Not far from the pond where I like to photograph dragonflies is a small swamp area. Because of thick underbrush, it is very difficult to reach.
Recently, I discovered that hundreds of egrets and herons have selected the area as a night roosting spot. In an effort to get closer to the roosting birds, I made my way through the thick underbrush and stumbled onto this scene.
It was too late in the evening to get a good photo of the egrets, but I did get this shot of the swamp. This is just the way it appeared in the late evening light. (no photoshop)
The water was almost completely covered with a mint green film. Dead trees and fallen tree limbs poked out of the green waters. The last amber rays of the evening sun washed the tops of nearby trees. I know it is an overused term, but the scene was "surreal."
Photographed at Bob Jones Park in Southlake, Texas on July 7, 2009.
Mint Julep, my Minty Magic Blythe. Finally received the shoe from the trade so I could photograph her. I like her stock clothes so I wanted to photograph her wearing it.
At Minter Gardens, there had been rain, but the weather was perfect for us -- cloudy, but warm -- great for walking and taking pictures!
Minter Gardens is just off B.C.'s Hwy 1 between Chilliwack and Hope. For anyone in the area who loves flowers, it should be on your 'must visit' list. (09-07-14-0742)
My mint is going crazy, luckily I love it's flowers too!

Twin Idol Goddess
Early Bronze Age, 2nd half of 3000 BC.
A double-figure idol found during excavations in Alacahoyuk, a prehistoric settlement of the Early Bronze Age, provides a sterling example of the legendary “mother goddess.”

Mom said don't plant mint in the garden, it's practically a weed.
No shit.
They're just off to the right, but I have a few inches separating Mr Mint from my basil and red pepper. That Mint's a sneaky bastard!
Towards the end of our photo walk, we encountered these very colorful, bright houses. Their inhabitants were equally bright and friendly.
