The road from Ma'in Hot Springs to the Dead Sea - Jordan.
An exciting hard, dangerous road to drive, 15% road incline.
This video clip was recorded with a 4K Action Camera.
Warning: Poor Audio Sound.
1- The camera was fitted inside a (Water-Proof Housing) all
secured to the front bumper of a 4X4 Daihatsu.
Unfortunately, the camera was rattling inside the
Housing, hence the poor sound and a shaky video.
Full Video is about 10 minutes of recording.
2- After 6 minutes of continuous recording the image started
to be foggy. To minimize this effect (Special cloth Pads
must be inserted in the Housing around the Action Camera)
That is the first time for me to try a new method of drive
video recording.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_Bridge
Tower Bridge is a combined bascule and suspension bridge in London, England, over the River Thames. It is close to the Tower of London, which gives it its name.Name[›] It has become an iconic symbol of London.
The bridge consists of two towers which are tied together at the upper level by means of two horizontal walkways which are designed to withstand the horizontal forces exerted by the suspended sections of the bridge on the land-ward sides of the towers. The vertical component of the forces in the suspended sections and the vertical reactions of the two walkways are carried by the two robust towers. The bascule pivots and operating machinery are housed in the base of each tower. Its present colour dates from 1977 when it was painted red, white and blue for the Queen's Silver Jubilee. Originally it was painted a chocolate brown colour.[1]
Tower Bridge is sometimes mistakenly referred to as London Bridge, which is actually the next bridge upstream.[2] A popular urban legend is that in 1968, Robert McCulloch, the purchaser of the old London Bridge that was later shipped to Lake Havasu City, Arizona, believed that he was in fact buying Tower Bridge. This was denied by McCulloch himself and has been debunked by Ivan Luckin, the seller of the bridge.[3]
The nearest London Underground station is Tower Hill on the Circle and District Lines.
The nearest Docklands Light Railway station is Tower Gateway.
In the second half of the 19th century, increased commercial development in the East End of London led to a requirement for a new river crossing downstream of London Bridge. A traditional fixed bridge could not be built because it would cut off access to the port facilities in the Pool of London, between London Bridge and the Tower of London.
A Special Bridge or Subway Committee was formed in 1876, chaired by Sir Albert Joseph Altman, to find a solution to the river crossing problem. It opened the design of the crossing to public competition. Over 50 designs were submitted, including one from civil engineer Sir Joseph Bazalgette. The evaluation of the designs was surrounded by controversy, and it was not until 1884 that a design submitted by Horace Jones, the City Architect (who was also one of the judges),[4] was approved.
Jones' engineer, Sir John Wolfe Barry, devised the idea of a bascule bridge with two towers built on piers. The central span was split into two equal bascules or leaves, which could be raised to allow river traffic to pass. The two side-spans were suspension bridges, with the suspension rods anchored both at the abutments and through rods contained within the bridge's upper walkways.
Construction started in 1886 and took eight years with five major contractors – Sir John Jackson (foundations), Baron Armstrong (hydraulics), William Webster, Sir H.H. Bartlett, and Sir William Arrol & Co.[5] – and employed 432 construction workers. E W Crutwell was the resident engineer for the construction.[6]
Two massive piers, containing over 70,000 tons of concrete,[4] were sunk into the riverbed to support the construction. Over 11,000 tons of steel provided the framework for the towers and walkways.[4] This was then clad in Cornish granite and Portland stone, both to protect the underlying steelwork and to give the bridge a pleasing appearance.
Jones died in 1887 and George D. Stevenson took over the project.[4] Stevenson replaced Jones' original brick facade with the more ornate Victorian Gothic style, which makes the bridge a distinctive landmark, and was intended to harmonise the bridge with the nearby Tower of London.[6] The total cost of construction was £1,184,000.[6]
The bridge was officially opened on 30 June 1894 by The Prince of Wales (the future King Edward VII), and his wife, The Princess of Wales (Alexandra of Denmark).[7]
The bridge connected Iron Gate, on the north bank of the river, with Horsleydown Lane, on the south – now known as Tower Bridge Approach and Tower Bridge Road, respectively.[6] Until the bridge was opened, the Tower Subway – 400 m to the west – was the shortest way to cross the river from Tower Hill to Tooley Street in Southwark. Opened in 1870, Tower Subway was the world's first underground ('tube') railway, but closed after just three months and was re-opened as a pedestrian foot tunnel. Once Tower Bridge was open, the majority of foot traffic transferred to using the bridge, there being no toll to pay to use it. Having lost most of its income, the tunnel was closed in 1898.[8]
Tower Bridge is one of five London bridges now owned and maintained by the Bridge House Estates, a charitable trust overseen by the City of London Corporation. It is the only one of the Trust's bridges not to connect the City of London to the Southwark bank, the northern landfall is in Tower Hamlets.
The bridge is 800 feet (244 m) in length with two towers each 213 feet (65 m) high, built on piers. The central span of 200 feet (61 m) between the towers is split into two equal bascules or leaves, which can be raised to an angle of 83 degrees to allow river traffic to pass. The bascules, weighing over 1,000 tons each, are counterbalanced to minimize the force required and allow raising in five minutes.
The two side-spans are suspension bridges, each 270 feet (82 m) long, with the suspension rods anchored both at the abutments and through rods contained within the bridge's upper walkways. The pedestrian walkways are 143 feet (44 m) above the river at high tide.[6]
The original raising mechanism was powered by pressurised water stored in several hydraulic accumulators.Hydraulics[›][clarification needed]
The system was designed and installed by Sir W. G. Armstrong Mitchell & Company of Newcastle upon Tyne. Water, at a pressure of 750 psi, was pumped into the accumulators by two 360 hp stationary steam engines, each driving a force pump from its piston tail rod. The accumulators each comprise a 20-inch ram on which sits a very heavy weight to maintain the desired pressure.
In 1974, the original operating mechanism was largely replaced by a new electro-hydraulic drive system, designed by BHA Cromwell House. The only components of the original system still in use are the final pinions, which engage with the racks fitted to the bascules. These are driven by modern hydraulic motors and gearing, using oil rather than water as the hydraulic fluid.[9]
Some of the original hydraulic machinery has been retained, although it is no longer in use. It is open to the public and forms the basis for the bridge's museum, which resides in the old engine rooms on the south side of the bridge. The museum includes the steam engines, two of the accumulators and one of the hydraulic engines that moved the bascules, along with other related artefacts.
During World War II, as a precaution against the existing engines being damaged by enemy action, a third engine was installed in 1942:[10] a 150 hp horizontal cross-compound engine, built by Vickers Armstrong Ltd. at their Elswick works in Newcastle upon Tyne. It was fitted with a flywheel having a 9-foot diameter and weighing 9 tons, and was governed to a speed of 30 rpm.
The engine became redundant when the rest of the system was modernised in 1974, and was donated to the Forncett Industrial Steam Museum by the Corporation of the City of London.
To control the passage of river traffic through the bridge, a number of different rules and signals were employed. Daytime control was provided by red semaphore signals, mounted on small control cabins on either end of both bridge piers. At night, coloured lights were used, in either direction, on both piers: two red lights to show that the bridge was closed, and two green to show that it was open. In foggy weather, a gong was sounded as well.[6]
Vessels passing through the bridge had to display signals too: by day, a black ball at least 2 feet (0.61 m) in diameter was to be mounted high up where it could be seen; by night, two red lights in the same position. Foggy weather required repeated blasts from the ship's steam whistle.[6]
If a black ball was suspended from the middle of each walkway (or a red light at night) this indicated that the bridge could not be opened. These signals were repeated about 1,000 yards (910 m) downstream, at Cherry Garden Pier, where boats needing to pass through the bridge had to hoist their signals/lights and sound their horn, as appropriate, to alert the Bridge Master.[6]
Some of the control mechanism for the signalling equipment has been preserved and may be seen working in the bridge's museum.
Although the bridge is an undoubted landmark, professional commentators in the early 20th century were critical of its aesthetics. "It represents the vice of tawdriness and pretentiousness, and of falsification of the actual facts of the structure", wrote H. H. Statham,[11] while Frank Brangwyn stated that "A more absurd structure than the Tower Bridge was never thrown across a strategic river".[12]
Architectural historian Dan Cruickshank selected the bridge as one of his four choices for the 2002 BBC television documentary series Britain's Best Buildings.[13]
Tower Bridge is still a busy and vital crossing of the Thames: it is crossed by over 40,000 people (motorists and pedestrians) every day.[14] The bridge is on the London Inner Ring Road, and is on the eastern boundary of the London congestion charge zone. (Drivers do not incur a charge by crossing the bridge.)
In order to maintain the integrity of the historic structure, the City of London Corporation have imposed a 20 miles per hour (32 km/h) speed restriction, and an 18-tonne weight limit on vehicles using the bridge. A sophisticated camera system measures the speed of traffic crossing the bridge, utilising a number plate recognition system to send fixed penalty charges to speeding drivers.[citation needed]
A second system monitors other vehicle parameters. Induction loops and piezoelectric detectors are used to measure the weight, the height of the chassis above ground level, and the number of axles for each vehicle.[citation needed]
River traffic
The bascules are raised around 1000 times a year.[15] River traffic is now much reduced, but it still takes priority over road traffic. Today, 24 hours' notice is required before opening the bridge. In 2008, a local web developer created a Twitter feed to post live updates of the bridge's opening and closing activities.[16]
A computer system was installed in 2000 to control the raising and lowering of the bascules remotely. Unfortunately it proved less reliable than desired, resulting in the bridge being stuck in the open or closed positions on several occasions during 2005, until its sensors were replaced.[14]
The high-level walkways between the towers gained an unpleasant reputation as a haunt for prostitutes and pickpockets and were closed in 1910. In 1982 they were reopened as part of the Tower Bridge Exhibition, an exhibition now housed in the bridge's twin towers, the high-level walkways and the Victorian engine rooms. The walkways boast stunning views of the River Thames and many famous London sites, serving as viewing galleries for over 380,000 tourists[citation needed] who visit each year. The exhibition also uses films, photos and interactives to explain why and how Tower Bridge was built. Visitors can access the original steam engines that once powered the bridge bascules, housed in a building close to the south end of the bridge.
In April 2008 it was announced that the bridge will undergo a 'facelift' costing £4m, and taking four years to complete. The work entails stripping off the existing paint and repainting in blue and white. Each section will be enshrouded in scaffolding to prevent the old paint from falling into the Thames and causing pollution. Starting in mid-2008, contractors will work on a quarter of the bridge at a time to minimise disruption, but some road closures are inevitable. The bridge will remain open until the end of 2010, but is then expected to be closed for several months. It is hoped that the completed work will stand for 25 years.[17]
The walkway section of the renovation was completed in mid 2009. Within the walkways a versatile new lighting system has been installed, designed by Eleni Shiarlis, for when the walkways are in use for exhibitions or functions. The new system provides for both feature and atmospheric lighting, the latter using bespoke RGB LED luminares, designed to be concealed within the bridge superstructure and fixed without the need for drilling (these requirements as a result of the bridge's Grade I status).[18]
In December 1952, the bridge opened while a number 78 double-decker bus (stock number RT 793) was on it. At that time, the gateman would ring a warning bell and close the gates when the bridge was clear before the watchman ordered the lift. The process failed while a relief watchman was on duty. The bus was near the edge of the south bascule when it started to rise; driver Albert Gunter made a split-second decision to accelerate the bus, clearing a three-foot drop on to the north bascule, which had not started to rise. There were no serious injuries.[19]
Main article: Hawker Hunter Tower Bridge incident
On 5 April 1968 a Hawker Hunter FGA.9 jet fighter from No.1 Squadron RAF, flown by Flt Lt Alan Pollock, flew under Tower Bridge. Unimpressed that senior staff were not going to celebrate the RAF's 50th birthday with a fly-past, Pollock decided to do something himself. Without authorisation, Pollock flew the Hunter at low level down the Thames, past the Houses of Parliament, and continued on to Tower Bridge. He flew the Hunter beneath the bridge's walkway, remarking afterwards it was an afterthought when he saw the bridge looming ahead of him. Pollock was placed under arrest upon landing, and discharged from the RAF on medical grounds without the chance to defend himself at a court martial.[20][21]
In May 1997,[22] the motorcade of United States President Bill Clinton was divided by the opening of the bridge. Thames sailing barge Gladys, on her way to a gathering at St Katharine Docks, arrived on schedule and the bridge was duly opened for her. Returning from a Thames-side lunch at Le Pont de la Tour restaurant, with UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, President Clinton was less punctual, and arrived just as the bridge was rising. The bridge opening split the motorcade in two, much to the consternation of security staff. A spokesman for Tower Bridge is quoted as saying, "We tried to contact the American Embassy, but they wouldn't answer the 'phone."[23]
On 19 August 1999, Jef Smith, a Freeman of the City of London, drove a "herd" of two sheep across the bridge. He was exercising an ancient permission, granted as a right to Freemen, to make a point about the powers of older citizens and the way in which their rights were being eroded.[24] However, this was a hollow gesture as the so-called right is to drive sheep across London Bridge into the City of London, and Tower Bridge does not have its northern landfall in the City.[citation needed]
Before dawn on 31 October 2003, David Crick, a Fathers 4 Justice campaigner, climbed a 120 ft (37 m) tower crane near Tower Bridge at the start of a six-day protest dressed as Spider-Man.[25] Fearing for his safety, and that of motorists should he fall, police cordoned off the area, closing the bridge and surrounding roads and causing widespread traffic congestion across the City and east London. The Metropolitan Police were later criticised for maintaining the closure for five days when this was not strictly necessary in the eyes of some citizens.[26][27]
On May 11, 2009, six persons were trapped and injured after a lift fell 10 ft inside the north tower.[28][29]

Another new feature is the "progress bar" style disk space indicator on each drive in the "computer" window which changes color depending on capacity. The mouseover of a minimized taskbar window is clever as well. (desktop wallpaper is 'Un mare di ghiaccio' from kenyai's photostream).

I chose the latter! A peaceful setting I came across while walking the Sloan's Crossing Pond Trail with a view looking to the southwest. With the sun shining pretty much to my front, I decided to lower the angle of my Nikon SLR camera to minimize any sunlight streaks across my lens and focus on the pond and nearby trees to my front.

That Conrail westbound acid train descends the grade towards the Detroit River tunnel with its 36 cars. Since "Mile 27" informed me that this tunnel is on the bottom of a 1.6% grade, and having handled liquid sulphur trains, I'd guess that this stubby - and heavy - train would be wisely handled by starting down the grade from here at a very slow speed, then allowing gravity to take over. CN has instructions to that effect for handling trains down the similarly steep incline to the tunnel at Port Huron; I'm certain that the idea is to minimize or avoid using air brakes (friction creates heat) and to delay using power to go up the other side until it becomes necessary to avoid a stall. Tunnels are not nice places to have a fire or stall out!
With these photos, We wanted to say our word in fighting against plastic pollution. Let's keep our beautiful mother earth safe by minimizing plastic usage. 🌏 “Plastic pollution on land poses a threat to the plants and animals – including humans, it has the potential to poison animals, which can then adversely affect human food supplies. Some marine species, such as sea turtles, have been found to contain large proportions of plastics in their stomach. When this occurs, the animal typically starves, because the plastic blocks the animal's digestive tract.
Seabirds are also greatly affected. Seabirds often mistake trash floating on the ocean's surface as prey. Their food sources often have already ingested plastic debris, thus transferring the plastic from prey to predator. Ingested trash can obstruct and physically damage a bird's digestive system, reducing its digestive ability and can lead to malnutrition, starvation, and death.
Some compounds that are used in plastics, such as phthalates, bisphenol A (BRA), polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE), are under the close statute and might be very hurtful. Even though these compounds are unsafe, they have been used in the manufacturing of food packaging, medical devices, flooring materials, bottles, perfumes, cosmetics, and much more. The large dosage of these compounds is hazardous to humans, destroying the endocrine system. Exposure to chemicals such as BPA has been correlated with disruptions in fertility, reproduction, sexual maturation, and other health effects. “

