs alone, trust me, it's the best thing that can happen to them!

I Hope everyone is well and so as always, thank you! :)

I've been called many things

my writings commented with brazen

and spiteful words falling from a cloudless sky

with which the Sun continues to emblazon

my every day of fight and indelible hope;

a ray of warmth is indomitable without cause

to ostentation, for a nature lover is true

and humble, and never given to conceit or applause

how dare any anonymous being enter such a place

their accusations fly in the face of our common good

for appearances deceive, indeed a "poor" surface

never devalued a continuing history frequently misunderstood

a snap of embittered retortion from one

may glare from their mirror of enmity

though "quite poor" may my every effort be

I'm at least open without need for the cloak of anonymity

that some prefer to cowardly hide behind

criticism and impertinence; dwelling unknown,

but frequently ascribed to persons of low self-esteem

their cruel diatribes are vexing, yes, such hurt one cannot postpone

yet, vicious self-opinionated jabs open the vestibule

to the life of the bitterest pig-swilling kind

the soul who takes great joy in crucifying others

whilst never offering anything original from their life unassigned

they delve into sensitive creations of surviving spirit

running amok with their litigious demons

discharging unfriendly fire at will, life is cheap!

a pallescent legacy from the victims whose heart it summons

flush now these vile beings stealing our recovery way

my shortcomings are obvious with cards on the ground table still standing

no disguise no pretence, just another "poor" human being

for the perpetrator of unhappiness will forever rue the day of such branding.

for VT Strewth :) the source of bitterness.

I shall not be undermined or have my flickr diary of poem-photo-poem dragged through the mud by some non-entity on here.

VT Ruth shows how cowardly it is for "a flickr member" to wilfully go about shooting holes through any and everyone's prized work under the guise of anonymity. It is one thing to be critical of work, but quite another thing to be so personal and derogatory that it becomes libel. A lesson is be careful, be sensible, be clean, and be aware!!

We visited a place called Sandwich where we had a sandwich for lunch...what else would you eat there! My husband ordered a turkey and cranberry sandwich and I ordered a cheese and salad sandwich. The turkey sandwich came out, it was enormous, and we waited for mine, eventually the waitress came over and apologised explaining that the reason mine hadn't come out was because they had misunderstood the order and put the fillings for both sandwiches into one! I don't know why I didn't take a photo of it...it would have been much more interesting than this one! It was a miserable day (for photography) again today and the little pumpkin I bought the other day was still in the car so here it is...hitchin' a ride.
