Happy Fence Friday

The rain was pouring down when we visited the historical mining town Røros, back in 2017! It was difficult to make photo's, while holding a large umbrella in one hand and my camera in the other.

Rails and codeline wire shimmer in the glow of Canadian National GP38-2W 4791’s headlights as it curves through Cobalt, Ont., on a gloomy autumn evening on the Ontario Northland Railway. After traversing multiple subdivisions across Canadian National’s network in northern Quebec earlier in the week, the train was now testing ONR’s entire system before eventually returning back to the CN at Hearst.

The house of the last resident of the boom town of Haynes, just one mile from Jerome,AZ. Haynes had a population of 300 in 1901,by 1914 that population was 14 and the post office was closed a few years later. This last resident was rumored to have lived to the ripe old age of 105....

Today, the town site is the location of the Gold King Ghost Town. It contains the last buildings from the original town, as well as buildings brought in from surrounding ghost towns. It is also the location of the owners collection of rust, including cars, trucks, buses, and other vehicles. I found it more of a ghost town than Jerome....

One of my favorite places to shoot isn't too far from Las Vegas Nevada in El Dorado canyon, near Nelson in the Mojave desert.

A old gold mining town now called Nelson was once called Eldorado by the Spaniards back in 1775. Techatticup mine was established in the area when prospectors and miners took over, a lot of the miners were deserters from the civil war. As most old gold mining towns this one has a unique history of death and violence. *watch for rattlers.....but be ready to spend the day if you have your camera..

It was a very cold, windy and spooky day to be in a ghost town.

The town of Rhyolite, Nevada sprang-up in 1905 after gold was discovered in nearby Bullfrog Hills. Two years later, the town had a population of 4,000 and soon boasted an opera house, a multistoried bank and a beautiful train station.

After the San Francisco earthquake and financial hard times, the major mining company left, most people left and by 1920 everyone was gone.

You can see the ruins of the bank and other buildings through the shack door.

Abandoned Methodist church in (ghost town) Bodie, a former mining town in the Sierra Nevada, California

Another panorama from my collection of shots from this Nevada ghost town, taken last June (2021). I'm thankful we were able to avoid getting sandblasted by this storm by taking refuge up in the hills.

Thanks for looking!

A rustic old wooden barn stands under a clear blue sky, showing wear and character from years of exposure in the ghost town of Bodie, California. The surrounding field adds a sense of tranquility to the scene.

Bodie, California is a town frozen in time and preserved by California State Parks in a state of “arrested decay.” Bodie became a State Historic Park in 1962 and maintains the buildings just as they were found when the State took over the town – but they do not restore the buildings, instead choosing to simply preserve the buildings in their aged and weathered 1880s appearance.

One of the original homes at Animas Forks Ghost Town, high in Colorado's spectacular San Juan Mountains. Sitting at 11,200 feet along the famous Alpine Loop Scenic Byway, Animas Forks was once a thriving mining community during Colorado's silver boom.

Today, the weathered cabins, old jail, and historic Walsh House remain as reminders of a time when life in these mountains demanded incredible determination. Exploring these buildings with a camera is like walking through history—every window, doorway, and sun-bleached board has a story waiting to be discovered.

This is one of my favorite stops on the Alpine Loop. No matter how many times I visit, I always find a new perspective and another piece of history to photograph.

when i shot this i originally thought i would use textures, but i rather like this "pure."

Georgetown, Colorado is one of the states' four original mining towns.

Chisos Mining Company ruins.

Røros is one of the oldest towns of wooden buildings in Europe and is located on a gently sloping plateau 628 metres above sea level. The city was founded in 1644 when the first copper ore was found in the area, and over the years, Røros became one of the most important mining towns in Norway.

Røros has retained much of its original character. The street pattern and farming properties in the centre of town are the same as were originally constructed in the 1600’s. Due to its authentic wooden buildings and unique character of an early mining town, Røros was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1980.