We found this little guy hopping around in the back yard, looking and sounding pretty unhappy. Sometimes the hops were fairly long, a yard or so, but he was apparently unable to really fly. The male summer tanager I posted earlier seemed really concerned, coming around every few minutes. At least once he had an insect to feed the little one, who wandered around the yard until after dark. In the morning he was gone.
We felt like we should do something to help, but didn’t know what. The internet consensus seemed to be to minimize intervention, and there seemed to be a concerned parent around, so we just watched. Hope the little one survived.

The lighting was often difficult in the boneyard that night. There was a lot of ambient sodium vapor lighting.
Ordinarily, I try to minimize or eliminate the orange cast of the sodium vapor lights in my night shots, but in this one, I went the other way. I added lots of white LED light to the foreground, and ratcheted up the orange sodium vapor glow on the clouds, trying to evoke a sense of unseen calamity happening just out of the frame.

This L-188 Electra had to make a wheels up landing at its home base in Red Deer because of a landing gear failure. It made a safe landing and all were ok. Damage was minimized by the tank taking most of the impact. It will not likely be back this fire season, but no doubt will be operational for next year. Details as follows:

On a crisp Christmas Day, I decided to head out and try this shot, hoping that the sky was clear enough. This shot has to be done in winter to get the snow-capped mountains, ideally after some rain and on a weekend or holiday to minimize smog. All the conditions were right, but in post, I still had to increase the contrast behind downtown to reduce the smog.
I processed this as a three-shot HDR with basic adjustments in camera raw. I actually had the camera on auto white balance. It leaned blue, and I kept it because I liked the winter feel.
Afterwards, I did a little processing in Nik Color Efex Pro. Generally, I like to minimize post, but even the little processing I did tends to destroy the sky, so I had to mask out the Nik Efex on the sky.
Lastly, I did some sharpening with Nik Sharpener Pro. In retrospect, I might revise the photo and pull back the sharpening. It's always good to look back and see if something can be improved.

Another of those idyllic settings while walking the trails along and around the Talkeetna Lakes area. This was a view looking to the northeast. The first generation Subaru Impreza production run ran from 1992 to 2000 and offered in either front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) versions and as a four-door sedan or five-door hatchback (Touring). The car used a shortened version of the Legacy's floor plan. Subaru chose to continue their longstanding use of the boxer engine in the Impreza, which according to Subaru, their configuration of the engine inline with the transmission minimizes body roll due to the lower centre of gravity compared with offset engines in most other vehicles, and it was the Impreza that the company decided would be their weapon of choice in the WRC (World Rally Championships .With their rally operations run from Prodrive in Banbury. There have been since been seven noted versions of the WRX dating back from Subaru's original World Rally Cross staging vehicles. WRX versions (1992 to present) feature rally inspired technology, including all wheel drive, stiffened suspensions and turbocharged four cylinder engines. The STi versions were the high performance models, homologated for rallying and are labelled as versions 1 through to 6. These come in three different body styles; sedan, Coupé (type R only) and hatchback.
The UK proved an attractive, grey import market for high performance models. To counter the grey imports of high-performance Japanese variants, Subaru UK commissioned Prodrive to produce a limited edition of 1,000 two-door cars in Sonic Blue, called the WRX P1. Released in March 2000, they were taken from the WRX Impreza STI Type R lines and used for the P1. The P1 and Australian Subaru delivered WRX Impreza STI Version 5 were the only coupe versions of the WRX STI GC chassis to receive ABS. In order to allow for ABS, the DCCD was dropped. Engine output was boosted to 276 bhp and the suspension optimised for British roads. Options were available from Subaru consisting of four-piston front brake calipers, electric Recaro seats, 18-inch wheels and a P1 stamped backbox. Aerodynamically honed by Peter Stevens and based around a lighter / stiffer two-door bodyshell, the limited edition P1 had more in common with the legendary 22B than its lesser four-door Subaru Impreza WRX siblings.

