El veterano fabricante de cámaras fotográficas Polaroid, sigue adaptándose a la época actual en la que vivimos, y sí semanas atrás lanzó su propuesta de cámara de acción para competir con el popular fabricante de cámaras de acción GoPro, ahora nos encontramos con otro interesante lanzamiento, el cual fue presentado ayer martes 26. Se trata de Socialmatic (polaroid.com/socialmatic), un dispositivo que combina tradición y modernidad, ya que permite la captura de imágenes para su impresión fotográfica y para ser compartida a través de las redes sociales. La presentación se ha realizado en PhotoImage, la mayor feria de la fotografía y la imagen comercial de América Latina, que se sigue celebrando hasta mañana en Sao Paulo, según informa la publicación Abril.
Socialmatic es un dispositivo que cuenta con dos cámaras, la principal, de 14 MP, y la secundaria, que está situada en la parte posterior, con 2 MP. El sistema que emplea este dispositivo es una modificación del sistema Android, siendo compatible con cualquier aplicación de imágenes disponible en Google Play. Cuenta además con GPS, Bluetooth y WiFi, además de 4 GB de almacenamiento y ranura para insertar tarjetas microSD. La interacción se realizará a través de su pantalla táctil LCD de 4,5 pulgadas.
Un aspecto a destacar es que la aplicación de la cámara cuenta con filtros que se pueden incorporar a las propias fotografías, como en Instagram. Otro aspecto a destacar es que cada dispositivo contará con un código QR único, el cual se incorporará en las imágenes capturadas a modo de marca de agua, con la idea de identificar a cada fotógrafo y servir de protección en caso de robo de contenidos.
Socialmatic permitirá tanto la impresión de las imágenes capturadas, usando la tecnología de papel Zink, además de posibilitar guardar las fotografías en la memoria digital. Se espera que esté disponible en el mercado brasileño al precio de 1.699 reales (unos 500 euros) a partir de principios de octubre de este año.

The tech pundits said this is too heavy and carried no innovation from the last generation (Lumia 900). I don't feel this is heavy comparing to my Droid Bionic and it is really beautiful. Hot on the heels of the Nokia 2 announcement, HMD Global, the Finnish company behind Nokia's comeback into the smartphone game has launched a 3GB RAM variant of the Nokia 5. The Nokia 5, which was announced a few months ago, slots in between the Nokia 3 (which sells for Rs 9,499) and the Nokia 6 (which is available for Rs 14,999) in Nokia's lineup.
The Nokia 5 was launched in August for Rs 12,499 with just 2GB of RAM - a move which disappointed the public and Nokia loyalists alike. To remedy the same, HMD Global has added an extra gigabyte of RAM to the Nokia 5. Apart from the 3GB of RAM, the new variant is identical to the previous model in every which way.
Specifications:-
The Nokia 5 is made out of single piece of aluminium and looks remarkably similar to the company's flagship Nokia 8 - from the tapered edges, to the camera lens and LED flash placement and curved the antenna lines. It comes with a fingerprint sensor up front (embedded in the capacitive home button) and a 5.2-inch 720p HD display which is covered with Gorilla Glass 3 for protection against nicks and scratches.
The Nokia 5 is powered by the Snapdragon 430 processor paired with 3GB of RAM (the cheaper variant having 2GB of RAM), the Adreno 505 GPU and a 3,000mAh battery. Additionally, it comes with 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded via a microSD card (of up to 128GB).
Just like the rest of the Nokia Android smartphone line-up, the Nokia 5 runs on a pure and untouched build of Android 7.1.1 Nougat without any unneeded gimmicks, bloat or overlays. HMD Global has already confirmed that the smartphone will be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo very soon.
On the imaging front, the Nokia 5 comes with a 13MP rear camera with phase detection autofocus, a dual-LED flash and an aperture of f/2.0. On the front, there is an 8MP sensor with an aperture of f/2.0.

Unlike the 2GB RAM variant, which is only available via offline retail stores, the 3GB RAM variant is set to go on sale via e-commerce giant Flipkart from 12AM tonight for Rs 13,499. The smartphone will also be available from select retail outlets from November 14 onward. It is available in two colour options - Matte Black and Tempered Blue.

Stuart Poulton was kind enough to send me a prototype PCB for the MAX1284, an ATmega1284P & WIZ820io based internet gateway that he and Andrew Lindsay are developing. It has support for the WIZ820io ethernet module, two XBee compatible devices, an RFM12B, MicroSD reader and an RTC (I've only fitted the WIZ820io and an RFM12B in the above picture).
Looks like this will be a great little board for internet gateway projects.

