Мир-1В@canon 500d
A couple of mornings ago, I took my old Vivitar 220SL and loaded it with some Svema MZ3 film in order to shoot some images of the Rock River / Hennepin Canal area of Big Island, Milan. The connecting five image series are the results. This is Rt 67 bridge over the Hennepin canal at Milan, Illinois.
Svema MZ3 35mm film shot with a Vivitar 220SL with a MIR 1V 37mm lens / developed in caffenol.
Here is some of the lens I use. I got the Zenit about 4 or 5 years ago with the Helios 44M but I never did any picture with it! I usually use these lens mounted on my Canon EOS digital. The Zenit is pristine though, and I plan to use it for a new series of pictures.
Porst 135mm f/1,8: It is the only german lens, although conception is japanese. I believe this lens was sold under different name. In my opinion, this is my best M42 lens. Sharpness of pictures is amazing and the bokeh is beautiful, especially the transition between sharpness and blur. Surprisingly, focusing is not too difficult.
Helios 40-2 f/1,5: I have this lens for 5 or 6 years now. I was really looking for it. The principal appeal of this lens is the bokeh, especially if there is some scattered light source behind the subject. Quite heavy, and difficult to handle, focusing is a nightmare! I often prefer the Porst which is more usable, but the Helios can produce some really outstanding pictures if you know how to master it.
Peleng 8mm f/3,5: A very fun lens! Distortion is amazing! Bring that lens in a party with friend, and you'll have lot of success and fun. But in my humble opinion, this lens is far overrated. Construction is amazing, it's a heavy lens, and very tough. But the sharpness is not that good, and there can be some kind of bad reflection in corners. I got mine a couple of years ago, before all that fuss with M42 lenses, for a bit more than 100 euros. Today, it is far overpriced, and I would recommend the Samyang 8 mm for example (although Peleng works for full-frame, and Samyang is dedicated to APS-c).
Zenitar 16mm f/2,8: Very disappointing in my opinion: images are very low contrasted (notably at 2.8) et quite soft. The fisheye effect is rather weak, particularly on APS-c. Still, it is a compact, and well build lens. I keep it because it is convenient in some cases. Better use it on full-frame.
Mir-1V 37mm f/2,8: It's an interesting lens... It is very light and tiny, but still very well build. It can be used as a standard lens (as it is close to a 40 mm) or a wide angle (as it is close to a 35 mm). Resolution is very average, but it can still produce very nice picture. Bokeh is interesting and produce a nice "3D" effect. It is very difficult to use on a Canon 350D because for some reason the camera always overexpose pictures when mounted with this lens. Some people like this lens, other don't... I guess it depend on what you are looking for. A good thing: price is very very cheap.
Helios 44-M 58 mm f/2: A good lens, with a wide aperture. It is not spectacular, but it is interesting. I used it a lot, but today, I have far more interesting 50 mm, and I use it very seldom. Still, it is well build and produce sharp picture.