Deadheading by cab to Franquet, the junction point between Chapais and Matagami subdivision and one of the last reachable point on the line, in order to relieve the "1st 581 crew" who ran the job from Senneterre to Franquet. The 2nd 581 crew boarded the engine and headed thru the darkness of the 61 mile-long Matagami subdivision toward the namesake town of 1500 or so souls.
Spotting the huge Matagami Mines Zinc plant was the first thing done after arriving in town and after relieved the needs of the mine and pulling the outbound loads, diesel fuel was delivered to the local dealer along with cement and empty woodchip cars for the other railway customers in town. At the same time, they collected the released cars and built their outbound train.
It's now early in the morning and after backing up the small train toward the subdivision's half moon, the crew of two went to bed at the local railway bunk situated no more than 100 feet from the idling 645 prime mover.
The return trip began a mere 6-hours after closing their eyes. Bunk was cleaned, handbrakes released and 9450 was soon on the move bound for home.
Rolling about a mile, the train was leaved on the main and light engine rounded the east leg of Matagami wye in order to grab those loaded gons of Zinc, prepared in the wee hours of the day. After a quick brake test and a call to the RTC for an OCS clearance, L580 was quickly on the move and out of town. They must bring back the train to Senneterre before expiring on the 12th hour law.
That day, a side trip was in order to serves Langlois Mine in Grevet,QC near the end of the active part of the Chapais subdivision.
Unfortunately, a single GP40-2 can't pull all the collected cars over that hilly track profile and trafic were leave into one of Franquet back track.
And now we are, watching the diminutive train, racing back toward Senneterre yard before reaching the 12th hour of work, throttle in 4th notch dodging a "run in" from the loaded cars behind on a cloudy late afternoon day in Abitibi.
It's believe that harsh active forest fires in that area completely destroyed many parts of CN Chapais and Matagami subdivision. Damage are still unknown at this time as a part of Senneterre and Lebel-sur-Quévillon cities are stil evacuated and more than 80 fires are still active in Abitibi part of Québec.
For now, Quévillon and Matagami didn't saw active rail service since more than two weeks. CN abolished the "SM Pool" in Senneterre and trafic bout for these trackage was stacked in Senneterre yard.
Also, Matagami Mine closed their Matagami operation in June 2022 ending an operation who began in 1963. With CN's biggest customer out of town and possibly miles and miles of damaged track and structure on the line, many advanced the fact that it may be the end of the Matagami subdivision.

