Furry Migration 2017 is a furry convention held in Minneapolis, Minnesota from August 25-27, 2017 at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis
Taken in the Blackstone valley, Tombstone Park, Yukon The Porcupine Caribou are a large migratory herd using Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the 1002 Lands in Alaska for calving and summer grounds, then moving into Yukon for the fall rut(mating season) and winter pasturage. Numbers were well over 200,000 animals a few years ago but pressure in the herd including climate change, threats to the calving grounds and predation by animals and humans has droppped numbers to between 75 and 90 thousand.Measures to help improve herd health include the management by the Porcupine caribou management Board(an international group including conservation from Alaska, Yukon and Northwest Territories.
Lives of the Aboriginal peoples in these areas have been tied to this herd for over 10,000 years. Barren ground caribou are smaller than their woodland brothers and cover several thousand kilometers every year during the two migrations.
Recruitment fees are unjust. Workers should not pay in order to get decent work. All workers have the right to decent work whether they stay in their home countries or work abroad.

For the last couple of times there have been small flocks of migrating Pine Siskin that try to hook a ride on the whale watch boat. Some people were very willing to provide a resting perch, others are startled and horrified, shooing them off like mosquitos. But .... it was neat to watch the willing ones encourage the others (simply through their enjoyment) to be calm and welcoming.
March butterflies are one of the few species of butterflies that migrate. In September and October monarchs in central and eastern U.S. make their way south to overwinter in the Gulf States and remote mountain valleys of south central Mexico, traveling up to 2,000 miles. They spend the winter massed on trees in the Gulf States and Mexico. One wintering site may attract millions of butterflies. In March the monarchs begin to return North.

The Snow Geese migration is in full swing from southern to mid-state Illinois. This image is about one tenth of a group at the Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge on the Illinois River near Grafton. Anyone interested in seeing this amazing spectacle, now is the time. With the rain & warmer weather, ice will melt at Emiquon National Wildlife Refuge near Havana. This is the nearest great place to see the migration for us here in Central Illinois. The Snow Geese rarely follow the Illinois River any farther north in these great numbers.

Every morning elephants migrate from the Chobe River floodplain to the teak forest in Chobe National Park, Botswana.

High above the Maasai Mara National Reserve in southern Kenya, we spotted this herd of wildebeest heading southward to Tanzania's Serengeti national park. As it was late October, we suspected that this herd was pretty much the remainder of the massive numbers of beests that take part in the great migration.
