Found this cool retro spot over near the small town (street) of Lowell, AZ. It was incorporated into Bisbee, AZ in the early 1900s. Lots of cool places to shoot out that way; especially at night!
In the preserved stillness of Bodie State Historic Park, this rusted automobile rests quietly among dry grasses and forgotten machinery, a relic of California’s gold-rush era slowly surrendering to time. Once part of a bustling mining town, Bodie now stands frozen in history — its buildings, artifacts, and landscapes offering a rare glimpse into the past.
The textures of oxidized metal, weathered wood, and high-desert light create a powerful visual narrative of endurance and decay. Under an expansive Sierra Nevada sky, this scene captures both the harshness and beauty of abandonment, where nature and history coexist in quiet harmony.

Darwin was named after Dr. Darwin French, who explored the area with prospectors in the 1850s. The town was founded in the 1870s after silver was discovered. Soon, the population grew to over 1,000. Today, about 50 people live in Darwin.
Bodie, California
Now a ghost town and California State Park, Bodie was once a rough and thriving gold mining town on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. According to the State Historical Park brochure it is estimated that only about 5% of the buildings remain from the town's 1877-1881 heyday. At it's peak, it is estimated that Bodie's population ranged from 7000-8000 people. The park is kept in a state of "arrested decay", meaning that the structures are repaired and stabilized, but not restored.

The Post Office has operated at this address since December, 1875. With the population of Silver Plume now just over 200, residents have had to fight to keep it open.

Our first trip out of Silverton, we went up the trail that leads to Cinnamon Pass. The views were pretty spectacular all along the way, and we stopped here to explore the ghost town of Eureka. Eureka was a silver mining town that ran from 1875 to 1942 when the post office closed for good.
The cabin in the picture made some people jealous because they had indoor toilet. The winters here are brutal getting up to 20 feet of snow at a time. An indoor toilet would've been a blessing during those storms. Waking up to this view every morning wouldn't be to bad either.

As we were driving out of Eureka, we stopped to take in this view of the valley looking back towards Silverton. You can see one of the old homes at the mine in the bottom right-hand corner of the picture. We continued on the drive up to Cinnamon Pass on the Alpine Loop Trail. The trail has amazing views like this one all along the roadway. We didn't need the four-wheel drive too much, mostly on the downhill side of the trip. I'm hoping to get back up there again soon.
A lengthy picket fence charges downhill toward an old barn in Humbug. All I could think about was paint--lots of paint plus a sore elbow, wrist, and back.

This little mining gem was found in my archives today. I took the image in Nevada City Montana while touring through the historic old mining town. At the end of the railway is the entrance to the boarded up old mine. Not far from this scene is a place where you can pan for gold. We opted for a walk-about instead.
This is my favorite corner in Humbug. Of course it's the only corner in Humbug, but never mind that. What I like about it, is the feeling that I've stepped back in time--an older time when the streets were crowded with miners going about their business, while they watched their dreams of riches evaporate in the cool mountain air. But ain't that usually the way it goes with most get rich schemes?

Bodie, California is a town frozen in time and preserved by California State Parks in a state of “arrested decay.” Bodie became a State Historic Park in 1962 and maintains the buildings just as they were found when the State took over the town – but they do not restore the buildings, instead choosing to simply preserve the buildings in their aged and weathered 1880s appearance.

When we left Missoula, we decided to take a detour off of Hwy 90 about 20 miles down the road. The route up to this high mountain valley was 10 miles of dirt road, one lane wide. We were just praying that no one would be coming down the road and we got our wish. Turns out there was another paved road up the other side and this was quite a popular spot. It was definitely worth going out of our way to see this blast from the past.

These wonderful, old /restored wooden houses and the church were painted by the Norwegian painter Harald Sohlberg in 1902. I love this motif.

Spent a few days in Queenstown, an old copper mining town in the remote west of Tasmania. This is a view of the main street under low cloud, as seen from our foggy window.
A weathered wagon anchors the foreground, its sun-bleached wood and iron-rimmed wheels standing as a quiet testament to the labor that once fueled Bodie’s boomtown days. Beyond it, the historic Post Office, the I.O.O.F. Hall, and the Bodie Miner’s Hall rise from the high desert landscape, their aged facades softened by time yet still echoing the resilience of a once-thriving mining community. Under a vast California sky streaked with wisps of cloud, the scene captures the haunting stillness and preserved authenticity that define Bodie State Historic Park — a place where history feels suspended between past and present.
The Knights of Pythias was a fraternal service organization with lodges across the United States. The Silver Plume KP building, as it is called now, was built in 1874. It has housed a number of enterprises over the years, including a coffee bar. The upstairs is a residence. Second photo shows the dog in the window.
