Millennials in Massachusetts are already demonstrating their civic impact by working at the local, state, and federal levels to create change in their communities. The Institute brought young leaders together to discuss how their generation is defining civic engagement, the value and importance of public service, and what political activism means for up-and-coming thought leaders.

And here is another picture of a power line running through an Indiana mud field in the flatland glacial outwash plain where the Kankakee River first rises. Hills to the west are part of the Valparaiso Moraine, where the Chicago lobe of the big glacier from the last Ice Age came to an end for a while. Stand here twelve or thirteen millennia ago, and everything in front of you would have been mud laid down by the braided streams flowing off the glacier. The glacier itself would have risen along that line of trees you see in the distance and eventually climbed to over a mile high. It would have looked cool. I wish I had a time machine so I could see it.

I post this picture in this spot in the photostream for a couple of reasons. One, I think this is one of the most representative shots of Indiana I've taken for a while. And two, while I may look about 10 photos short to you, if you count the state trooper pictures I have hidden, this is the thousandth picture I've posted in my state of Indiana album. Indiana is only the sixth state to reach this threshold, behind Illinois (where I live), Kentucky (where I grew up), Michigan (where I was born), Colorado (where I vacation all the time), and California (which I've never had any personal relationship with at all). And really, if you think about it, it's absurd that it's taken me this long to post a thousand pictures of Indiana, because I've lived my entire life within a few miles of either end of it, and I've crossed it at least ten times a year for the last 20 years. I really should have gotten here before now.

But here I am, finally, and if you've been following this page for a while, you know what this means. This threshold is traditionally what triggers me breaking all a state's pictures out into individual albums by county, so I'll be ticking the Flickr database people off even more by doing that in the coming week or so. But I made a decision about a year ago when I saw how long it was taking me to get Indiana to this point. The next state in line for this treatment is Arizona, but I've only posted 661 pictures in the Arizona album, and it will probably take me two or three more Arizona trips to post another 339 pictures. That might take six or eight years. After that, there's 625 pictures in the Wisconsin album, and Wisconsin's right next door, so I might get there in a couple of years. But then it's New York with 545 pictures, then Texas, then Louisiana, and so it goes. Flickr would have to stick around another three decades for me to get any of these states over the line. But I like making county albums, so I'm just going to do them all. It will probably take me the rest of this year, and it means I'll post a bunch of colored maps nobody but me cares about, but I'm doing it anyway.
