Silverton Museum is located in the old gaol buildings. Silverton was established in the 1880s after miners came to the region seeking silver. Lead and zinc was also found in the region. Most miners moved on to the larger centre of Broken Hill nearby and Silverton gradually dwindled towards becoming a ghost town. It has been maintained as a tourist destination. Located in far western New South Wales in Australia.

This old machine was sitting in the grass, fan blades turning fast and smooth as ever in the slight wind. What was it?
After a beautiful drive I reached my destination of Giltedge Montana. It's an abandoned mining town that contains amazing history--Calamity Jane liked to spend her time here!
"During 1900-1901 Gilt Edge was considered one of the best towns in the country. Gilt Edge reached its peak between 1908 and 1909. Calamity Jane, calling it her favorite, frequented Gilt Edge. On several occasions she spent time in their jail." -centralmt.com

Coober Pedy is a town in the arid interior of South Australia. It has developed a unique culture and appearance. Dominated by the earthworks of opal mining, many homes and businesses are underground to escape the extreme heat. The town is fiiled with unusual collections of mining history, junk, and props and sets from old movies.
Day One Evening: We set out for a walk into downtown Juneau from kelli's house. The way passes through this cemetery and it sure lives up to its name. Buried in this grave are two who drowned when the Canadian Pacific's Princess Sophia sank at Vanderbilt Reef Alaska on October 25, 1918.
The ghost town of Gwalia, just outside Leonora in the goldfields of Western Australia. Can you imagine living out here in the summer, working in the mine then coming home to a hot tin shack?
A tiny town we stumbled across near Grass Valley, CA. There were lots of adorable buildings, like an old-west Disneyland, but "No Trespassing" signs everywhere.
Someone's private roadside attraction, maybe?

Virginia City was founded in 1863 when gold was discovered in Alder Gulch. By 1864 there were 10,000 people mining in the area. After the gold rush, the town quickly declined. Today, Virginia City is mostly a tourist town, with a year round population of around 200.

Banská Štiavnica's old medieval mining centre grew into a town with Renaissance palaces, 16th-century churches, elegant squares and castles. The urban centre blends into the surrounding landscape, which contains vital relics of the mining and metallurgical activities of the past, like the world’s first technical university devoted to Chemistry, Physics and Mineralogy was founded here in 1762. UNESCO WHS description.

the old house with the red sign and the red lanterns that run pretty much the length of the staircase. it must be nice at night when they are all lit-up
The Talbotville Cemetery is the only remaining evidence of the town except for mine sites in the district.

Hermelinda Mamani Perlas, 18, and Roberta Mamani Perlas, 24. They live in the tiny vilage of Choroma (where Gervasio Vilca Vilca based his study on sexuality among young Quechuans) in the mountains above the mining town Santa Lucia. They have both lived with their partners for about a year.
