All for the small sum of $179.00

Turned out I already had one, but I was using it to read MicroSD cards since that's what the original use is. I got this one with a cheap MicroSD card from Ebay so I can't think that they cost $179.00 a pop.

Just a little dusty :|

After so many hopes from the extreme video enthusiasts around the world, Dji finally announced his new Osmo Action camera, which looks like an absolute hit this summer.

The company's first action camera features a unique "Three-Glass Aspherical Lens" design that guarantees an elegant look and durability of the hull.

Osmo Action hopes to win the consumers with the availability of two displays. On the back, there is a 2.25 "touch panel for interface management and framing, and a 1.4" display is available on the front, which is convenient for capturing sweeps or deposits. The gadget is waterproof and shock-resistant and can withstand a drop of 1.5 meters and immersion at a depth of up to 11 meters without an extra case. There is also the option of adding additional filters to the lens - such as ND for shooting in high ambient light conditions.

Oѕmо Action supports up to 4K60 HDR video recording, captures slower video at 1080p240, uses DJS RockSteady electronic image stabilization (EIS) and can also operate in delay and hyperlapse mode. Pictures can be shot at up to 12MP resolution in raw or JPG format, and when you rotate the camera to 90 °, it will automatically switch to portrait mode.

All photos and videos are recorded on a microSD card in a slot that supports microSD / SDHC / SDXC cards with a minimum write speed of 30 Mb / s and a maximum capacity of 256 GB.

Osmo Action can be managed via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi from iOS or Android using the DJI Mimo application.

Nokia Care

This lovely little shield is the best way to add a small, colorful and bright display to any project. We took our popular 1.8" TFT breakout board and remixed it into an Arduino shield complete with microSD card slot and a 5-way joystick navigation switch (with a nice plastic knob)! Since the display uses only 4 pins to communicate and has its own pixel-addressable frame buffer, it can be used easily to add a display & interface without exhausting the memory or pins.

The 1.8" display has 128x160 color pixels. Unlike the low cost "Nokia 6110" and similar LCD displays, which are CSTN type and thus have poor color and slow refresh, this display is a true TFT! The TFT driver (ST7735R) can display full 18-bit color (262,144 shades!). And the LCD will always come with the same driver chip so there's no worries that your code will not work from one to the other.

The shield has the TFT display soldered on (it uses a delicate flex-circuit connector) as well as a ultra-low-dropout 3.3V regulator and a 3/5V level shifter so its safe to use with 5V Arduinos. We also had some space left over so we placed a microSD card holder (so you can easily load full color bitmaps from a FAT16/FAT32 formatted microSD card) and a 5-way navigation switch (left, right, up, down, select).

I had another day where I couldn't decide what to profile, however

this time I noticed a theme. Aha! You get a bunch of loosely related

nifty things.

(1)

Apps 4 Africa:

apps4africa.org/

Crowdsourcing development of mobile applications for promoting the

public good in Kenya.

In their words:

"Apps 4 Africa challenges local technologists to develop tools on a

variety of platforms that build on the needs of citizens or on open

data sets relevant to the East Africa region.

The contest runs July 1st- August 31st. Winners will receive a small

bit of fame and fortune — cash, gadgets, chances to improve your

technical skills and the opportunity to hob nob with our judges panel

of tech luminaries and civil society leaders at an awards ceremony in

September."

Detroit Medical Center (DMC) Emergency Room Currrent Wait Times:

www.dmc.org/ERwait/

OR

www.dmc.org/

It seems so obvious and simple — Emergency Room Wait Times by cell

phone and mobile app. Why don't all the hospitals do this? Oh, right,

because most of them can't say they have a 9 minute wait, or even a

half hour wait.

In their words:

"Visit this page in iTunes to get the FREE DMC ER Wait time app on

your iPhone or iTouch,a nd you'll always have the most current

information on DMC ER wait times at your fingertips, as well as a

specail mapping function to show you how to get to the DMC from any

location."

"You can text "ER" to 42660 to get the current ER wait times by a

quick reply text."

(3)

Grassroots Mapping:

grassrootsmapping.org/

OR

wiki.grassrootsmapping.org/show/GrassrootsMappingGulfCoas...

Crowdsourcing again, but mobile this time means by foot, not by phone.

This time they are having real folk wander around the oil spill area

with balloons, kites, and similar low-cost items and report back data

about the severity and spread of the BP Gulf Coast oil spill. They

have tip sheets on how to set up your own aerial photo shoot, even

with a camera phone! The idea is that this may be a model for crisis

response in the future. This all gets piped into spreadsheets, a

backend data collection, and ultimately to a Google Maps overlay.

Balloon Aerial Photography:

wiki.grassrootsmapping.org/wiki/show/BalloonAerialPhotogr...

In their words:

"We’re not trying to duplicate the satellite imagery or the flyover

data (though we’re helping to coordinate some of the flyovers and

trying to make sure the data is publicly accessible). We believe it’s

possible for citizens to use balloons, kites, and other simple and

inexpensive tools to produce their own documentation of the spill… and

that such imagery will be essential for environmental and legal

reasons in coming years."

Ben Nanonote:

sharism.cc/

Today at the A2B3 lunch, I think it was Steve who was passing around a

Nanonote and joking about carrying a portable Linux box in his pocket.

This is such a totally geek thing to do that the table was riveted. He

passed it around, and I actually held it in my hands and cringed at

some of the non-linux commands folks had entered while it was

wandering. I don't know enough Linux to make good use of it, but I

know enough to want one anyway. The very idea of a $99 code

development box that is about the size of the early iPods is ...

seductive in its own way.

In their words:

"The 本 version of NanoNote is an ultra small form factor computing

device. The device sports a 336 MHz processor, 2GB of flash memory,

microSD slot, head phone jack, USB device and 850mAh Li-ion battery.

It boots Linux out of the box and also boots over USB. It’s targeted

squarely at developers who see the promise of open hardware and want

to roll their own end user experience. It’s the perfect companion for

open content; we envision developers turning the device into a music

or video player for Ogg or an offline Wikipedia or MIT OpenCourseWare

appliance. Or you can simply amaze your friends by creating an ultra

small handheld notebook computer. You choose the distribution. The 本

Nanonote is the first in a line of products that will see the addition

of other hardware capabilities. Get your NanoNote and start a

Nanoproject today. Or join one of the existing projects in our

developer community"

Sony Xperia Z2 Sony Xperia Z3 Peso 163 gr 154 gr Largo 146,8 mm 146,5 mm Ancho 73,3 mm 72,4 mm Grosor 8,2 mm 7,5 mm

Sony Xperia Z3, precio y disponibilidad

Heart rate monitor

Fingerprint scanner

Additional sensors: humidity sensor, temperature sensor

The screen grew up only a bit and it kept the 1080p resolution rather than going to QHD.

The camera does, however, record UHD video - Samsung's initial information was for 1080p, but we can now confirm it's really 4K UHD (2160p).

Samsung does maintain the clockspeed advantage with a rare Snapdragon 800 chipset and while the fingerprint scanner was no surprise, the heart rate monitor certainly is.

TouchWiz was a bit of a surprise too. We got pumped up for a brand new flat version of Samsung's custom UI, but the reality is closer to what we saw on the new Galaxy Pro tablets.

Grassroots Mapping:
