Mari and I capped off an amazing daytrip to Hakone with a visit to Tokyo Midtown to see this year's holiday light display. I was told this one was "kind of normal", but it was still more impressive than any display I can remember seeing at home in Vancouver! It's also much better to see in person... I really haven't done the display justice with this bokeh'd image of the lights! And I also need to send out a big thanks to Megu and Hiro for a really fun day exploring Hakone! The last golden rays of sunset are reflected off the the lower section of buildings in midtown Manhattan as viewed from the NJ side of the Hudson River

I never posted this shot and I forgot about it until I passed this cop on the street last night. So I had to dig it up !
The Midtown Greenway is a 5.7-mile (9.2 km) rail trail in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is considered under segregated cycle facilities.
Used both recreationally and for commuting, the partially below-grade Greenway runs east-west about one block north of Lake Street. It provides cyclists, inline skaters, runners and pedestrians a virtually automobile-free route across the city.

No digital enhancement in this sunrise- not even a rectification of the slight tilt (is there?). I am sure that I could jazz this up like the water lines photo but I chose to share that even without modification, a postcard photo can be obtained. The requirements:
1. Select the right weather and time. NYC sun is rare so choose a day where the forecast is NOT wet. Know when the sun rises (this day it was 7:19AM). Study your location- this part of Manhattan faces the east so the reflections of the buildings on the water are LONGEST if the sun is almost perpendicular. To be at 90 degrees, it has to be sunrise. Beyond that, the sun rises until shadows/reflections will shrink. (Which reminds me I should try shooting the sunset seen at the west side of Manhattan hmmm...)
2. Choose your location. I want a view of both the UN and Chrysler buildings so I checked the map first and saw a park directly across these landmarks: the Gantry Park State Plaza. Convincing my family to wake up early and join me in the photoshoot is a different story. Don't worry about safety even if it's early in the day, the police are present everywhere! I am not sure though if you get the same peace in a workday as the park is across a school. I think the nearest subway station is Jackson-Vernon.
3. Study your camera. After sometime, I already know that my pulse shakes so I have to shoot this scene at acceptable light so that I can use a low ISO (100) but still at fast shutter speed (1/100). I selected f/5.6 and focused on the UN buidling which gave me the contrast point.