10 years ago when my son was 9 years old we started building rocket. First small low power ones. Then they became bigger over time. And even bigger. A few years back my son wanted to launch a high power rocket. He was too young, so he asked me to get the high power certification so that he can fly. I passed level 1, and he built and flew a high power rocket. As soon as he was 18 he started working on his high power certification. Last year he did level 1 and 2.
Now we are working on his level 3 rocket. This is a so called minimum diameter rocket, where the airframe is built as slim as possible, just so that the motor can slide in. This minimizes drag, which results in higher speed and higher altitude.
This rocket will go supersonic. With this speed there is a lot of stress and heat on the fins. To strengthen the fins he applies layers of carbon fiber and epoxy on top of the glass fiber airframe and fins. When the epoxy is still wet he puts a special perforated film on top, then a layer of absorbing felt cloth. The whole fin section is then enclosed in a vacuum bag, then all air is sucked out. With this, excessive epoxy is sucked through the film into the felt, resulting in an optimal ratio of carbon to epoxy for maximum strength. Once dry, the carbon fiber surface is sanded, and then coated with a special epoxy. The tip of the fins will be coated in a special ceramic so that there will be no temperature damage.
The initial flight with a "small" motor will propel this rocket up to 25,000 feet, this will be his level 3 certification flight. Knock on wood! An altitude like this is too high to legally fly in California, so we will go to the Black Rock Desert in Nevada in September to launch the rocket.
Later we plan to launch it with a big M motor; the flight simulation reports 50,000 feet - much higher than commercial aircrafts. Top speed will pass Mach 3!

A prince amongst thornes dreaming away the noonday heat...
Because the prospects of still finding Bufotes viridis, Alytes obstetricans or Pelobates fuscus this year are looking quite grim, I'm even more delighted to finally – at the third try this year – have found Hyla arborea in the field.
More specifically I saw two subadults plus the adult shown above and heard four or five further individuals' soft summer calls from the same blackberry hedge. On the hottest day of the year the tree frogs were still sitting on the sun-exposed side of the hedge, though on shaded leaves and twigs. This individual displays the typical resting pose with fingers and toes shuffled under the body to minimize fluid depletion while sunbathing.
I'm not so sure about the digital processing on this one, maybe it's pitched a bit too warm? On the other hand, it was quite warm that day.^^

Long exposure centered on the south pole region. The bright patch to the upper left is the Milk Way, and the smaller patches of light (lower left, and centre) are the Magellanic clouds. Total time was approximately 23 1/2 minutes, and it was stopped down to f/16 in an attempt to minimize light pollution.

The Hong Kong Port connects to the HZMB from a site with approximately 130 hectares of reclaimed land. The port’s Passenger Clearance Building (PCB) is iconic, with aesthetically striking architecture. Its long span curved roof mimics the surrounding sea and offers unobstructed views. Its skylights filter natural light to minimize power usage for the whole building. Tree-like columns support the roof and provide an airy feel inside.
Given the project’s proximity to the airport, our team had to overcome airport height restrictions and limited space onsite, together with the mandate to complete the PCB in 30 months whilst the whole Port was to be completed in about four years. The design and construction of the PCB roof were the most notable innovations to meet these challenges.
Its key features include:
•The integration of BIM and 3D scanning. In 2014, the use of digitalization in civil engineering was still in its infancy in Hong Kong. By overlaying the complex roof design and as erected models, any out of tolerance areas could be readily identified and rectified.
•Pre-fabrication of a total of 81 roof segments, with all necessary fittings and building services including pre-installed MEP completed offsite, form the roof that stretches to the size of nine FIFA football pitches. The largest segment measures 61 meters x 25 meters and weighs 680 tons and remains the largest and heaviest spatial structural frame for a building as of 2022.
•First ever use of installation by vertical lifting and then horizontal jacking of this scale in Hong Kong. This not only overcame the space and height limitations but also allowed parallel construction of the concrete works below to accelerate project time. On-site safety was also enhanced by the subsequent reduction in the need for working at height.
Since then, innovative construction methods, including Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) and MiMEP, inspired by Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) have become important elements in Hong Kong’s construction industry.
Sustainable features at the Port such as the District Cooling System, and the use of treated effluent from the onsite tertiary sewage treatment plant for toilet flushing helped earn the project two platinum and one gold BEAM Plus awards.
The port also contains other associated infrastructure and auxiliary facilities, such as:
•Cargo clearance facilities
•Road network
•Transit interchange
•Traffic control surveillance system
•Accommodations for frontline departments such as Immigration and Customs and Excise
Awards and Recognition:
•HKIE Grand Award 2023 – Grand Prize (Infrastructure Category)
•Hong Kong Green Building Council BEAM Plus Award 2020 – Platinum
•The Lighthouse Club Safety Leadership Awards 2016 – Gold (Architect-Consultant Category)
A big red tractor-trailer hauling 6 new bright white electric pickup trucks - Fords I think? Guess I need to take notes if I want to remember details!
I didn't see the flag until we were right next to it, hence this somewhat strange pov/composition, and processing to minimize window reflections, and selective color because sky and tree colors were pretty dull.
This is hand held at 1/25 of a second so not the sharpest focus -- but I like the idea of the two people walking the dog on a foggy night.
I'm not quite sure how to eliminate the green colour around the light. If anyone has any helpful suggestions, I would more than appreciate them...
I minimized the green colour and also the hard edge around the lights. To my eyes it is no longer distracting. Thanks again for the suggestions...