As expected, Motorola has launched its latest flagship – the Moto X Style in India. The company has priced 16GB variant of this smartphone at INR 29,999, while the 32GB variant gets a price tag of INR 31,999. Motorola has officially revealed that the handset will be exclusively available through Flipkart. With no words on shipping details, the handset will be available to pre-order from 15th October.
The highlight of the Moto X Style is its better and impressive screen-to-body ratio i.e. 76% comparing to iPhone 6 Plus’s 68% and Samsung Galaxy S6’s 71%. The Moto X Style comes with a 3000 mAh battery which is backed by TurboCharger 25 technology allowing users to charge the battery from 0-34% in just 15 minutes. For comparison, Samsung’s Galaxy S6’s fast charging technology lets users charge the battery from 0-26% in 15 minutes.

Posting rides from Garmin Edge to Strava, without a PC. Equipment:

Yes, it might be possible to plug the Garmin directly into the phone, but then the phone would be charging the Garmin, and that would kill the phone battery pretty quickly.
NB: The Garmin must be configured to save rides on the MicroSD card, not in the internal memory (as is the default).
With the Edge 810 this may all be unnecessary - if it allows wireless access to the track files you don't have to bother with cables. I don't know if it that works, though.
This equipment of course also allows me to download OpenStreepMap maps on the phone, and put them on the MicroSD card so the Garmin can use them, all without a PC.

One of two view (sets) of the Gumstick video camera I picked up off of Ebay. Mine was about $15 US without memory. I had a 512MB MicroSD card lying around, so in it went. I have plans to pick up a 4GB MicroSD card the next time I go grocery shopping. So for less than $30, I've got a 720x480 video camera that'll record for a couple of hours. Not bad!
Mine came without a manual, but it looks like most of these are basically the same. I've marked the controls I've figured out.
You can see the overall size of the thing in this shot. The one face that's not shown is the bottom, where the mini-USB port is.
It's not much bigger than the AA battery in the frame, and weighs considerably less. The case can be removed after taking out eight screws, four per side. The inside is a single circuit board with the switches, LEDs, and processor on one side, and the camera, charge circuitry, and battery on the other.
The plan is to (ab)use this on my KAP rig, on my pole, under my car, on an arrow (come ON! It'll be COOL!), dropping it from a high height, and anything else that just seems like a fun idea.

Micromax on Monday launched the Canvas Infinity Pro as its new 18:9 display featuring model in India. The Micromax Canvas Infinity Pro with a price tag of Rs. 13,999 will be exclusively available on Flipkart starting Wednesday, December 6 midnight. In August, the Indian vendor ventured into the market of bezel-less smartphones with the Canvas Infinity that was launched at Rs. 9,999. The Micromax Canvas Infinity Pro features a 5.7-inch Full Vision display with HD (720x1440 pixels) resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. The display panel is also claimed to have 450 nits of brightness. Under the hood, the smartphone has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC, paired with 4GB of DDR3 RAM and 64GB onboard storage. There is a microSD card slot to offer storage expansion (up to 128GB). Micromax has provided a 16-megapixel camera sensor on the rear of the Canvas Infinity Pro along with an LED flash, while its front panel includes two camera sensors with 20-megapixel and 8-megapixel resolution. The smartphone also comes preloaded with features such as portrait mode, face beauty mode, auto scene detection, face gallery, and tale album. Additionally, there is a Super Pixel feature that combines multiple images to provide users with a higher resolution image.

On other side are 32GB microSDHC UHS-I Cards from Walgreens. They have no markings of the brand, unlike their SDHC and SDXC Cards.
Up and out early with Bonny as usual this morning. I knew that we'd get wet as it was raining when we left. The forecast was for rain all day so there was no weather window to pick my time. As it turned out it wasn't too bad and I had the right outdoor kit on as well.
Back home and after breakfast I drove Mrs P to the bus stop for her to get to Worcester for her volunteering job. She would normally have gone to The Firs (Elgar's birthplace museum) but they are closed for a few weeks in November.
Once home I did a bit more Clerk work (reporting fly tipping) and a few emails. After this I tackled the video conversion project once again. I still couldn't get the USB drive to show any files no matter what format or device I used. The USB stick that I ordered hadn't arrived so I went down another path. This time I used a microSD card. I formatted it in the device and recorded a sample video. I put the microSD card in the Mac and it didn't like it at all! However, I do have a Windows 11 virtual machine running on Parallels on the Mac. I then allocated the microSd card to the virtual PC and I had success! Its wasn't recognised immediately but one click and it came alive. The video file was there. Phew!
I transferred the file to my Mac and then into my video editing programme. It all seemed to work fine, so a workflow is now established. I then recorded the whole of one tape on to the microSD card. 50 minutes takes up about 800Mb of space, so there is plenty of room for converting the other tapes. The contents of this one went back 20 odd years and includes some scenes when I took my late Father-in-Law to the Normandy beaches. There were also a couple of Christmases. I didn't have grey hair in those days!!
