Gresham, Colorado was the original post office for points west, Riverside, Raymond, Ferncliff, Allenspark and points north. The area post office apparently had gummint funds to hang lath and have a nicely plastered interior, one of the few we've seen. The post office was almost certainly decommissioned after the new road was finished up the South St.Vrain from Lyons but a later logging operation returned it to use and probably sustained some men through the depression. The log post office was papered in depression era (1933) newspaper, predominantly the Denver Post mining sections.

We sought to save the remaining wallpaper with the digital camera. We set out for Gresham on a toasty day in December; my sandals were probably not the best footwear for the trek as we found snow on the flats around the old mining camp. There, hands have been at work pilfering souvenirs and broke into the other log cabin. There was also more newspapering lost in the last couple of years. Such is the mindset of some idiots who are not willing to share with the next folks. We only took photographs.

now that's rough'n it :)

Eric Fisher was a prominent Winster man during my 1950s childhood. He was also active in village life. In the late 1940s he lived with his family at Mount View, West Bank, quite near where my family lived on The Flat. Later on both our families were neighbours on Leacroft Road.

The three major manufacturers of off-highway mining trucks are Caterpillar, Komatsu, and Terex. Komatsu and CAT trucks I've seen elsewhere, but this was my first look at a Terex.

Terex at one time was owned by General Motors, but is now an independent company. That is a good thing because GM has fallen on pretty hard times of late.

This particular truck is an MT 3000 series truck with a hauling capacity somewhere between 150-200 tons (about the same as the CAT and Komatsu trucks here).

Not really mine, but an early birthday present for Jools, a 30th anniversary edition of Soul Mining. Both discs on 180gm vinyl, and sounding superb, includes artwork and a bonus 12" of remixes which sound stunning, which also does not feature the bloody plinky plonk of Jools bloody Holland.

-------------------------------------------------------------

This lavish boxset celebrates the 30th anniversary of The The’s major label debut album, Soul Mining, originally released in October, 1983. The re-packed and expanded version contains an authentic reproduction of the album, with newly remastered audio from the original master tapes (overseen at Abbey Road by Matt Johnson), as well as an extra 12” gatefold vinyl of alternative versions and remixes..

The remastered audio has also been dubbed from new vinyl test pressings recorded from Matt Johnson’s original 1982 Thorens TD-147 gramophone player using patent ‘Dubbed-From-Disc’ technology, obtainable via a download code contained within the boxset. The boxset also includes a unique ‘news-poster’ containing extensive notes written by Matt Johnson that detail the making of the album.
