A large 13th Century gothic castle, first mentioned in 1350, which was destroyed in Bohemian-Hungarian wars in the 15th Century. It was a quite large castle complex with triple configuration - a large and long bailey, three main trechnes, a midsection and a separate core. The disposition is still well visible, a path follows the first trench around the bailey, through the second and third trench up to the core. Two drawbridges isolated the core, which was otherwise surrounded by inaccessible steep rocks. It´s well walkable and very popular by tourists.
When a male wants to attract a female he does what is known as infrasound mating call. This activity involves bellowing in a low frequency call, that is inaudible to humans. With their head and tail raised over the water surface while their midsection is partially submerged, the water over their backs shoots up like a fountain display from the vibrations produced from the low frequency bellow. This is known as the "Water Dance of the Caiman". Our guide said that they only do this "water dance" call once a day. We were lucky to see it three times...all early in the morning.

This snake had eaten fairly recently. Its midsection was distended - you can see white areas where the scales are stretched apart.
One section of new main sits in the bottom of the trench atop a layer of gravel. Plug in the bottom end keeps debris from entering. Elbow at top end makes the initial turn that will take the water main up the hill.
Please note the lateral line that crosses the midsection of the new main. Maneuvering the latter into place required some elaborate choreography.

Exterior Decoration
The outer walls of the Elizabeth Tower feature decorative stonework, including carved orbs, crowns, crosses, and gargoyles.

The Clock Dials
The tower’s four clock dials face the four points of the compass. The north dial faces Portcullis House, the east the River Thames. The south dial looks over the rest of the Palace of Westminster and the west dial faces Parliament Square.
The ornate decoration on the Elizabeth Tower’s upper floors owes much to Augustus Welby Pugin’s influence on the main architect, Sir Charles Barry. The two architects collaborated successfully on the Palace of Westminster’s neo-Gothic style which is displayed to great effect on the clock dials.
Each dial is 7m in diameter and is made from cast iron. Each dial contains 312 separate pieces of pot opal glass, a type of glass with an opaque finish.
The hour figure of four o’clock is shown by the Roman numeral IV, rather than IIII, as is more commonly used on clock dials.
Under each clock dial there is a Latin inscription carved in stone: “Domine Salvam fac Reginam nostrum Victoriam primam” which means “O Lord, save our Queen Victoria the First.”
At 9am on August 11, 2007, a team of specialist technicians abseiled down the south clock dial, to spend the day cleaning and repairing the clock dials. This essential work takes place once every five years.
