First day of classes. I had like an hour of Communications and then I'm supposed to have 3D Design until 1:50, but being add/drop week, the teacher just let us out after she took attendance.
My place during the event. One monitor to control the Mac Pro that runs Resolume Arena. Resolume was set up with 7 layers:
A. 3 data layers with the quartz composer scripts and prepared data visualizations
B. 1 colorize layer to change the hue of the layers underneath to the colors of the organization
B. 3 ambient video layers prepared with easygoing backgrounds
The data visualizations were based on:
- data the visitors provided when they registered (age, sex, education, travel distance, etc.)
- data related to the topic that was discussed during the event
- data from the province of Overijssel
Everything was controlled with a Korg Nanokontrol midicontroller.
A MacBook Air was there to keep an eye on the tweets. On the left you can see the montior with the alternate videochannel of the mainstage screen. There were to outputs to the mainstage:
1. one of the outputs of Resolume Arena
2. a laptop on stage with the presentations of the speakers
Customized M-Audio (ex.Evolution) UC-33e midi controller.
Added LEDs of different colours. Faster finding the right knob makes working with the unit & performing easier.
Possible to change LED brightness.
wow, time sure does fly when I'm writing music. somehow it went from 5PM to 4 AM way too quickly lol.
I totally should be in bed. Oops

Trigger drum samples on the iPad with the Teensy Arduino compatible. The Teensy looks just like a midi device to the iOS and is powered by the iPad. When tapped, the piezo device creates a small current that is sensed by the Teensy and the sketch reads that and sends a midi note (with velocity).
The AirPiano is an innovative musical interface which allows playing and controlling software instruments simply by moving hands in the air.
Above the AirPiano is a virtual matrix of keys and faders, each assigned with MIDI messages and ready to be triggered. The length of a triggered note is equivalent to the time a hand
is placed on the corresponding virtual key.
This is also confirmed by LED feedback.
The AirPiano Software allows easy setup, loading/saving presets and transposing notes.
The AirPiano is still in its prototype phase and its concept of a virtual matrix might eventually be used for other applications and purposes.
The AirPiano concept is filled as a Provisional U.S. Patent Application (Number: 60/989,986).
Specifications: Polyphonic, MIDI protocol,
Up to 24 keys / 8 faders, USB connectivity
Finally finished our open source midi controller project. stu-fisher.org/eight_kit.

Fatar uses an iPad app to extend the control surface of their MIDI master keyboard studiologic acuna 88.
Instead of building physical controls like drum pads into the keyboard's case, they implemented them in software, and you play the pads on the iPad's screen. Same goes for other control elements like sliders, pots, etc.
The problem in this specific case is that, what works just fine when you lay the iPad on your lap, feels pretty awkward when used at the upright angle shown in the photo.
It's tiring for your neck and shoulder muscles, and the friction between finger and touch screen feels decidedly weird.
The overall layout of the app looks pretty clean and intuitive, so it's good to see that there is ample space to place the iPad on the keyboard's top-shell in a flat position. Makes room for notes, too, which I do prefer to prop up vertically.
My article "iPads Rock Musikmesse 2011" at The Mac Observer has more on music apps for iPad.

Arduino Teensy with Adafruit capacitive touch to use spoons as a MIDI keyboard. Joysticks for pitchbend and octave. Unlike some devices this requires only that you touch the spoon. It's polyphonic (plays chords) as well. Works with iPhone, iPad, Mac, PC.
It's powered by usb, so the iPad powers it! You just plug in and it's seen as a midi keyboard.

My friend Jonnie made me these two oak sides (to replace the broken plastic ones) for my MS20 LC controller.
we made a few limited edition ohm64's for halloween. This one has a black aluminum faceplate and an orange dye.
