Gateshead Millennium Bridge - the world's first and only tilting bridge!
Designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects and engineered by Gifford, the bridge takes its place at the end of a line of distinguished bridges across the River Tyne, including the Tyne Bridge and Robert Stephenson's High Level Bridge.
Linking Gateshead with Newcastle via Gateshead Quays (described as one of the best places in Europe by Tony Blair) and Newcastle's Quayside, the bridge not only serves a functional purpose as the River Tyne's only foot and cycle bridge, but its grace and engineering attract people from all over the world.
The Millenium Celebration was a while ago, and I was foolish and young, so I didn't take any pictures and I don't remember everything. But what I do remember was the celebration was really cool, especially the Millenium Village. You could play golf at the Scotland exhibit or ride the theater attraction in Israel. Plus other countries were featured in the artisan craft marketplace, like South Korea.
In 2000 the Coral Princess became the Millenium Queen. She was used as a casino ship based in Thai waters. The charterer failed to pay the bills. The crew, who were not paid, were fed rice & eggs two times a day, and had to sleep on deck because the air-conditioning in the crew areas had been switched off as an economy measure. Berjaya finally stepped in and reclaimed their ship, which was brought to an offshore anchorage near Singapore, where she is seen in this photo. The next trip would be a one-way voyage to a scrapyard at Alang.

The Millenium clock was created to mark the start of the new century and sits in the main hall (reflected in the mirror along with Y.T.) in the Royal Museum, Edinburgh. It was created by, among other artists, the Russian Eduard Bersudsky and portrays "fragments of the story of the millennium, with its disasters, tragedies, but also its human, scientific and artistic achievements." It's a wonderful spectacle to behold when it's working (which is not always, as it seems to break down quite often) - my kids are enthralled by all the intricate moving parts, the music, and the gruesome imagery...

Just a couple of old scans... I may be offline for a while. My computer caught a virus that isn't detected by my antivirus software but it will copy itself onto all attached drives including external hard drives, USB sticks, memory cards, you name it, and mess with them so I can't get my files off the computer. Luckily I didn't plug my camera in since it happened, so it is still clean, but it ruined my external drive when I was trying to update my backups and infected both my computers. ~sigh~ Since the antivirus doesn't detect and clean it, I'm at a loss how to clean the computers or make backups of my files since everything I plug in gets infected, too. I lost the backups I had made since December last year. And here I thought I was doing good with having backups on two computers plus external hard drive. I never expected all three of them to get infected with a new virus that isn't even included in the newest antivirus definitions file.
Picked out of my photo backlog this was taken in early January & shows the Millenium Stadium & Cardiff Central station.
The final seven parts have now been attached thanks to the replacements arriving from LEGO.
