Dalton Mills was once the largest textile mill in the region, employing over 2000 workers. It was built by Joseph Craven in 1869, replacing the original mill which was owned by Rachel Leach in the 1780's.
The mill was named Dalton Mills after the manager employed by Rachel Leach, a man called Dalton.
In its heyday between 1869 and 1877 the mill provided jobs for workers all over Keighley and the Worth Valley.
As the textile industry declined, the fortunes of Dalton Mills changed and up until 2004, it had been virtually empty for almost a decade. John Craven, the great-great grandson of Joseph, who had built the mill, eventually chose to sell Dalton Mills to Magna Holdings, to ensure it’s survival.
Part of the renovation of the Clock Tower has included restarting the landmark clock which has not ticked for 25 years. In the mill's heyday, thousands of workers relied on the clock to get to work on time, but the hands had not moved for a quarter of a century. Last year Magna Holdings repaired the clock, and illuminated the faces, so it can display the time to the whole of Dalton Lane again.

Three Mills Island is London's oldest surviving industrial centre, and there is evidence that there were mills here in the 11th Century.
In the Middle Ages, the Island was acquired by the Abbey of Stratford Langthorne, and the Mills ground corn for bread which was baked in Stratford and sold in the City of London. This continued after the Abbey was dissolved by King Henry VIII in the 1530s, during the Reformation. However by the 17th Century the grain was being used to distil alcohol, and in 1872 the site was acquired by Nicholson's, the Gin Distillers, who continued to use the Mills until the second world war and used the site for storage until the 1970s.
In the 1980s the Island became a centre for independent film production, leading to the creation of 3 Mills Studios, a merger of three companies, in 1990. The Studios are responsible for a fair amount of the UK's film and television output.
House Mill is owned separately, by the River Lea Tidal Mill Trust. The current Mill was built in 1776 and is believed to be the largest remaining tidal mill in the world. It ceased operating in 1941, but the Trust plans to reinstate the water wheels, harnessing the tides to generate all the electricity needs of the building.
The Mill can be visited on certain Sundays.

Phew! Man it has been a long time since I have really taken my camera out. For those of you who don't know, I just recently moved from Maui to Colorado. It has been a couple of weeks since I moved, but I have been so busy taking care of everything that I haven't had a chance to get out and have fun. Luckily, this weekend my girlfriend and I were able to get out for a hike in Rocky Mountain National Park. We had beautiful weather to say the least!
The stone mill arrived at the still house today. Like nearly 100% of our equipment, this impressive piece of machinery was proudly made in America!

Sileby mill cropped photo. This one is quite well balanced and grabs you and looking good.
It has a lot more impact than a nondescript wide angle shot or a general photo of the whole scene.
The thing you really have to avoid is a large area all the same which is usually water or sky in these type of photos.
The person on the bridge was perhaps lucky and helps the photo a lot if you analyze it.
Everyone needs to explore the possibilities of cropping a photo because its the most simple and effective way to improve a photo.
Thats my two pennies worth anyway, I do realise different people like different things.
Unfortunately the banner proclaiming that this former mill will be converted into new flats has been there for at least 4 years.
There's plenty of the heritage of the old mills in the centre of Hebden Bridge, with a lot of them being converted to house little independent shops.
The blue sky was certainly out at lunch time, that's for sure!

One of the oldest building standing in this Province
Absolutely brilliant visitor centre at this place... I spent ages playing with all the interactive features in the exhibition. Highly recommended - even if just for the water-wheel/turbine feature thingie in the basement!

This shows the west facade of the Bell Mill which houses the visitor centre.
When out with Alan (tall guy) yesterday we walked past many waterfalls this is just one on Mill gill on the way to Whitfield gill force.An excellent day out near Askrigg with many falls in a small area.
This is an old 19th Century view from the pond created by a dam downstream. Water power was important to early Michigan settlers and most of the old towns in the area were selected because their locations had rivers and water power.

We rented out this lovely former paper mill for two weeks. It's a very attractive place, complete with its own waterfall.
