Another Fantasy Faire post. I am feeling the dread creeping in. This amazing world that we fall in love with each year is wavering...soon to disappear into the mists and remain only in our memories.
Mire of Whispers is possibly one of my favourite regions at this year's Fantasy Faire. I keep finding myself lurking there in the magical bog by the sacred well with water that splashes beautifully if you happen to go for a paddle. The lighting at Mire of Whispers is really beautiful also and to top it all off I keep bumping into another magical creature there, in the form of Alexander Starlight of Starlight Designs.
I love bumping into people and making new friends at Fantasy Faire. Aside from the fact that this event is dedicated to such a great cause, I really love that it brings fantasy loving folk from across the grid together. It truly is such a magical event.

In the heart of the mire, where water whispers secrets long lost, rises a stone circle etched with forgotten runes. Beneath the shifting twilight, the echoes of ancient rites still hum in the air. None remember who carved them, but the spirits linger… waiting, perhaps, for one who dares to listen. (Richard and Sira)

A very foggy morning when we went to visit Emsworthy Barn back in December when the trees are completely naked of foliage.
Absolutely love the way the trees are defined in the fog!
It has been rainy; all snow is gone. - This photo was done moving camera, again. -In Explore 21.10.2009 #481

A typical bog, found along many different trails in Louisiana. Depending on rainfall, they are sometimes wet and sometimes dry. Only a couple of months ago, this spot was dry enough to walk on.
Image of Cors y Llyn (means Bog of the Lake) taken in November 2016.
The term 'mire', which is used to describe the kind of habitat found at Cors y Llyn National Nature Reserve, hardly sounds like an invitation to the wild and beautiful place that you will discover on a visit there at any time of the year.
A very old truck had been modified by Rube Goldberg, changing it from a ranch truck to tasks of winching and lifting. For decades, the abandoned truck has been sinking ever deeper into bentonite clay.
When Bob Maynard first saw this a year or more ago, he became intrigued by it, and he yearned to light it up for night photography. Mike Ryan and I joined him and I was amused by the idea of old, broken men paying tribute to an older piece of repurposed machinery.
This inspiring machine, made by Rube Goldberg himself when he was a miner, rests peacefully near the edge of bentonite clay badlands, at the site of a mine. Many of the parts are made of wood and they seemed to have weathered the caustic dust better than the metal parts. The 4 foot diameter wheel in the back is made of many layers of wood, making the wheel about 8 inches thick.
Several of us looked this over, trying to divine what its function was. We were not fully successful (not even close), but that shortfall did not take anything away from our appreciation of this one-of-a-kind truck/machine.
Graffiti artists have added some color and one or more persons added their touch by putting dozens of bullet holes through the doors.
This is not for sale and it is protected within the boundaries Capitol Reef National Park. This is a primitive part of the Park, accessible by either 25 miles of bone-rattling dirt road or by driving a short distance in the bed of the Fremont River and then through miles of Bentonite Clay and Mancos Shale (both of these become treacherously slippery after rain). But don't worry about the clay and shale--you probably won't make it out of the River.
Same trees as a shot from the other day, couldnt work out if I preferred the landscape or portrait though
The mirror images of the tree canopy on spring-fed Cypress Creek in Wimberley, Texas were particularly striking on this particular day.
