Biggest movement across middle part of the country all year. Next night is even better.
Bird migration forecast maps show predicted nocturnal migration 3 hours after local sunset and are updated every 6 hours. Colorado State University and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology currently produce these forecasts.
The beginning of June – with the peak in August – hails the start of the annual gnu migration, as from the Serengeti National Park they enter the Mara reserve in search of pasture and between September, peaking in October, the mighty herd of gnu abandons the desiccated steppe of the Maasai Mara in order to return to their Tanzanian park of origin. This event, dictated by the rainy season, is one of the most spectacular phenomena in nature. The passage of this powerful herd of 1.4 million head, accompanied by zebra as well as predators taking every advantage to hunt, is an absolute must for safari photographers. Spectacular scenes straight from the greatest documentaries.

Il Masai Mara è teatro di uno dei fenomeni più spettacolari della natura, La Grande Migrazione, il leggendario viaggio degli gnu che, guidati dalle piogge tra luglio e agosto lasciano il Serengeti National Park in Tanzania per dirigersi vero i pascoli erbosi del Masai Mara. Tra novembre e gennaio il branco ritorna nel Serengeti creando lo stesso maestoso spettacolo. L’imponente branco di gnu è accompagnato da zebre e animali predatori (leoni, iene e ghepardi) che approfittano di ogni possibilità per cacciare le loro prede e si presenta come una colonna maestosa di animali: il guado dei fiumi, attraversati da correnti e coccodrilli minacciosi crea scenari da set di grandi documentari.

Catkins are small furry creatures which live mainly in trees beside lochs and other areas of still water. Every spring the male catkins en masse choose to migrate to new feeding grounds across the loch. Unfortunately catkins, like their close relatives the lemmings cannot swim and as they have a buoyancy co-efficient of -0.8, the inevitable happens and they sink to the bottom of the loch, providing rich pickings for the pike and perch in the water.
This is the first time I've been lucky enough to photograph these migrations, although I've heard about them from locals for many years.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Somalia supports a Migration Response Centre in Hargeisa that helps Ethiopian migrants on their way to the Arabian peninsula through counselling, medical services and support for their voluntary returns home. The Centre also conducts outreach campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of migration.

Indigo resist work centered around the theme of human migrations past and present on cotton flour sack towels. The diverse shapes suggest individual migrants as they reach their destination (strong contrast) while the memories of their former lives are left behind (fading).

While male and female is relatively balanced when it comes to intra-regional migration, the restrictions on women's migration limit their opportunities outside of the region. This is due to the existing social barriers and the restrictions imposed by the government.

there were 14 immature eagles and 4 mature bald eagles in this migration group on the Haw River this morning! In this photo you can see 10 of the birds.

The visible migration of overwintering birds has calmed down a bit around the local area over the past couple of weeks, although Redwings and Fieldfares continue to pass through in groups of various sizes. Took this just as the sun was coming up on Saturday. I never tire of seeing them, plus looking out for more unusual birds arriving.
As well as the usual birds, the October/November passage also produced several Brambling and my first ever Brent Goose, a rarity for Milton Keynes. I only achieved some very blurred shots of it from a long distance away, but I was over the moon just with them :-)

Under the South Asia Labour Migration Project funded by the European Union, ILO supported in part, the launch of the book Politics of Migration- Indian Emigration in a Globalised World on 18 January 2016. This was followed by a panel discussion on the Evolution of a Diaspora Engagement Strategy.
Invitees included members, Resident Commissioners, relevant Diplomats and missions, former diplomats as well as heads of international organizations.
