Crayfish Migration in New Rochelle NY - June 2012
After a heavy rain, hundreds of crayfish started coming out of Glenwood Lake in New Rochelle, NY for a few days. Not sure where they were headed.
You already know Serengeti Wildebeest Migration is one of 7 Natural Wonders of Africa, because, it’s the longest and largest migration whatsoever. Apart from big five and wildebeest, Serengeti is also popular for Wildebeest Migration.
In one of the most dramatic river crossings of recent years a mad rush of an estimated 30,000 wildebeest hurl themselves into the Mara River...in a desperate race (in the the wrong direction!) towards lush grazing to the south of the river.
The new fish migration camera at Vattentorget. No live action during my most recent visit. The date on this photo/video says November 2024. Placed in the old Nils Ericson sluice at Norra slusskajen, it captures fish migrating between Saltsjön and Mälaren. In the background they are working on a new bridge for cyclists. All part of the gigantic Slussen project.

Kearfott-Wood House in the Town of Amherst
History from the AppomattoxHistoricDistrict Facebook Page album on Amherst County:
"The Amherst County Museum is currently located in a Georgian Revival home built in 1907. It was built by a local pharmacist, Mr. Kearfott, who had his business at the same location as the former Amherst Pharmacy on Main Street. Mr. Kearfott and his family lived in the brick house until 1920.
"Mr. Wade Wood, a grocer of sixty years in the town of Amherst, purchased the property in 1922. His two daughters grew up here, and the house was the scene of many community activities. Of particular note were Mr. Wood's Sunday croquet games. When he passed away in 1960, his wife, Mrs. Molly Wood, sold the property to the bank next door, then Farmers & Merchants Bank, but she continued to live in the house until her death in 1977. The Museum purchased the property in 1988."

Careful not to startle this herd of migrating oklahoma hay bales, I snuck close enough to capture this image of them in their natural habitat.
During what is almost certainly the world's greatest wildlife spectacle thousands of wildebeest hurl themselves down a cliff-face into the Mara River. (In the 40 minutes that this frantic crossing took only 6 animals died).
The great herds of wildebeest gather for the Masai Mara migration - perhaps the world's greatest wildlife spectacle.
Gain a better understanding of the variety of migratory patterns that can result from complex crises; to examine the usefulness of migration policy tools in addressing crises.