EPIC FAIL !!
Guess what's the most stupid thing I've ever done in 2016 ?
I misread the instruction about price and built this huge set over the month !!
Then in just a few hours before the deadline, I realized that !
So I minimize the set into ~500 pieces, do another photo shooting and manage to resubmit.
Seems I can still work under pressure, what a year ....!!
Though I have to remove the entire senate holding office scene, I just start to like it.

My entry to the Brickset 2016 Star Wars 'What's Missing?' Building Contest
Because of the weather patterns present that day (and much in the coming week too), I wasn't really able to capture an image that I'd wanted with either blue skies or one with clouds to compliment landscape of this national park. So I decided to angle my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward to minimize that in this view and focus more on the hillsides, valleys and draws to my front. This is a view looking to the east while hiking the Rankin Ridge Nature Trail. I later did a conversion to black & white using Silver Efex Pro 2 where I used some color filters to bring out a much richer tonal contrast for the final image.
Because of the image theft by PhotoElite (stock.adobe.com/uk/contributor/206913296/photoelite?load_...), I am removing the CC license I previous had for all my images. I believe in the CC license, but this person, claiming my images as his, has ruined that. If you are a non-profit or wish to use my images in such a capacity, please contact me privately. My original desire remains the same in sharing the images I capture that reflect the natural beauty I've experience traveling this planet.
as her life comes nearer to the end
her eyes have seen many generations.
she has lived through much pain,
some momentary happiness,
but suffered plenty
from love.
she still remembers Enrique
whose heart she could not win.
Memorizing his looks..... his mustache..... his hazel eyes
the way he dismissed her.... made her want him more and more.
She wanted him more than life itself.
She cried as he danced with other women.
She cried when he belittled her.
She cried when he chose her sister instead of her.
She wanted to die.
She would have loved him so much so much forever and ever.
after decades and decades and decades long gone.
Her whole life was centered around ENRIQUE.
He never knew. or may be he did and he minimized it.
And as he got old and not as handsome as he once was she still felt the same.
She wanted him so badly she would have died for him.
A part of her did.
Her hands were always waiting to hold his.
She settled for another man, who never came close to her first and only love...
Enrique....

This is part of my pandemic project. The project was created to minimize the number of people that I would come into contact with and to help keep my sanity. The location is a local university. From what I can tell the vast majority of classes are being held online leaving the campus empty with the exception of a few nursing students and an occasional group of Frisbee golf players.
The project started when my wife and I used the campus to walk the dog in the evening. I began to notice the architecture and interesting light fixtures. I started to return and photograph and soon had a project.
The project is to examine the lights and architecture of the empty Campus at night.

A setting looking to the east while taking in views beyond a nearby tufa formation to a more distant one on Mono Lake. I felt using the nearby formation would help to frame and have more of a focus for the distant tufa tower. I then closed down on the aperture so that I could have more of the complete setting in focus. Focusing on the two formations would also help to minimize the haze and smoke filled skies above from nearby wildfires.
